Leaving Phantasy Star in Sonic Team's hands was a mistake. Most of the creative force behind the original series split off into what would eventually become part of OverWorks after the main series was finished. PSO was alright, though not really Phantasy Star, and I'm glad we got Skies of Arcadia - but after Blue Burst they should have left the series with the people who actually created it. Naka was a fucking programmer on the originals, it wasn't exactly his baby. Then he ups and leaves Sega and Phantasy Star in the hands of this colossal faggot (Satoshi Sakai) who proceeds to just turn it into a lowest-effort-possible generic animu cash grab to keep funding the development of more shitty Sonic games.

I said this in the other thread that probably got deleted, but for everyone wishing Nova had gotten localized, you didn't miss out on anything. The game was shit. Though advertised as a tale of survival on a horrifically inhospitable planet, the plot changes to "an ancient evil has awakened" within seconds. It also lacked both braver and bouncer despite both having been around for a long time before Nova's release, and as you can see from the screenshot attached to this post, Nova takes the prize for most liberal use of the Vita's blur filter I've ever seen. No, it's not any better in motion, either. The game just looks like shit both on the Vita itself and on a Vita TV. Don't feel bad the west never got Nova. Feel bad that four years from now, Nova will be the only playable version of PSO2 left.

Can confirm; I imported a copy. It's trash. Not for the reasons stated though. The reason why it's trash is because it's a low-effort port with level design that's even worse than PSU's. Consequentially, a lot of the gameplay functions of PSO2 are added - but not justified by the design. For instance - jumping has no purpose. You can, because it's in PSO2 - but there is no reason to. At best, there might be a small rock in the middle of a corridor that you can choose to jump on, or just walk around. What's weird is that there is a multi-level dynamic to capturable mini-bosses - but it uses an entirely separate mechanic that's only used when fighting them.
There's really no variety in enemy types, or stages. You'll be fighting the same shit you fought in PSO2 when it first launched - only this time in hundreds of different remixes of exactly two stages. A featureless desert, and a generic ruin. That's it. And the ruins don't even get unlocked until mid-game. There's no landmarks, or special areas, or anything. The whole thing was probably proceedurally generated from a single template.
There's also no bosses, except for a final boss. At best, you get random encounters & set encounters with these kind of "mini-boss" giant creatures you have to capture and then can summon like Photon Blasts later. But there's only like 4 of them and they get old as fuck very quickly.

Naw, I didn't forget. Had a line or two written up about it, but deleted it because it'd been so long since I played that I couldn't remember if unlocking weapon schematics for the shop was ubiquitous or if there were certain rares that still dropped whole. That was one of the worst parts of PSU which was nearly universally reviled (and punctuated by a big FUCK YOU with having synthesis failure as well as a high risk of weapon breakage when grinding). Why the hell they thought it would be a good idea to reimplement that system when all of the feedback from PSP & PSP2/i indicated that whole weapon drops was highly praised as fixing one of PSU's biggest fuckups - I have no idea.
I wouldn't put that on Sony, but more Tri-Ace just looking at previous PS online games for inspiration and not having a clear understanding of what worked and what didn't. They just wanted to give the game some longevity since there would be no online, and thought pointless grinding that saps the fun out of a game would be just the ticket.

Hmm…. No thanks. While classic Phantasy Stars could easily be recreated in RPG Maker if you know Ruby, RPG Maker in itself is a fairly limited engine. The reason is that you will still have to pull resources from the database which in itself is okay for Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy clones but you have to virtually rewrite the entire engine from scratch if you want full control over your numbers. And I'm not talking about only battle stats and events. I'm talking about rendering objects and effects as well. And at that point I rather code my own JRPG system and databases using better graphical and cross platform software.
It's a long shot but I think I can do much more to evolve the turn-based JRPG formula outside of RPG Maker.

hunter is a pretty good class to start with as it can be used as a decent sub class in a lot of other class builds if you decide to main something else. if you plan on maining hero class don't worry too much about endgame builds and justt focus on meeting hero's unlock requirements. the hero uses the hunter's swords, the gunner's twin mechguns, and techer or force's talis. if you main either of those classes and already use those weapons you won't have to worry too much about rebuilding your equipment after reclassing.

What you need to do is balance items that boost 1 attack stat and items that decrease the dex stat(the best is the right rarity furniture). Your goal is 200 of the attack stat of your choice. If you feed it only weapons you will raise dex too and dex is nearly useless.

there is two builds. full str with switch strike. that makes the jetboots dependant on str instead of tech. This has the added effect of being extremely useful for dual blades and servicible with bouncer PA's, Technique attack is low with this setup.
There is another build. a full dex mag works well with bo/fi or bo/te but those are kinda non tanky builds. The Bo/fi depends too much on not relying on the same PA so you have to do constant rotations in order for tech arts to work.
I wont recommend dex mags because the're only usefull for two classes. bouncer and braver. but shit for classes like hero because hero mag cant get bonuses from dex mags and neither do other classes.
So if you have a full str mag you can definitely level a bouncer just stick to hunter for easier access and tankyness. But other than that aboid the dex mag meme like the plague.

There is more to ranger than you think. You could technically melt down bosses if you know how to use traps to slow down or stun bosses. End attract can outdps other classes if you know how to abuse the bosses hitbox.
Alot of people who use ranger don't use it to its full potential they end up giving up and use the rifles for their gunners.
A little unknown class for it would be ra/su. You get access to techs, type zero techniques and increased mobility and range. Zanverse mixed in with a spread needle and ramegid type zero is one of the most damaging setups at point blank range with point assist in whatever weakpoint you are attacking.

You're currently playing Episode 4, which is now the first story that you encounter. Episode 5 gets even weirder. Episodes 1-3 are usually agreed to be the best in terms of atmosphere and story. The original means of experiencing episodes 1-3 were removed and replaced with a cutscene gallery sort of deal by the wisdom of SEGA. It's a bit fucked but gets the story across without the shortcomings of the matterboard mechanics.

It is against the Gallian constitution. The militia is conscription of all able bodied men and women and can only be legally activated during invasion, this is explained in VC1. Cordelia is already struggling with popularity at the start of VC2 due to her Darscen heritage, so doing something so blatantly illegal as calling up the militia for a civil war would just drive more people to the rebels. Plus it's not really even a high school setting, it's a military academy and if you look at the actual ages of the people in your squad you've got a whole bunch of 20-somethings in the mix. It also doesn't exaggerate the academies warfighting ability to the point an anime would; when Randgriz gets reconquered it's done by the army entirely off screen, as it should be, with the academy merely harassing their flanks.
Honestly the hate against VC2 is exaggerated, mechanically it's better than VC1. Far more options, far more objective and mission variety, far less like a linear puzzle game and far more like an actual TRPG.

I'll agree with everything, but I have to say that VC2's biggest issue is the lack of map variety outside of special missions and that becomes a problem in less than 10 hours in a 30 hour game.
It being the hotbed for all the chinese cartoon tropes didn't help it.
That said, it's still worth playing through at least once.
They thankfully solved that in 3, although they did reuse all of the old maps from 2.

They could use the setting without going full tilt and turning it into a generic high-school anime cliche. Which, the entire franchise is full of generic anime cliches, but it doesn't feel as heavy handed and uninspired as it did in VCII's paint-by-numbers plot. VCIII tried to move the needle back a bit with a more interesting premise, but not nearly enough - and by that point, the formula had gotten too stale. If they had gone a bit more anime Silmido they could have had something really special.

I remember when they raised cap from 75 to 80 they also run an event that was giving you gigantic experience, so you could level up fairly quickly if you was running it 24/7.

They royally fucked up with that endless quest. To answer your question, Sega is giving out bonus quest keys like candy this week. I started the game to be a big robo dude with a gun like in the old games and I'm still a ranger a year and a half later, although I probably appreciate the joy of shooting things a LOT more than other people. The REAL noob killer class is force. You need genuine autism to play force effectively.
I recommend anyone who wants to play physical classes (that is, every single class except force, techer can get by with high striking attack) should play as a cast. The racial stats don't make a huge difference in the long run, but you'll meet the requirements to wear equipment sooner while levelling. You can use robo parts and you can use an android body to wear human clothes which you can pick any skin colour you want for (humans and newmans only get regular skin tones, dewmans only get red/blue oni skin tones with pale skin in between). They get the most fashion options of any race, only downside is the unremovable seam on the neck and the robo-ears.
Just found a really rare bonus area so I did a little dance.

You need to time it for JA and it makes you hover when in air and TPS view isn't zoomed in enough.

The fourth quest in every daily Featured Quest has a boosted EXP rate. The one you want is called "A World Engulfed in Shadows," which is a boss rush that shits out an insane amount of EXP. Plus, it only takes like two minutes with even a mediocre group.
