Languid conversations, weird minigames, and a "world where the sublime meets the ridiculous and the ridiculous is sublime", and all.
>"From my experience of Japan as a market, what we see is something that to us is very traditional publishing and development: Single player, story-led, sequel, sequel, sequel," Clark tells GI.biz. "And it's something that works in Japan. What's happening here is that the Yakuza franchise is being brought to the West and it's not being changed for the Western market, in terms of the gameplay.
>"We're not turning every Yakuza title into an open-world Yakuza game. That's not what's happening. We're representing the Japanese IP, the Japanese road map, the Japanese content to the relevant audience within the West. And whether there's a need to change that or not, I don't know. But it seems to be successful and it seems to be working."

What if this whole Denuvo thing was a set up from the beginning to have SEGA take the fall in US with ports to PC which would in turn cause the PC market to hate SEGA and push out one of the only massive Japanese non-SJW game companies left? Between Yakuza 5 and 6, I hate how they turned Kiryu into an absolute cuck. It's always been the same goddamn story line with him about him running away and/or doing his own shit. And it was implied at the end of 5 that Haruka was going to devote herself to Kiryu. 4's ending was again, Kiryu getting ready to come back into the scene, but then in 5 he's suddenly a goddamn taxi driver. Goddamnit Sega, get your shit together. If you were going to have Haruka and Kiryu get together then you should've fucking done it. Not dance around the bush on the implications and throw an NTR twist where Kiryu is taking care of his "wife's" son/daughter. JJesus fucking Christ, Sega. It's time to move on. You should've had Kiryu's chapter end and his son/daughter's chapter begin afterwards. But no.
YOU HAD TO KEEP REHASHING THE SAME FUCKING STORY FOR MULTIPLE TIMES. THIS IS LAZY AS FUCK. THIS DOESN'T MAKE KIRYU LOOK LIKE A BADASS WITH A SIDE OF HUMANITY. THIS MAKES KAZUMA KIRYU LOOK LIKE A FUCKING CUCK

It's not like GTA, it's more like a spiritual successor to Shenmue, but with more arcadey combat with bombastic special moves. There's minigames galore and a shitton of sidequests, with various tones to them. Some are serious, some hit you right in the feels, some are absurd and/or hilarious, while some are a rollercoaster of emotions. The only replay value is if you want to complete the game again in Legend difficulty or if you want to go back to it. Personally, I never replayed a Yakuza game until 2 or 3 years have past since I have last played it and I usually play the game again on legend right after beating it for the first time while just breezing through the story with my NG+ save. This however is impossible in 0 (you have to start from scratch) so I'm waiting for enough time to pass so I feel like playing 0 again.
You'll get your money's worth I reckon. I'm kind of a completionist so I always clock in 60-100 hours into each game, and that's just the first playthrough.
Also, like >>15237513 said, Kiwami is more like an expansion to 0 and not really a replacement for the original game since a lot of the new content in it that wasn't in the original directly references 0, the combat is also rebalanced, which is why you always play 0 before Kiwami and not the other way around. There's also way less content too, it took me about 45 hours to beat the game and do all the side content that I didn't feel like doing during my standard playthrough in premium adventure, which is kind of a post-game freeroam.
7dec44 No.15237548

How the hell am I supposed to play games with my shit-tier ISP who drops service randomly? You do not own the games you pay for, you aren't allowed to play unless the server says it's OK.
Beyond that, Denuvo stays installed even after uninstalling the game, doing who-knows-what on your computer. By agreeing to their EULA, you are giving them free reign to do whatever they want on your computer. For all intents and purposes, this is a virus.
No game is "worth" selling buying away your rights, Denuvo cannot be trusted any more than a random .exe downloaded from a sketchy website. I love Yakuza as well, but nothing is worth Securom 2.

The downfall of physical media works to the consumer's merit. A disc does nothing but hold the files which can be distributed in any way. The disc itself costs pennies, yet companies sold each for $60. Copying to a disc is no different from copying to your hard drive, it only bypasses stores like Gamestop, or scalpers selling rarer games for exorbitant prices. Downloading isn't necessarily nice or fun (especially on bad internet in my case), but the things it prevents justify it.

buying a digital copy from a content aggregate means your entire library is wiped at the company you bought it froms discretion.
no matter what happens, my copy of postal 2, painkiller, doom, starcraft, quake, quake 2, sim city 2000, lego island, etc that i bought 10-20 years ago still work. and i can still install them and play them without any access to the internet.

small, but detailed/believable world. fun combat with alot of variety and plenty of ways to test/push that combat difficulty/skill.
tons of fully fleshed out minigames that often affect the main world and unlock things in the main game.
none of it really feels disconnected either. for example even when you go into an arcade and it feels like it loads a rom of outrun or virtua fighter 5 or whatever, when you leave the "rom" and go back to yakuza, some nip is in the arcade noticing your skills and challenges you to beat their high scores. in successive missions of higher and higher scores eventually unlocking a new arcade cabinet.
even the slot car racing has a mission with increasing difficulty that goes with it. competing in races, buying better parts, facing harder opponents, getting the announcers life together, and eventually beating him. it even has a custom track creator. or just compete in the harder tournaments until
2 different types of rhythm games, the dancing one has its own story sidequest of challengers.
dating quests lead to unlocking softcore porn videos, dating quests are taking girls to places to play minigames together like dancing or karaoke. i dont know many other games that connect all this stuff together.

It was censored in Japan because of CERO (the rating board) that prevents any high level of violence unless it gets a Z rating, which japanese devs likely try to avoid (because a Z-rated game cant be bought without a credit card)

Investigated further into the link and apparently this is the actual link https://archive.is/3geg0#selection-2728.1-2757.5
The culprit is apparently not the DRM itself, but the encryption mechanism used to prevent the DRM from being reverse engineered. I find nothing but dead ends every time someone links a source. I know it's going to sound like a conspiracy theory, but I think it's a cleanup job. Articles on news sites is understandable because they could have been possibly been proven wrong and removed, but there are also images people have posted of their SSD stats while running the game which in their posts they claim it shows the proof, but those images have just been deleted out of the posts, I've seen this three separate times now. As an aside: In the "debunk" threads that I've read some of the examples aren't even using SSDs (pic related). After searching I can't find undeniable proof. A few people have stipulated that it's theoretically possible that users with a low amount of RAM who utilize their SSD space as extra RAM via the pagefile would eventually run into a problem with Denuvo where the aforementioned encryption mechanism would heavily degrade the SSD with its constant writes.

I don't think it's a clean up job. Considering the number of other lies surrounding denuvo like how it prevents modding (it doesn't: https://gamebanana.com/games/6045) I think it's just users with poor system management miscrediting their supposed hardware failure at a popular boogeyman.
The only thing I've ever seen substantiated with uncracked/cracked comparisons is performance, which gives a decent boost. Seems like the CPU is being taxed more with denuvo decryption, which once that's taken care of it is no longer draining resources resulting in a slightly improved FPS.

You get most of the money from beating the other clubs. Beating the last one gets you something crazy like 10 billion. I ended up having to send Kiryu money because Majima's skills are all much cheaper, so I was left with a lot of leftover money I didn't need and I didn't particularly feel like investing in the legend styles either.

ca3557 No.15286256
After roughly 65 hours I finished the game. I only ever played Yakuza 1-3 so it's not saying much but I thought it was the best Yakuza I've played. It was also nice seeing Majima as a normal human being instead of a batshit crazy dude, I really enjoyed his character development even if I feel that his jump from Yakuza 0 Majima to Yakuza 1 Majima is a bit abrupt.
I also wish Majima and Kiryu actually met in the game besides that final scene, Majima always acted chummy towards Kiryu so I would've liked to see them interacting for the first time and getting to know each other.
I hope Kiwami doesn't take too long to release and that it's at least as good as 0.

Personally, I don't think any other game will match 0 story-wise. (Played 1-5 before it). I enjoyed kiwami, its Y0 but with 1's story + some new things. The gameplay is a tiny bit better but I think the overall atmosphere is better in 0. You'll like Kiwami unless you are SUPER anal about minimal changes regarding original material/source.
9d4a80 No.15286371

Kiwami's not better than 0, it's just the first game in 0's engine, with the styles being balanced. Most of the main story is mostly untouched with the addition of cutscenes which show Nishiki's downfall. The side content is a hodgepodge of sidemissions which are taken from the original game and some which are a continuation of 0, along with the trashfire that is the Memejima everywhere thing.

It's not. Kiwami 1 is still a pretty decent game but it's really half-baked compared to 0 (which, granted, is understandable given its relatively lower budget) in terms of the amount of content on offer, the amount of effort put into the bosses and even the soundtrack. I enjoyed the Majima Everywhere system more than most people seemed to as well, but even still I'd rather it wasn't in the game.
It does have some improvements over 0, like the fact that you can seamlessly switch between fighting styles, but not enough that I've found myself wanting to go back to it instead of 0 (or any of the other numbered games, really).

Kiwami lacks the mundanity of Zero, which makes it so intriguing right now. Yakuza 1 was a big tragedy of muscle and tears, like a Sonny Chiba movie: the epic saga unfold before you without much connection. Having beaten the game I'm really glad I emulated Yakuza 1 and 2 before playing, I'm not sure how many other references there could be to 3 4 and 5, I know some of them from watching Hyper bit heroes video on the series, but from what I could tell I think 1 and 2 are the most important to enjoying Zero to the fullest extent, The game expects you to already know Kiryu and Majima well, so that by the end it's all the more stratifying when you see them take that step toward their future. Yakuza 2 really emphasizes the importance of Kiryu's tattoo and his title as The Dragon of Dojima, and that makes Zero's final boss pretty awesome, but I know for damn sure that final shot after the credits when the Yakuza 1 music starts playing would be no where near as satisfying if you didn't already have an understating of Majima and Kiryu's relationship, hard to think someone who's only Yakuza game is Zero would really get the significance of that "Kiryu-Chan!" if they've haven't heard Majima say it yet.
I guess it can seem unreasonable to want people to go back and play the PS2 versions, but I know that Kiwami's Majima everywhere system will really messes with the flow of Yakuza 1, when Majima shows up it's supposed to be an event, but with kiwami he's gonna pop up all the time, sure it will be fun since i'v already know 1's story, but I don't think that's the best way to experience 1 for the first time.

The game also looks fluid as fuck running at 60 FPS and it never goes below that, contrast that with any of the PS3 games which shit the bed regularly when it comes to framerate. Seeing Mine's purple heat stance which makes him heal and kill the framerate to sub-10 in the original not kill the framerate anymore was truly a sight to behold. If it comes to the west and it isn't a hackjob like the original release (I'm optimistic considering the current localization team) was it'll be the only game which I already own for which I'll drop shekels for the remaster.

Started having the same issues after 14 hours, here's what fixed:
"The cutscenes are apparently tied to the framerate, thus, whenever that jumps (which of course it does on mid- to high-end pcs) the sound can't catch up. The workaround that worked for me was limiting the framerate which (for whatever reason) is only possible via the game's .ini files.
So open your explorer and go to: Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\Sega\Yakuza0
Within, you'll find the graphics.ini and audio.ini
First, open the audio.ini (which is also the only way to separately control volume, game itself only has a Master Volume slider) and change the following values as shown:
StereoMode=1
AudioMode=1
Save and close, on to graphics.ini:
VSyncEnabled=1
MaxFPS=60
VSync might already be enabled, but the maxFPS somehow defaults to 240, which is way above what the engine was supposed to handle. "

I got the weirdest fucking bug in the PC version.
And it's not some random glitch either, happens every time (or at least started since Chapter 2). I never saw it discussed online, but I can't be the only fucking one seeing as it happens every time.
See webm.
Further explanation:
After playing Outrun/Space Harrier (maybe other arcades if there are any) and exiting, I am fucking teleported into Chapter 2 with specific equipment, like it loads some other save file for some fucking reason. Only money carries over (which is why I get a CP achievement every time).
Doesn't matter at what point in the game I am, same happened when I was playing as Mojima—I still became fucking Kiryu as I exited the game.
I thought that may be some conflict with the one of the older save files, so I deleted them. At first they didn't delete fully and became corrupted but I used a more roundabout guide I found and managed to get rid of them and even substitute them for the older ones in the Steam Cloud. And it still didn't help.
How the fuck can this even be possible?
Now I basically can't play those games. I don't remember this being a problem as I started the game, so I guess something in Chapter 2 triggered this.
