>blogpost

I just beat PST for the first time ever. I had never been able to play it due to my vision being shit, and after a couple of surgeries improving my eyesight, I figured it was time. Fuck me sideways, that was an amazing game, so many dialogue trees, so many ways to tackle problems, so many side-stories that enhance the plot! All of this done in 1999. What the fuck happened? Why are there no more games this good being made? Anyone saying that games are better nowadays and that we've come a long way, clearly has never played this.

>End of blogpost

Could you guys recommend more awesome CRPGs?

b07b90 No.15174730

I guess it would have to be your first game ever to consider planet escape : tournament amazing.

Heartfelt congrats!

This game is still the best CRPG/playable Novel you´ll ever find.

It´s a shame this cool setting never really took off, even in RPG autist circles.

Never understood why.

I really loved that setting. I want more of it.

Play an actual fucking game instead, like motherfucking Angband, or Nethack if you're a bitch.

>It's only been very recently that I've been seeing these types of bait posts popping up saying things like Planescape isn't a great game.

It's happening with everything these days, Deus Ex, Doom, StarControl.

There was Kojima a few years ago, and now people are comparing Yoko Taro to Kojima.

over balanced anti fun. i tired playing it on several occasions and dropped it each time. the lack of animations and lame classes is probably the cause

<Yoko Taro

>famous for making absolutelly shit, but underrated, games with good writting kinda

>used to have a niche cult following of dedicated fans

>he needed help of another studio to make an actually good game

>only now he's becoming more popular and well know among normalfags

<Kojimbo

>famous for making, kinda overrated, clasic games with good gameplay and good writting

>has always been very popular among normalfags

>he needed help of another writter to make his stories good

>only a small niche of people know this, with everyone else stroking his ego

i'll keep my reservations about his ability to make fun games until Death Stranding comes out it ain't looking good so far but i doubt the man could have managed to get away so much with stealing all the credit for other people's work if the guy didn't actually have some skill to justify his role as director

Back then people didn't realize that telling a pre-determined story in an interactive medium is a total waste of potential.

Dorf Fort, Rimworld, Ultima Online. Emergent gameplay is a much better storyteller than any human. The best "writers" of the future will be determined by the variables they include to facilitate emergent storytelling.

Read a book if you want classic storytelling.

I like the story of Myst. Although the worlds in the game are also part of the story which helps.

I like the atmosphere of Myst.

all of the Goldbox games by SSI, they're top tier tactical D&D

Dark Sun Shattered Lands

Baldur's Gate is generally recommended, I think the second is overrated however

Ultima IV and on

Underrail is decent but drags near the game end

Icewind Dale is a great combat focused game with the story actually being pretty interesting

Just finished Baldur's gate. Is the sequel as comfy as the first game? After I've finished the series, what should I play next?

>Emergent gameplay is a much better storyteller than any human

Nothing can actually do this, however. For example, if the mass effect games were done correctly, 2 and 3 would be entirely different based on how you did 1. You would have to do 1 again differently to see other options. This is too complex and will never happen.

I think it's because it's awkward to play pen and paper with such a setting. As amazing as it is, when you're playing pen and paper with real people you need to reach a consensus. A wildly original, detailed setting like planescape is difficult for players to get into, unless they have the 'tism. The GM would have to spend a long time explaining how things work, also. For instance the "reality is shaped by belief" thing is explained in the computer game through exposition, and it's of course much easier to do in a video game than with just text and speech.

It's easier and more fun to have a familiar setting like classic heroic fantasy or something inspired by pop culture.

And it was written first and foremost as a dnd supplement.

my bet is that he's generally the one who came up with all the batshit crazy ideas, but Fukushima worked as a sort of filter, picking out the good ones

without him Kojima just runs wild and completely overdoes it, and you get stuff like nanomachines enabling Liquid to take direct control of enemy soldiers
