Just bought Age of Empires II HD for twenty bucks, shit because my friends play it every now and then, and got through the tutorial campaign. How's the online multiplayer? Should I git gud before I try it out?

In AoE 2 I liked the Bretons because of the longbowmen, I used to build offensive walled off castles with tons of longbowmen just fucking up anyone going near it. (I played against the PC and they were not very good at using trebuchets).
The Teutons were fun too because you could just make a slow rape trains of Teutonic Knights that pretty much no other unit could go up against except maybe war elephants or hit and run archers (as if the PC would do that).
Didn't play nearly as much AoM since I only found out about the game many years later but that game was fun too. Don't remember too much what deity I played.
I loved using the world editor to give myself geographical advantages, adding a whole bunch of AI on highest difficulty, making all the gold veins and shit nearly infinite and watching the chaos unfold as they fight each other and try to attack my heavily fortified position.

Unrelated, but who the fuck designed the Hittites to have nearly every military upgrade, strongest horse archers (which are already one of the best iron age units a civ can train), and arguably strongest catapults? Fuck, chariot spamming is bad enough but having to deal with heavy catapults and horse archers is a pain in the ass, especially if you have no camels. I really wish somebody makes a spiritual successors to aoe ror and makes it good.

i just see the hero unit as something to do during the lull of the early game. they generally get outshined pretty fast with a few hilarious exceptions.
one of the native factions has a card that gives their chief a ridiculous siege attack if i recall correctly. probably the aztecs, those were my favorite natives by far.

I was just replaying AOE 1 for the hell of it, and my god, I forgot how bad the pathing is in the first game, no formations nothing, moving an army is like moving a bunch of drunks always stepping on each other's toes, I also find myself avoiding catapults since there's no way to make them stop firing, causing tons of allied casualties, I'm growing VERY tired of this game.

I can only speak for 2. The trick to RTS games is speed, since it's real time, not turn based. Here's a general list of things to do:
>start by making a shit ton of workers and houses to increase population/resources fast
>always be scouting so you know what your enemy is doing
>always be building or creating units
>low resources while building is better than saving resources, but getting overrun while building since it takes time to build when you need it NOW
>have a basic rock-paper-scissors strategy of rush, defense, tech
>rush is overrunning a foe with basic soldiers
>defense is walling your foes out since basic soldiers can't knock walls down fast
>tech develops shit that can slice through walls easily
That's the general idea. Play on normal until you get the hang of it, then experiment and branch off from there.

plantations cost a lot of wood in age of empires 3 (gold farms) because wood is brown like niggers and you really just cant purchase a bunch of niggers to work on your farm so theyre represented by the trees their monkey asses live in. you have to chop the trees down to get their lazy asses to work. hahaha NIGGERS
