bfc55e No.15220498

Are nuzlockes a meme or are they actually fun?

I want to replay heart gold but can't really be fucked doing it the normal way around.

Should I try one of those randomizer or higher difficulty hacks?

b0f176 No.15220538

They can be fun but I'm not a fan of tying your arm behind your back just to make things fun, go play Pokemon stadium if you want a challenge

I recommend that.

Why not both?

Some people like them. I'd rather just pick pokemon that I'd usually not choose. Like, instead of picking Gyrados, I'll take that faggot pelliper instead. It makes the game more interesting because the pokemon that aren't cool usually suck dick so its kind of a challenge.

6ff2c8 No.15220581

Try for yourself.

I found it extremely fun, and there is some weight to every combat that makes it thrilling.

You also develop some heavy bonds with your mons and will be fucking upset when any of your trusted companions bites the dust.

56334a No.15220592

I did one of Sapphire and I had a blast, but at the same time I never finished it so I guess after a certain point the novelty wears off.

I'd recommend it if you feel like playing a handheld Pokemon game and you want the same game but a totally different way of playing it. Pre-Nuzlocke I would just run through the game thoughtlessly, not caring about type differences and movesets, but with Nuzlocke suddenly strategy becomes important.

It's also pretty cool to come across Pokemon you didn't give two shits about before who become bro-tier favorites.

Pokemon stadium is only hard if you try to use their fucktarded rental pokemon who might as well have been randomly generated And I suspect they were If you train and configure your team by playing the GBC games then its ezpz as long as you aren't retarded.

64cb51 No.15220887

Pokemon is very easy

nuzlocke is like seasoning that gives it some flavor, but that doesn't mean the game itself will be up to standard. It depends on which generation. For instance generation 6 is trash, while crystal is very good

65a337 No.15220929

Use a randomizer that adds the whole pokedex to the wilderness, make it give random types and switch around the pokemon stats, it makes nuzlockes extremely amusing. Like finding a gym leader using an ice type squirtle that spams sheer cold.

I liked it, brought new life and challenges into an old game. Plus you use pokemon you never would have before, and the shitty ones you hate end up being best bros, and the ones you love die horribly on you. I remember the nuzlocke an anon did when we got here. That was fun.

3a255a No.15221165

It makes the game better, not by much but naming your pokemon and fainting have real consequences certainly makes you form an attatchment to your team.

I honestly can't play them any other way nowadays.

You could always invent your own challenge as well OP. Maybe something like only playing with pokemon that have normal and bug types. After you catch the first of either, drop your starter. Call it the small fry challenge, or do something else. Maybe keep to a single type, that'll be the gym leader challenge. The point is that Nuzlocke is fun, but you can always find a way to make your own challenges rather than following a template of others.

3ba2fb No.15221824

Pokemon games are fundamentally broken shit that is basically incapable of being difficult unless you're a youngfag that's also horribly dumb. Competitive battling kind of shows how it could not be this way, but they've never gone in that direction. It's always the same shit where your Pokemon get raised properly and thus utterly demolish the shitty Pokemon given to your opposition that the AI is not programmed to use even remotely correctly.

The main appeal of these to me is the fact that your Pokemon die and never come back. So it sucks when you lose one of your favorite buds. Bonus points if playing a hard romhack.

meme, just take on the battle facilities if you want a true challenge

the most fun battle facility was world tournament, I wish they'd bring it back

Nuzlockes are 100% a meme unless you're the kind of faggot that always picks the most smogon approved mon with the most smogon moveset you can give it just to get through an in-game playthrough, and even then that's just mostly because of the stipulation that you have to catch the first and only the first pokemon you find in a route/area. At a glance nuzlockes are obviously terribly designed since grinding to be overlevelled to ensure no deaths or grinding up underlevelled pokemon after deaths is going to be a major part of the playthrough. The only time it becomes interesting is if you deliberately use fodder mons to allow switching, because a good pokemon match usually ends between 3~1 vs 0, if you're 6/5-0'ing then that just means the match was shit, and nuzlocke grossly encourages the latter.

Play a difficulty romhack if you're okay with some EV-grinding (which any good romhack will give massive shortcuts for) or just do this >>15220577. Randomizers don't really mean much since almost every battle will be stupdily trivial or an absolute hardwall with the options you have available, but I guess it can still be fun?

I did end up using a mono-ground team in Diamond, but mono-teams aren't too difficult.

You need to pour on more limitations (no revives in battle, no X Items, can't use healing twice in a row, etc).

>>15221824

Competitive isn't easy- just incredibly time consuming unless you hack to make a team, then it boils down to get your stat boosts in ASAP and unleashing as much damage as possible.

The top 12 Pokemon used for competitive rarely change, the top 30 only a little more. They use the same moves nearly every damn time. The only variation is in the training so they have a few more or less points in it's stats so it can gamble on surviving certain attacks while still unloading damage.

It's not easy, but it's a strategically wide and shallow guessing game. 50 different tactics with only 2 viable. Now how much damage while my attack do now I know that last attack did roughly 30% damage, better get my fucking calculator. Gosh this is fun!

I love the franchise, but I fucking cringe when I see the sort of people that go to the competitions

And I'm horrified I'd fit right in.

>>15222463

They tried to solve the issue of abusing stat boosts by having each trainer only have one Pokemon.

But yeah, avoiding using Potions at all cost. Not like an NPC won't fucking heal you every 30 mins anyway or you'll be able to find a Pokemon center on a route.

I'm not playing it because I want a challenge.
