I do feel it's often a little bit easier on the riddles, although I'll have to replay the original sometime to find out if that's really true or not. There's a lot of ways of cheesing mid and sometimes even ankh bosses, though. Their behavior is often influenced by your position, meaning you can get some of them into easy loops. Ratatoskr is a big offender in that regard, Surtr to some extent, the worm boss in Hall of Malice, the hanging lady, birdbitch in ancient chaos, and probably a few more I forgot.

Replaying on normal I think has given me an idea of why the lategame bosses are so easy, I'm pretty sure there's no health or damage boost on the bosses on hard mode. Instead of adjusting damage numbers they change the attack patterns. I've only fought Fafnir so far, but in normal mode he only starts firing needles at you in his final phase even though in hard mode it happens all the time, and the meteor pattern is easier on normal as well. Normal enemies have different attacks too, the skeletons don't throw bones at you on normal and the projectile attacks from the enemies move more slowly.
>>15272578
>I do feel it's often a little bit easier on the riddles, although I'll have to replay the original sometime to find out if that's really true or not.
I feel the same way, but the reason I'm not convinced is just thinking back to the release of the remake. I'd say it's a pretty widespread opinion that the remake was easier, mostly because people who'd played the original already knew what they were doing by the time they played the remake. As someone who played the remake first, I personally found the original to be easier. Even though LM2 is technically new content, once you've acclimated yourself to Nigoro's internal logic there's no way it could give you as much trouble as the first game did. My prediction would be that someone who decided to play LM2 first for whatever reason would go back and think LM1 was easier.
I think I'd say objectively there's no puzzle as difficult as the Mantra puzzle in LM1, and the rare moments of moon logic like the Mario pipes are notably absent in LM2, but I still think the average LM2 riddle is as hard as the average LM1 riddle.

7c0219 No.15273507
I'm a bit disappointed especially when I started to play the remake again after almost finishing this one.
One of the first things I noticed is how much more damage enemy soak right from the start. In the first one the whip is a lot faster right from the beginning and most starting enemies die in one hit. I don't remember the original having such annoying spike and enemy placement either. I felt like I spent a lot more time killing while backtracking than I did in the first one.
Bosses on the other hand were much more challenging, even without considering ankh checkpoints.
I guess that's hardly a spoiler to talk about but did anyone else think miracle.exe is locked behind too many items? I had to use a lot of key fairies before I even was able to get it. I don't really remember how late you got it in the first one but it was really annoying to have to go through that fairy spawning all the time
I'm gonna gonna have to play through the first one again to figure out if puzzles are more ordinary or I just got used to the way they work.
Soundtrack seems like a huge letdown after going back to the first. There's barely anything catchy. I actually remembered the first one to be a lot worse but listening to it again it mostly comes down to both the original and remake having some weak instrumentation, while being fantastic otherwise.
b150ec No.15273550
Someone help me figure out the routing a little, is there a way around the Fafnir bottleneck at the beginning? I'm pretty sure you're forced to fight him first no matter what, before you do anything else. You can't enter the gate on the top left until you either get the earth spears or the rolling shurikens, you can't enter the ladder on the bottom left until you get the first sigil (which is locked behind the soul gate), and you can't enter the gate on the top right until you get the second sigil and the claw. That just leaves the entrance to Icefire Treetops at the top, which I don't think leads to anything useful at the start.
>>15273507
> I felt like I spent a lot more time killing while backtracking than I did in the first one.
Really? I felt the other way, I thought the original had more travel time and that's one of the reasons I liked the general world design better, I liked that they split the difference between fast travel and traditional backtracking by making it so that only half of the grail tablets could be warped to for the first half of the game. God knows why they pretended to do the same thing in LM2 with the black Holy Grail tablets when the item that lets you warp to them is literally three screens away from the first black tablet you see.
>I guess that's hardly a spoiler to talk about but did anyone else think miracle.exe is locked behind too many items?

I think the art style of the original really helps make everything more readable. Maybe there weren't that many puzzles depending on visibility, but I thought it helped in general with focusing on what's important and being more precise with the platforming.
Talking about visuals the new one goes in the opposite direction again. There's a lot more contrast on each layer and less between layers itself. Just see for yourself.

Now that I think about it there probably isn't. I actually went to the Icefire Treetops at first, but that was definitely not worth it, and took me some lives with the double lava.
In the first you could even grail and reader before entering 2 other areas.

It probably had. I'm talking specifically about the amount of enemies you meet regardless of duration. Oh, right, yes, the enemy density on Hard in LM2 is completely unreasonable, there are at least a dozen enemies on every screen and they're very spongy by the endgame. That's one of the reasons I'm replaying on normal, I want to see what the enemy escalation is supposed to be like.
As to your comment on the spikes earlier, that was my experience as well, and I think the culprit is the new jumping controls. Since you can change direction in midair they probably felt more comfortable sticking spikes and enemies in inconvenient places, since you could reflexively avoid them. The first thing I did after beating LM2 was play the demo again, and I think it really cemented in my mind how much better the old jumping controls were.
>I think the art style of the original really helps make everything more readable.
Yeah, maybe, although even outside of the legibility of stage elements the riddle wording was occasionally more straightforward and some altered puzzles were easier to deal with. I'm not really complaining, the original LM1 is still my favorite of the three.
>>15273666
Shrine of the Frost Giants was my next port of call for the second sigil, yeah, that and the Djed Pillar. It does, but I don't believe you can get the second sigil from there. You'd have to fall from the screen above that snow drift to get enough momentum to fall through, and you can only access that screen from the Annwfn entrance. Maybe I'm wrong, try it out, but I don't think it would work.

Okay, so I did Yggdrasil, then through the DF and got the sigil, entered Valhalla and solved most of it for the software, haven't slain Vritra yet. Went to Annwfn for Power Glove, and I'm going to mess around a bunch now.
I would think that slaying Vritra is important to get Beherit so you can get the Feather (though we should probably assume they'll remove it for sure even though they said they'd remove that break). Gonna try backdooring the Frost Giants

Oh hey I figured out something important.
If you do the Frost Giant backdoor and get the Rapier and second/third sigil, then even if you enter IB from the ice side of treetops, you still can't get in. But, you could potentially get the Moon mantra very early and the rapier gets you the dino statue

It seems like that was always going to be the intention for the map design, so who knows why they chose to do that for the branches, other than just trying to make the map match Yggdrasil mythologically. You run into similar problems while trying to map out the larger connections of LM1 as well, but it only really gets fucked up the further you go below the surface, which I thought was intentional.

For the cog are you just having trouble getting to where this is? Somebody gave a hint earlier in the thread that it might help to have the Race Scanner app equipped.

Killing the gryphon gives you an item that is not essential to progress, but is helpful. Typhon isn't needed quite yet - you still need to deal with his wife first, of course. Actually I forget what you receive from doing the 4 guardians of that area, I think its access to the gate in the top right of the area, but that's just the normal entrance to Hall of Malice. Killing Typhon unlocks the area's Dissonance, which isn't needed until endgame
I don't think the Cog is necessary yet. However, you should have everything you need for it right now, if you wanted to get it. At the very least, you need 5 mantras and the Ancient Battery. Opening the chest is one thing, but the puzzle to actually get it is more devious - check for the room names and tablets that look out of place in other zones, particularly things written by Olympians.
The Moon Mantra is hidden in the Immortal Battlefield. Also, the room is not shown on the map. It's hidden pretty well and needs the Sun mantra to unlock it. Look for passageways into the zone that don't make sense.
The Underworld can be entered via Corridor of Blood. You may need the Moon mantra for that, if I remember correctly. Note that there is a sequence of gates you need to pass in the correct order to solve it properly. This alone requires 3 or 4 puzzles to be solved inside.

Surtr is easy even with just the axe, though. His health is ridiculously low to counteract his ability to 1-hit kill you.
My tips for beating him
>use the axe, whip hits below you on each second hit if you're hitting rapidly, katana could work while jumping but the hitbox sometimes lingers and breaks the block below you when landing
>he puts his face down when you're right in the middle of him, not when you're even a little to the side
>break the block underneath his mouth so the fire just drops off screen, then stand next to him and just wail on him
>I didn't even stand on his arm once, still killed him within 3 punches though
>break blocks that are about to fall on you by hitting them with the axe (slow, might be bad if there's two in rapid succession) or whip (faster, but smaller hitbox above you)

Where that is: if you notice, each field has an icon behind its name; scanning the reliefs in Divine Fortress implies that these represent the entire field. Each field map does indeed appear as a low resolution version of this image.

As for the bullet hell, there's places where you're safe, plus you can block them with the shield. Gold shield is available in her area as well., oh, and note that when she charges the large bullets, they won't hurt you until she shoots them so you can get some extra whacks in.

Yeah I tried with both the axe and the flail whip, but they're about the same so I went with the whip for damage. It's just the damage she does, and her health, leads to me getting worn down. When I get her into second phase, she's just hitting green health, and I'm already half dead. I find myself getting hit a lot by the lasers while trying to dodge another attack. I did get her down to purple with a healing fairy once, so I might try that again.

Echidna is actually really easy.
Always stay on the left side, instead of the right. If you're on the left, she'll do the blue ball rapid fire and mix it up with slow-moving blue orbs. If you're on the right, she'll just constantly spam the rapid fire blue orbs. Her mini lasers always fire in a clockwise direction: top left, top right, bottom, and repeating. If you can memorize the pattern, you can use it to avoid taking damage from her other attacks.
In terms of damage, contact with her will fuck you. The blue orbs (both fast and slow) do the most damage of her projectiles. Her machine guns can be safespotted without moving, the position depending on which phase she's in. I recommend just observing where to stand the first time she uses it. The mini lasers only do 4 damage so not a big deal if you get hit by them.
The knockback is what fucks me the most, so I recommend axing her from below instead of using the platforms. You can collide with the big blue orbs while she's charging it, sometimes getting an extra hit or two in. They're only harmful while they're moving. Oh, and regarding her big laser, the mini laser guns will provide a tell for where it starts up. Just go to the opposite side of the screen in most cases.

Yeah but you get what I'm saying, right? There's a bit of boss filtering so you can do whatever you want up until Viy, then ascend Tower of Goddess, then it opens up by a huge amount. There's even two meta puzzles you can't complete until the very end as part of the final shit.
Meanwhile in 2, all you have to do is kill Fenrir, maybe one or two other bosses in whatever order to get a few important items, go through each each, solve the weak meta puzzle (skulls/dissonance) and off you go
b150ec No.15309606
>>15309568
Well sure, I'm not arguing that 2 isn't more linear in its routing. Replaying 1 at the moment the distinguishing feature to me isn't just that each individual path of upgrades is more linear, it's how slowly the game opens up. You start LM1 and there are many viable routes, and once you get the Helmet, Hermes' Boots and the Bronze Mirror the ruins are blown wide open until the Tower of the Goddess bottleneck. By contrast it feels like in LM2 any time you get an upgrade it only grants you access to a few more areas or items, which in turn give you access to just a few more areas, all the way to the end. To me it's that gradual opening that gives it distinction.

So I'm not sure what to do next. I beat Heimdall, and I chanted the mantra from the prophecy in front of the gate on the spiral boat, which seemed to do something. But I still can't go through the gate, and Fobos told me I need something from Lemeza. I checked his camp and he wasn't there, although there were some journal entries. Checked Heaven's Labyrinth, still haven't checked the other two locations you see him in Immortal Battlefield. Am I missing a hint here?

If you leave that room by the lower entrance the pots will respawn when you climb back up the ladder, so you can get more mileage out of a fairy. Anu is annoying because he drops down for very little time. You're bound to get hit once or twice over a long time while waiting. You also have to be very precise or else you'd get contact damage. Keep in mind I also went through without subweapons (no shield either), so I'm looking at it from that way as well.

Okay. I finally got the dinosaur statue and beat jormungand. Boy was that shit stupid. Cost me like 10 hours, not even joking. There were almost no clues about the statue except that epitaph saying you need a statue to get through the door, but there were a handful about the "golden key", so I kept thinking you had to use the pochette key in some unintuitive way on an invisible object or something. Yeah, I know the statue was set apart from everything else in a conspicuous position. The first thing anyone will do when entering the room is try and attack it, and that's what I did. But the thing that fucked me is that you can only reach it with the rapier or certain subweapons, and after trying to attack it and finding that I couldn't break it the first time, I started completely ignoring it because it looks similar to all those other invincible projectile spitting dragon statues in the zone.

I don't remember an actual hint for it either, but it's the only time there's a statue blocked off by a wall just enough to make sure you can't hit it with your whip. It's pretty obvious something's gonna happen if you hit it.
It's the same as how the part of the screen below said statue has no visible use, but requires effort to get to. Of course there's going to be a breakable wall there. There are no useless places in Eg-Lana.
