Anyone else here dislikes new super bros? I feel that nearly every one that talks about it, does so with praise. However, I feel that it is far inferior to a lot of the other mario games, not to mention the donkey Kong country games. I know this is an outdated topic at this point, but I still wanted to talk about it.

Where? Not even normalfags like these games. Everyone and their mother says that they're generic and milked to death, and "only fun in multiplayer", kinda like BRs and watching paint dry.
To be frank, they have the same problem as 3D Mario, but more obvious since they're budget games: Nintendo has been told time and time again that Mario's generic and overdone, and they have to "innovate", so they innovate in retarded ways and leave the important things untouched. That's why all the NSMB games have new powerups, and each 3D Mario game has some shitty new gimmick, but they all have the same generic level themes, Odyssey perhaps trying a bit harder than the others but still not forgetting to include a generic desert level, generic water level and generic ice level in there.

Pretty much, like the first one was enjoyable. Nowadays it's just the same games over and over. I didn't even bother with the WiiU game, especially since the 3DS one was so bad. I'm just thankful that Mario Maker became a thing.

More my issue is the series never really progressed beyond Wii
Like think about Mario 1 2 and 3
Yes I mean Doki Doki Panic you faggot retard, SMB2 JP was only made because the execs were retarded and thought people's brains would melt if the sequel didn't play exactly like the first
They're all pretty starkly different from eachother and have something to offer.
If you aren't interested purely in the multiplayer or the levels themselves, there isn't really much different if you're playing NSMB Wii or NSMB 2/U

The first was fine. 3D graphics (mostly), loosened control for more movement options, wall jump, triple jump, took away the cape for blue shell which is okay, mega mushroom gimmick was gay and for target audience (kids), world and level design mostly interesting, star coins a bitch sometimes, and Luigi was in it.

I do hate this game, but probably for a different reason from everyone else. Long story short I ended up having to trade it in to gamestop just to get my mom to stop taking my fucking DS and then letting my siblings have it to destroy with their greasy, booger covered hands (despite "don't fucking give it to those little pieces of shit" being the one single condition I gave for letting her play it.) By the time I got it back though the damage had been done. Sage for blogpost.

After playing a lot of SMM levels, I missed some well designed 2d levels. I think their plan was to have SMM be the end of 2d mario games, but there sure are a ton of total bullshit levels out there.
The thing about NSMB was that they were decent 2d mario with little innovation. It could scratch that itch for something new, but it's not nearly as good as an older SMB game like SMB3 or SMW.
Speaking of which, NSMB really highlights what's wrong with the series when you look at the leaps between games like SMB1, SMB3 (SMB2 is just redone Doki Doki Panic in the West, doesn't count), and SMW. Look at how different those games were, and how much they improved on the original. And then NSMB came out and it was just more of the same stuff. It was like an updated SMB3 with some new powerups and just not as good of a game. I think people really dislike NSMB so much because it was sort of a slap in the face for people who wanted something as good as SMB3 or SMW. And it really shows a lack of innovation and change in a series that usually made huge strides each release.
I skipped NSMB and just played NSMBU. I did enjoy it, but it's forgettable.

A lot of Wii games were "toned down" in difficulty because most of the people buying Wiis were casuals. It's exactly why Smash Bros Brawl is the most casual entry in the entire series. Nintendo seems to design their games around their audience. Wii u was hardcore Nintendo fans, mostly, so they released more difficult games like W101, DKCTF, etc. (not all of them were difficult, but they weren't afraid of making difficult games like with Wii).

While Kondo was responsible for the idea of enemies and the such bouncing to the music, he only wrote two songs for NSMB, and none for the rest of the series. He's just a "sound director". He's done some work lately, doing most of the music for Mario Maker, and some Odyssey songs, but before that, he did only a couple songs for a few games. Pic related.
As for Mario Kart, it doesn't have one composer.
Soyo Oka did Super,
Kenta Nagata did 64,
Shinobu Tanaka and Kenta Nagata did Double Dash
Kenichi Nishimaki, Masanobu Matsunaga and Minako Hamano did Super Circuit
Asuka Ohta and Ryo Nagamatsu did Wii
Shinobu Tanaka did DS
Kenta Nagata and Satomi Terui did 7
Shiho Fujii, Atsuko Asahi, Ryo Nagamatsu and Yasuaki Iwata did 8.
You have some reoccurring staff, but no one has done even half of the series.

The first New Super Mario Bros. was really, really good, especially because of the novelty. When Nu-tendo started using it to train their employees and let them come up with new shit it all went downhill. Given that NSMB is made by a team that literally made two games before the first one, and their only other major games are Big Brain Academy and the Pikmin ports (which were actually pretty alright all things considered), I'm impressed that they managed to make something resembling a good game by the time NSMBU/Luigi U came out. Given that they basically causlized their in-house level editor and turned it into a video game in the form of Super Mario Maker, and the re-structuring of Nintendo after their handheld and console departments merged for Switch, I doubt we'll be seeing any more NSMB games at least for a while. If you really want to play good official Nintendo levels, go download the eShop version of Super Mario Advance 4, Nintendo put all the eReader levels in it and pirates got a hold of it so unless you really hate tiny screens and GBA sound quality voice clips of Charles Martinet (I wouldn't blame you if you did) you should play them.

It never really bothered me because I always play these games in short bursts while I'm waiting for something else or just bored. There's always a few unique levels or powerups that keep my interest. I liked the first one because it had been so long since we had a proper 2D Mario. I liked the Wii game for finally being a 2D Mario on a home console and its multiplayer, but the shitty style was already annoying me. Beyond that I couldn't care less, there is only so many times you can serve me lukewarm leftovers.
ce575d No.15209203

The first one was fun and different, although pretty easy. Multiplayer was decent. A lot of the minigames were taken from SM64DS which I wouldn't have minded considering you got them straight away this time, but you didn't even get all of them. (I can't find my DS right now to test this, but did those games not have multiplayer in SM64DS? I can't remember it's been so long, but if they didn't I can let NSMB slide on that for at least improving the games it did get.)
The Wii version was very similar to the DS version if not nearly the same, but it allowed you to play with multiple people at once which was kinda neat. There were a couple new powerups, but overall it seemed more casualized than its already easy predecessor.
From then on the core game improved so little that there's really not much to discuss. Even Call of Duty and Pokemon change change their mechanics/features more than New Super Mario Bros has done, and both of those series have been criticized for years for endlessly rehashing their games.
