I made this thread because I've looked everywhere for something significant with its homebrew and found nothing of significance. You can upload some Wii and Wii U shop retro titles to boot from the main screen but nothing at all for things like Gamecube emulation or hard upscale for Wii games.

I personally bought a Wii U about a year ago for softmod purposes. I use it as an emulation machine, retroarch on it and the gamepad is super comfy. The softmod requires buying a DS game from the e-shop (I think its $7, can't remember) and from there you can use it for anything.

Of course you can also use it for VC games but Nintendo emulators are pretty shitty. Overall, for $100 bought it second-hand from a friend is not a bad price to pay for having a Nintendo machine that can play any Nintendo console barring the N64, unless you want to settle for shitty N64 emulation. The Wii U library is pretty bare-bones (I'd say about 30-ish games that are worth it), most of them got ported to the Switch which got hacked and is in the infancy of piracy/homebrew.

Personally, I have no reason to own a Switch since CFW/homebrew is nowhere near as fleshed out as the Wii U Scene, and the Switch is a multiplat/port machine except for Splatoon 2 and Mario Odyssey. Its a step up from the Wii in terms of using it as a retro-emulation box, with HD capabilities.

The Wii U is fully cracked open. You didn't look anywhere. We use to have a general but it stopped because the console is such a flaming pile of shit that no one cares about.

Yeah, I have coldboot haxchi on mine. The CFW auto-boots meaning I don't have to hold any button or configuration of buttons to get into CFW. Theres a black screen that adds a second or two to boot-up.

Homebrew as far as the Wii U is pretty bad compared to something like the Wii, but, piracy is pretty easy.

I think there's a port of Retroarch to the Wii U specifically which is functionally better than the Wii version of Retroarch

I'd say that Mario Kart 8, Bayo 2, Tropical Dong, W101, Pikmin 3 and BotW justify the purchase if you buy used, which is about $180 on gamestop, and load Haxchi or Mocha on it to pirate games. Tallying up buying each of those games used, it comes up to

Reminder that you can still download Wii U titles from Nintendo's CDN using USB Helper. Wii U games have barely any good torrents so archive everything.
