This is the first I hear of it, but knowing how the RPG Maker series deteriorated, I'm sure this maker requires so much intimate knowledge of Ruby to do the most basic shit that you might as well learn a real programming language and make a game without the training wheels.

I think this is the engine that MUGEN built itself upon so (judging by they year in the engine title) I think it has been around for a while. It's mostly being used by Jap devs

The only game made in it that I played was Super Cosplay War Ultra and it was fun as fuck.

But it feels like the engine was holding it down.

2DFM sucks compared to MUGEN. Easier to use but much less powerful and about as janky. There have been a couple of good projects made in it, but they're in spite of the engine, not improved by it.

If I'm remembering correctly the reason MUGEN was originally for DOS was because it took years to release, which implies its dev history precedes 2DFM95. But I might just be making shit up.

You're retarded, RPG Maker didn't use Ruby or even have scripting at all until RPG Maker XP. The Japanese-only ones (and those that were fan translated) were very rigid in the way they worked, so people had to hack the executable or "code" shit using only events to do things not already possible in the engine. Also Ruby is easy as fuck to learn, and MV (using JS) is much more difficult to customize from what I've heard.

FMHQ community member here. I wish Enterbrain would release a new one already, but it seems like RPGMaker is the favorite child. The current (hacked) version of FM2002 is so uncompatible with Windows. Keeps fucking crashing whenever I wanted to load my sprites. Not to mention the limitations (256 colors, wav sounds)

A member of FMHQ made FIghter Creator which is kind of like FM2002 but with png support and mp3 sound file compatibility but the program itself has very little documentation. However, the thing I like about FM is how easy it is to load sprites. Compared to MUGEN when it came out, it was such a breeze.

There used to be many FM communities online but the only one living now is a sleepy forum and a Discord. In Japan there are still Doujin games made with Mugen but they never had any contact with the western FM community
