I guess talk about the other games and Skies Unknown coming out. What do you hope to see in the new game? What's your favorite:

>Game?

>Plane?

>Level?

>Boss/Squadron?

Just replayed 4 and 5, then played Zero for the first time. Had a real blast the whole way through, but I can't decide whether I like 5 or Zero more. 5 has more missions and story I suppose, but Zero has more replayability with slightly altered missions and the choice of play styles. Pixy was also a great end for Zero, so it's a shame the Morgan is so terrible compared to the Falken or Wyvern. At least the burst missiles are fun.

I still can't get over the SU-37, especially with Yellow Squadron's look in 5. Just feels great to use and only the two "secret" planes seem to beat it in maneuverability for me.

Sea of Chaos from 5 was great just because of the impact it had on me when I was younger. Really stuck with me throughout the years and Journey Home is a great song.

All the "superweapons" are pretty fun to me except for the Arkbird and XB-0 fuck those but Sorcerer from Zero kicked my ass until I eventually got better since I was pretty shit.

On a side note, did any of you play Infinity before the server shut down? Was it any good?

Do you prefer the Falken or the Wyvern out of the two? I love the looks of both, especially the Falken for some reason, but I seem to play slightly better with the Wyvern, despite both having the XLAA and the Falken seemingly having better stats.

c905c9 No.15235429

I want AC3 physics back. I want to engage in actual dogfighting like in 3, with energy trapping and controlled stalling. I'm fed up of the starter plane being as good as the last one you get. I'm fed up just holding the stick and launching two missiles when I hear tone. I feel like I could play 4/5/6 blindfolded at this point.

8fda37 No.15235467

>>15234961

i played a shit ton of infinity, it was hard to get into since you start with a shitty plane and the missions dont give enough credits to upgrade or buy a better plane. so the grind was bad. but it had a cool campaign at least. also they put all the iconic plains and missions in there, so you can replay Excalibur or Stonehenge in modern AC game.

>>15235429

i really wish they'd remake that and give it a proper translation.

I quit this game a year or so back. The many hours and real life cash I invested in it was a waste and a lesson learned…"Girl, don't hand over your hard-earned to a song-and-dance man".

3787d0 No.15236283

>>15235429

AC3 was actually the only game in the series before Zero that I never played. Was it really that good? I honestly mostly remember AC2 just because the concept of advanced AI flying the planes, along with the introduction of the Falken, really caught my attention back then. I'm wondering why they never introduced another boss plane that can shoot machine guns and missiles behind it.

>>15235467

Damn, I'm actually pretty sad I missed that then. Just looked up more about it and I saw some gameplay of someone using the Falken to attack a larger version of the SOLG. The grind probably would've killed me since repeating the same missions tends to drain my soul. Just unlocking the alternate/superior versions of the planes by grinding them in 5 is a killjoy to me.

>>15235803

I'd love some high altitude missions as well and it's a prime opportunity for new prototype fighters since it would fit with the new altitudes. Might even just barely reach into space. Looking back, it was very rare for me to climb above 15k in the last games unless the chase just so happened to get me up there. All I know about 7 is that clouds will be more prominent and they cause instability and stealth in a plane, but can also cause stalling as well. Apparently the focus will also be a man vs machine sort of deal since advanced AI have dominated aerial superiority at this point. I hope they go with a ZOE approach with the prototype fighters, too. I'm praying they don't go with Assault Horizon's shitty dogfight mode and I can't believe they were stupid enough to include that in the AC2 remake. Made ZOE even more embarrassing.

It's almost bizzare what tech AC3 had that they scrapped; for instance in AC3 enemy missiles can re-lock if you move back into their path after evading them, no other AC games have this.

True, but dedicated ground-attack weapons are significantly more efficient. You also need the standard missiles for dogfights, so you can't afford to use too many of them on ground targets.

>I think there are plenty of semi-arcadey semi-realistic air combat games around

Really? I haven't seen any. Not with jets, anyway. Not with their own universe, either. I find that one of the things I like most about AC is that it doesn't take place in the real world. Using the real world as a setting has too much baggage and too many limits, whereas using a fictional world lets you do whatever you want.

There's HAWX 1 and 2, Sky Crawlers (made by the AC devs) and that's about it as far as I can remember. There was a bunch of extremely shitty PS2 games trying to ape AC but they're not worth mentioning.

I don't do early access as a rule, but I made an exception for VT because I really wanted to support it. As far as I know, it's literally the only AC-style game in existence that's also highly moddable and includes an editor.

Despite its other problems, VT actually gets the gameplay right for the most part. My only major complaint about the gameplay is that for some reason it uses a static gunsight and lead indicator as opposed to an LCOS system like AC, but that's something that could probably be fixed in a patch. All the game needs is some optimization, some fixes for the sounds, and a full campaign. And to finally add the F/A-18 as a playable aircraft. For some reason, the game has every plane you'd expect except for that one.
