you're going to take some heat for this thread but I'll bite. I'm cautiously optimistic. A lot of nerds here were pissed that they abandoned the fixed perspectives in favour of the OTS RE4-style but anyone who thought that current year crapcom would risk alienating same year gamer bros with that stuff was out of their mind. And I say that as someone who would've killed to get something akin to REmake except with RE2.
You're right though, It's a way way off and the PC version is confirmed for using denuvo but Voksi has said that he would crack it Day 1 to teach them a lesson, so there's that. As long as they don't fuck things up too badly with DLC jewing or cutting too much content or it being just a shit game, I think the odds are quite good that we'll get something that is fun
But I've learned not to get my hopes up in the past so I'll just do my best to forget all about it until it actually comes out

I've been slowly replaying the series since before E3 in anticipation of the announcement, and after the trailer I'm still looking forward to it. Seeing that it wouldn't be true REmake style definitely stung, but after replaying RE1 and RE2 back to back and then replaying REmake it does make some sense. I could see how they might feel that the increased enemy density and ammunition in RE2 wouldn't necessarily fit with REmake's setup.
I don't want to look at too much pre-release material and spoil myself but it at least looks like a quality game, if not necessarily up to the standard of RE2 or REmake. The limb dismemberment they were showing looked pretty neat.

It looks great. The 7 engine is solid and its the REmake guys doing the same for 2. I expect it to be more hectic and action based then REmake as escalation of scale was basically the point of RE2. My personal interest is if they will complete the Raccoon City trilogy with Last Escape/Nemesis.

I pre ordered it. It looks like they finally tried and i will support something like this.
This is the first Resident Evil game that's going to be like the classics with a third person view. Something that Resident Evil 4 should've been.
I'm highly skeptical, though, I fear that the gameplay trailers and everything they showed are some sort of trick and in the end it's going to be another straight forward, holding hand bullshit.
Haven't bought a game in a long time, let's see if i regret this.

Not really, you could modify the parameters on enemy health, ammunition, damage, speed and the aiming system and land something like the original games had, hell, people are trying to do that with left 4 dead 2 mods, i dont see why a fully fleshed game with big bucks behind it (you bet capcom is throwing shekels at this) wouldnt be capable of working something out.

So much is reliant on proper enemy and item placement depending on the camera angle, both 3rd and fixed. Sometimes, there are rooms that the fixed camera will never see one half of it. That means an entire half of the room can't have anything important, unless you add more camera angles to facilitate the player moving towards that direction. I bring this up because the game is obviously designed around 3rd person, and this is a true remake so some items will be placed differently.
Look up gameplay of a classic Resident Evil and count how many camera angles are in a single room. There's easily anywhere from 5-10 per room unless it's really small. Hundreds of camera angles that need to be positioned and tested.
Could they do it? Sure. But, it's a lot more work. I don't think they'll ever do it unless it's post-game DLC. Even then, I never expect it. It would really surprise me.
Just a point of my own, I never expected the RE2make to have a fixed camera. It also doesn't bother me.

Same here. I usually get every RE game that has Leon in it. He's one of my favorite characters ever. I really respect horror protags like him and Isaac because they aren't pussies. They managed to survive and escape hell once, only to then voluntarily keep returning to hell in the sequels. Most horror protags are one and done pussies. I'm going to be honest, I enjoy both the horror and action games in Resident Evil's history
I'm actually holding out for a game where you play as the monster, like a Mercenaries game where it's a giant crossover where you can play as the survivors and monsters/tyrant types in a campaign, or on VS.
Like imagine a game where Nemesis, William Birkin/G, Mr.X and a new monster are all regular characters you can play as that have different stats or attributes that give them weaknesses but their actions make up for it.
Like Nemesis has a rocket launcher, but only a few shots and really shit speed until he gets damaged enough to lose the overcoat, which drops his ranged shit for charge moves tentacles or some shit.
regular Tyrant or Mr.X would have a cooldown charge and big melee range and so on, Birkin/G would be able to make minions by sticking nearby zombies periodically etc.
Resident Evil's camp, so between their horror games they should just do something really fucking stupid, it might be fun.

I enjoyed RE7 despite it not being perfect (and you can watch their GDC video to get an idea of what went wrong for the third act of the game). REmake 2 looks good minus the cowabooty bullet spread and expanding reticle bullshit. I enjoy the salt from everyone who wants to burn down Capcom because they didn't make it fixed angles. I can tell already this is gonna be another Fallout 4 situation where everyone says they're not even gonna pirate it while the game's not out. See that is the problem. That worked with Resident Evil VII for the because the youngest of the characters are about 40. Scanning a face seems to work better for older people than younger ones. Its the same reason that Granpa Dante even though we only get a flash of him in the DMC5 trailer looks way better than Nero. Capcom just scanned in Langdon's face for that and he is getting on a bit now.
Younger faces are too smooth the scanners miss details so they come out looking plastic and shit looking.
