There are dozens of good arguments against Dota, I have my own complains too and am not even playing it myself since a few weeks. the problem with dota 2 is that it's the first example where i've seen a community ruin the game. i don't think there's anything wrong with it really besides the hordes of south american trash infesting north american servers, specifically peruvians. this is unfortunately a huge problem.

i don't have much to say about lol since i only played it for a brief amount of time. the reason i stopped playing after a few hours is because it's blatantly p2w. i'm not going to grind to level 30 then have to grind to unlock heroes. the barrier to entry in lol is riduclous. they make so much money and yet still have heroes locked behind grinding or paying. no thanks

Dota has been slowly been turning itself into League with patches, but 7.0 was the breaking point. Although it's still nowhere league levels of bad.

The big thing I remember is lategame got buffed hard, which is stupid, because convincing your team to end early in pubs is basically impossible. However picking a draft that scales better essentially guarantees victory.

This is not that bad of an idea. I have had several games where I could do absolutely nothing, even when playing optimally, just because another lane fed an enemy to the point they double everyone else in level, and can easily kill 5 people at once under fountain without sweating it. The most egregious case I remember was a Sun Wukong that dod exactly that, and no amount of coordination allowed us to kill him once he reached level 25. And all of that just because some fags at the safe lane decided to be fags. With comeback gold, by killing him somewhat earlier, you can more or less end up fighting back, eeven if you are still likely to die like a bitch and lose the game.

Killing someone 5-10 levels above you, the range in which comeback gold starts to be insane, is a challenge on itself, and will probably require full team coordination. Of course it will be rewarded.

Besides, it is not like the point of the game is the laning phase. You shouldn't be excessively punsihed for not being the best at arguably the most boring and skinnerboxy part of the game.

But then on the flip side you have shit like Venomancer's magic damage ultimate piercing spell immunity, which I assume is some holdover from Warcraft 3 kept because 'balance'. The game isn't intuitive to learn. You basically have to learn each ability and item individually, making the barrier for entry fucking enormous not based on skill but how much you know. A lot of new players wouldn't understand an item like Satanic (why am I building a 3000 gold STR item on an AGI hero?) or how to counter it. In league of legends its damn simple; build armour or grevious wounds (and there's an item that does both). But in Dota, what is the counter to Satanics lifesteal? There are many options that are not inherently intuitive, because some are defensive and some are offensive. Halberd, Euls, Blademail etc.

Not to mention since becoming Dota 2, the game has accelerated more towards hyper carries. Gold generation went up, consumables went down in price and more aggressive late-game items came to exist like Hurricane Pike. Your 0-gold supports that are supposed to benefit from these things still end up 0-gold supports who might get 2-3 non-boots items by 40 minutes, and when I say 2-3 I mean cheap shit like Euls.

Hold on, I've only just discovered that they made Strength give magic resist. Fucking why? I thought spell casters were already not doing enough damage lategame that they needed to add in spell amp. Also have heroes always gotten increased benefits from their primary attribute? Fucking why. +1 damage was plenty enough. All it seems to do is disincentivize buying items outside of your stat pool (albeit marginally) which was the entire fucking appeal of dota; being able to build based off function and not stats.

Soft counters is how a game should be designed, because it creates more interesting interactions. Dota actually has heaps of soft counters. I mentioned a few for Satanic earlier in the thread, such as Halberd and Blademail. League is actually the opposite, where you build a big armour item to counter a damage item (randuins vs crit, thorns vs lifesteal, adaptive helm vs DoT magic).

The problem is Dota's hard counters tend to be much, much more polarizing.

There is a back and forth to it.

Well, League of Legends has downgraded a lot from S2 to nowadays.

If you aren't going to really play it seriously or don't already have an account, I would recommend DotA 2.

The reason for that is that meta matters way less, no pre game setup such as masteries, builds are built-in, etc, it's a way easier game to just go in and play. In League you will spend years grinding so you have a reliable champion pool, not to mention the limitations of not being level 30 which does nothing but to get in people's way.

Edgy DotA 2 kids will probably get mad at me for this, but that's how it is.

The key to dealing with Slark is AoE damage and thinking a step ahead of the guy playing him. Just before I quit playing, most of the Slarks I saw were getting consistently bodied by Wukong, since his abilities slow, do assloads of damage, and apply orb effects. Legion/Slark can go either way, since her damage and health come from items rather than stats, but that matchup relies on one getting ahead of the other first.

If you want a good item to counter Slark, a well timed orchid can ruin most of his team fight presence. Even if he does have a purge ready, you can still use it to disrupt his ability to use it and give him another thing to focus on, which could open up the opportunity to hit him with a double whammy and make him decide between multiple things he needs to purge (i.e. Do I dispel the stun/poison/gay electric ghost's tether or do I dispel the orchid?)

Slark is a character that's very good at what he does (being a semi-capable carry with a focus on picking-off enemy heroes), but he's largely let down by:

Basically all of this means that Slark is a hero that can easily be punished by forcing him to make risky, aggressive plays, since he cannot just AFK farm because any real carry will come out stronger. I would recommend LoL over Dota, and only because character turn speed isn't a thing. In Dota, characters are sometimes blanced around how fast they respond to your movement commands, which feels like ass. Dota is in general a better moba, but the moba genre is kind of awful in general and League manages to minimize that a bit.

if you ever feel like caring about league again, his Q can do more damage output than his ult, simply because of cooldown. His Q also stacks AP with each creep kill or hero hit, if I'm not mistaken. He's the only one who can breach 1000 AP. On weaker heroes, the Q can sometimes kill in one blow if you're playing very well and stacking that AP. Since the stun is delayed, you can use this to deny enemy paths when fighting one on one to get them into range for a Q+ult for a kill before the stun even arrives. In large fights, just drop the stun in the middle of the enemies to catch out the retard(s), and just dispatch him with a meteor and a Q. His ult should also stack with the target's AP, making it good for other mages, or just chucking it to 1hKO any low HP assassins that try to jump on you playing veigar means this happens a lot because he's also low HP and has what's probably the highest burst damage potential in the game for AP heroes

One thing that drove me away from LoL is the war on point and click abilities. Yasuo has 3 points and click abilities, a shield that negates all damage, and a wind wall that blocks all skillshots. He will never be changed because he is popular.
