even if the clan you join is small, you will never get respect. you might get invited to clear out camps or a dungeon if they remember you and don't have enough people, but otherwise they will barely ever acknowledge you.

there might be one guy. once that guy was the clan leader. but the rest of the guys in his clique still ignored me, other than to say "oh, good." when i mention i single handedly gathered all the resources we need for our base expansion. fuck those guys.

There are some things to keep in mind when playing solo/terrorist.

Build small and hidden.

Have 1 or 2 workshops, but don't keep valuables in them, don't get lazy and just leave crafted stuff in benches either.

Deposit your valuable thralls and stuff in hidden vaults. Where you hide em is up to you, I like tho build a 4x4 foundation in deep water and put vaults ontop of em, underwater you can't see how much HP a vault has and who owns it.

My general game schedule:

1: Initially Focus on production and bases, use spare materials on decoy bases, I love making random vaults to make clans waste explosives on them.

Week

2: Once every few days or at least once a week I do what I call an intel run. I just run around the whole map and marking where everyone's base is. Protip, carry around a single foundation block out so that when you go near a hidden base the block will say you can't place it due to land being claimed, I've found so many hidden bases where they don't fortify properly coz they think they're hidden.

3: Scavenge and amass explosives.

4: Offline raid: I don't care how dishonourable you think it is, you're a soloist, you can't compete against foundation/repair spam defense.

5: Fight as often as possible, try getting friendly dueling events going to gain as much PvP experience as possible. You'll be able to fight 1v5 once you gain enough experience, survival sandbox players are similar to MMO players, they spend so much time grinding they suck at PvP in general, so this part isn't hard if you've ever been competitive before.

6: Politics: Be as friendly as possible in global chat, give away free stuff to newbies and people struggling, todays newbies can be tomorrows big guys and it helps to be in their good books.

7: Disinformation: Whine about general game things with intentionally misleading information. For example, "Fuck why do the relic hunter keep offline purging me, I hate how i can get offline purged" Relic hunters only spawn in the desert near seperu city, so saying this will make people believe your base is in the desert. "Fuck me, there's never any good thralls in Asagard" implying you have a base near there when you might not. "Fuck why is there no coal in X area."

Oh and when you're actively hunting people to kill, make sure you have a pick axe. A lot of people like to jump into water because you can't swing weapons while swimming. However you can still beat someone to death while swimming with a pick axe.

In games more than a decade old there are I sometimes find several groups of people that know about one another but refuse to play against them because they typically are all composed of tryhards and instead choose to scrounge off of the weaker solo players or new(ish) players

You need to be willing to endure, grinding and running around to be able to cause mischief. These sort of games aren't instant gratification. But the ways you can cause havoc and make people mad is enjoyable for me for at least some time.

Some other intersting stories:

Giant Dam Clan

This clan blocked off a huge waterway cavern with tall walls, it was really inconenient for other players since this was an easy travel route. They missed a spot and I managed to climb through, managed to steal some thralls and a legendary weapon. I didn't particularly like these guys since they were blocking a shortcut, so what I couldn't carry I just emptied onto the floor to despawn, unfortunately I didn't have any explosives or weaponry on me since I was in my thievery/climbing loadout, otherwise I'd destroy their bed(spawnpoint) and kill em to force em back to the starting area.

Oblivious Clan

There was also another clan with a huge base in the middle of the desert, for whatever reason they had windows in their base(never build windows in pvp, i can just reach in to steal stuff nearby or shoot at your thralls to make em attack me, then I murder em and take all the gear you put on em.) I was smarter about stealing from these guys, their crafting benches were exposed, so instead of emptying em out, I'd periodically just walk by and take what I need, took em so long to catch on that people were stealing their production.

Archer Clan, Die In Fire

This clan surrounded their main base with with tiny huts filled with archers. They had poison arrows, so you could accumulate poisons stacks fast and die. I felt like it analagous to marine bunkers in starcraft. I noticed 1 of them close to their base was a little further from the other bunkers so I blew up that bunker and baited their archers out 1 by 1. Then i had to sort of poke in and out of cover, plant and detonate 1 explosive at a time to avoid dying. After getting through their first gate, I ran past all the arrows firing and planted myself into a nook created by destroying their first gate, none of the archer bunkers could touch me coz I was not in line of sight, they also boxed in their archers into the bunkers to prevent them from meleeing and forcing em to shoot, the downside is they can't follow me. I ran out of explosives part way and switched to using fire and oil to slowly burn their additional gateways down. As I reached their inner door, i heard alot of yelling, they had a lot of fighter Thralls ready to defend. As soon as that final door crumbled, i thought I was in for a big fight, however luckily for me, a single floor tile was destroyed as well. This was a tight hallway, only 1 block of space, so all the enemy thralls ran straight for me and got stuck because of the hole created infront of the door by pure coincidence, their army of thralls just died in the fire. I then ran in and destroyed their beds(spawnpoints) and killed them, forcing them to respawn at the very south of the map, their base was far north so this was great.

I play mostly multiplayer games and I almost never have teammates screaming at me. And no, it's not because I am the screaming one… You are clearly into normalfag games like cs:go and overwatch.

To be fair this is exactly what /v/ does whenever we play online games together. I get what you're saying though. It felt like game communities were more open in the past, like it was easy to start playing a game and make new friends. That feels like it would be impossible now unless you're explicitly playing with anons that you know you'll have stuff in common with. I guess people are so desperate for identity and community today that they feel the need to form cliques and viciously defend them from outsiders, and it's hard for us to understand because we take our culture and identity as anons for granted.

When I was playing Wurm Online ages ago, the cliques were powerful and frustrating to deal with. They renamed our lake, built retarded land bridges everywhere, and were generally a nuisance, So we did the one thing we could as newbies: we undercut the ever loving fuck out of their prices for goods.

They harassed us, they screamed at us, they begged us, they trolled us, they stole our things (even though their stuff was better than ours anyway)… and we just continued. In a game where every coin matters significantly, the other people on the server had no choice but to buy from us instead of them, even though many of them were friends.

The tensions on this group of friends grew and grew until they started splitting apart and some were siding with us. They all screamed at each other on the forums and cried like fucking babies… and we just continued undercutting them and anyone else who wronged us. We actually amassed enough money doing this that our purchases were starting to bend the economy in our direction.

Then we quit because we got bored lol.
