This is such a stupid fucking smokescreen but it fails to address the real point as to why most people are nostalgic for a specific era of anime. Yes, it's technically true (as pointed out in various posts ITT and other threads in ages past), but it's beside the point entirely. I think the real reason people are nostalgic for the kinds of anime of the 80's-2000's era (the good ones they're nostalgic for, anyway) is because they were indicative of a sense of style and creativity in the market that reflected the world as a whole, too. A brighter sense of imagination, with a wider set of influence that was largely untainted by the (((global market))) as we know it today. It's no wonder people want a return to such a style, when we see so much of the same homogeneous, shitty content that reeks of bland and uninteresting. Compare to vidya, and you'll see much of the same thing happening.
Relatedly, I really wish there was more of a market for good western, adult-themed animation. I was really fucking hoping Genndy Tartakovsky would've kickstarted this, but even the Samurai Jack return doesn't seem to have had enough of an effect.

Besides lowering resolution, there's lowering audio bitrate. The most you'll ever need is 64kbps stereo, but going down to 48 or 32 can be acceptable for quality if you don't have music. You could also lower the speed of conversion, which supposedly gives the encoder more time to find better ways to save space, but I can only stand conversion going so slow. I use an Excel file to calculate my bitrate to hit roughly the max filesize for files that would otherwise be larger.

Yes, the formula works. I have other cells that I fill in for the audio bitrate, duration in seconds, and target (max) size. I floor whatever the value is and use that in my file. If the video ends up being too big, I calculate a smaller audio value and re-encode just the audio at that value, then combine that with the encoded video. The reason for why Evangelion has contributed for being anti-escapist is because anti-escapism is a retarded fucking meme. First of all because it thinks that giving a people an outlet to "escape to" is a bad thing, and second of all, because it thinks that fiction in general can be anything else than "escapist". It's like every anti-escapist media thinks that what those kinds of works are doing is make people into reclusive shut-ins from sheer exposure to it, causing their problems by giving them a means of escape it's really like the argument of "VIOLENT VIDEO GAMES CAUSE VIOLENCE", when it's actually the opposite. The reason why people are even using escapist media is because they are reclusive shut-ins with problems that they are unable to solve. People who use escapist-media are people who cannot deal with stress very well and seek an outlet, often being aware of their own problems but being complete emotional wrecks who cannot solve them themselves. It is because of their problems that they come to escapism, not the other way around. Anti-escapist media works on an assumption that whatever problem there is, it can be solved directly by facing it by the person having the problem, when most of the people who use escapist media are people with issues that affect their very way of thinking about such problems, often making them unable of solving any problems. People who use escapism as a means of stress relief are mostly depresive people, often with incompetent parents who fucked over their lives, the reason why they cannot fix their shit is because no one ever taught them to, or they have too many psychological issues to be able/even care at this point. This is not something that can be fixed by the people suffering from those problems, they need outside help to get shit done. This is why we even have psychiatrists. inb4, psychiatrists are a jewish subversion, there is difference between psychiatry and psychology, and mental issues can be tracked to problems with your brain's chemistry, there are exceptions, but most of those people need competent help either from a doctor or at least from someone who can help them get their life on track to function like normal human beings would. Taking away the only stress relief that the people who indulge in escapism have, would just lead to them probably killing themselves or going insane.
Besides, the idea of an anti-escapist piece of fiction is retarded in it's own right. Fiction is escapist by fucking nature, it creates an artificial world that you indulge yourself in, and forget about real life, allowing you to look at your life from the perspective of fiction. Good fiction is immersive, and even if it's filled with problems, you are still focusing on someone's else's problems and not yours. Fuck, I find escapism even in the horror genre, even though it's filled with dark fucking shit. Even if you're trying to create a piece criticisng escapism, you can only do that by creating a world in which escapism is a bad thing, and make the characters realize that, or be harmed by the dangers of escapist worlds. By doing that, you're creating a fictional environment in which a debate on escapism cannot be had that isn't wrong, this is the only way that a meaning can be conveyed through fiction, if you pick a side, I'm not saying that it's a problem with fiction, but rather that it's hypocritical of anti-escapist fiction to do due to it's inherent nature and you are validated as right. That's also escapist for people who believe in your opinion, allowing them to validate themselves without actually engaging in conflict. The thing is, we cannot be engaged in stress and problems all the time. We fucking need some rest.

We all are partaking in some form of escapism, for normalfags, drinking a lot of alcohol at parties is escapist, as they're creating a temporary, artificial situation which is detached from their daily lives, a special event that they can partake in and make their boring fucking lives a bit more lively. For us, video games and anime are escapist, for someone it's something else. Anything that takes us away from the struggles of real life can be escapist, and I'm constantly tired of hearing that it's a bad thing. No it's fucking not, that's normal human behaviour, the only thing that is different between a normalfag going to party on weekends and a NEET spending his entire week on anime is the levels of stress that they're taking in and their ability to cope with stress. The ability to cope with stress should be learned at an early age, but due to retarded parents it is often not, and it's not the fault of the people who are suffering from the lack of it. Granted they can fix it themselves, but without help it's often nigh-impossible. As much as people are talking shit about Hikki's, it's like everyone forgets that Japan is a high-stress society, with humongous, unhealthy expectations thrown at you, far more bullying, and a far more judgemental society. Those people were simply never taught to deal with stress, or are just naturally inclined to have more problems with it. Most of them were bullied at school, had shitty parents or both. It's no different from us, who have similar problems, they're just amplified in Japan because of how high-stress the country is.
I haven't even finished watching the webm and I already had this much to autistically rant about. Everytime something mentions a piece of "anti-escapist" media, saying how shit "escapism" is, I get more and more angry at how fucking retarded the idea is.
