We're never going to get shit like this again, are we?
155dd1 No.15186801
You still get licensed tracks, only now the game loses them after so long. Also since it will usually be current year top hits, you probably won't like the shit that they have anyway.

25b425 No.15186920
That's actually for the best. You wouldn't want to play games with licensed current year soundtracks.
What's depressing is that no, we won't ever get a sequel (either direct or spiritual) to the Burnout 3 Trilogy.

The kikery of the music industry and its garbage current year content caught up with vidya some years ago. It's for the best that original game soundtrack is more prevalent since it's the only "genre" of music that doesn't have any social agendas behind it.
We've had a good run though, every since WipEout pioneered licensed music in vidya back in '95, when music was still purely music.

Paradise was terrible. I hated it.
Maybe it would've been redeemable if it didn't fell for the open world cancer.
And still, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2010 is a better open-world Burnout than Paradise.

Games set in the past have the best licensed soundtracks. All but the biggest hits (Elvis, the Beatles ect.) are pretty cheap to license a few decades after their release. Plus we know what were considered the best songs of that era.
There really should be more games set in the interwar. Audio recording and radio was in full swing during that era, but it's old enough that most of the hits are public domain (any work for hire and anything by an author that died before 1948). Devs wouldn't have to pay anything except file size for those.

Seriously, how the in fuck can anyone can listen to that fucking terrible emo pop music in a game that's supposed to get your adrenaline running like Burnout. Criterion should've put some actual metal in those games.

Licensed soundtracks were cool and all, but why do you need them anymore? It's incredibly easy to just mute the game soundtrack and play your own music; these days even consoles can do this (PS4 especially has a solid music player that you can control as an overlay without having to leave the game screen).

Constantly streaming music under the game audio with no context to what is going on isn't the same as having an integrated soundtrack that is timed to what you're doing on screen.
The OG Xbox is a good example of how custom soundtracks should work. Games that support them usually played songs for the gameplay segments, and anytime you would restart in things like racing games a different song would play. Burnout games were smart about this as they would stop playing music anytime you get taken out, and would even alternate songs depending where you were in the menu.
Also just playing music over the game is fucking gay and you're a nigger if you do
