Vidya sterograms

Not sure if I posted this here before, but I once made some Skyrim stereograms, the type of images that appear to be 3D if you look at them cross-eyed.

These images here are quite large, so you may need to either 1) step back from your monitor or 2) resize your image viewer.

How these work: Each image represents the POV from each respective eye. When you cross your eyes so that the two images converge, you get the same effect of focusing on a physical object with your eyes. While viewing, you can even adjust your focus to objects further in the distance just the same as you would with a physical object. With FPS games (probably any 3d game really, even sidescrollers), these images come out extra clear since the 3D effect mimics real life environments.

How to make your own:

>Find a game that supports freezing time while also allowing you to freemove

>Position yourself in front of an object or scenery that you wish to capture as a sterogram

>The first position will represent your left eye. Take a screencap

>Now move just a tad to the right. This new position will represent your right eye. Don't move too much or this will simulate what it would look like if your eyes were that far apart. When in position, take screencap

>Open both images in an editor, position the first screencap on the left and the second on the right. Save image

Anyone want to take a stab at making your own?

cool images

74ffaf No.15170380

Wondered why games never did this as a 3d solution. Granted the image would be tiny, but still seems like it could be a fun mode.

Try this one cool trick to beat "find the difference between these two pictures" puzzles: turn them into stereograms

probably because it seriously fucks with your eyes

my vision is blurry from looking at just the ones in this thread, getting better very slowly

Those don't work at all. Magic eye pictures are meticulously crafted to belong to the same space while still forming a full effect. Here, you're just slapping two pictures together, calling it a day, and hoping others can do something with it. Nice sentiment for OC creation, but ultimately that's just not how it's done.

4679a9 No.15170602

There's a Magic Eye renderer for Quake 2. It's weird as fuck playing with it on, and the game becomes legitimate 3D, but it's hard to maintain the effect. I couldn't go further than level 2 before the map geometry got so complicated that the effect kept wigging me out.

It just works though. Combine the squares and then focus on the middle image.

What kinds of fucking crack have you been smoking? Magic eye pictures aka autostereograms rely on focusing past the image whereas stereograms rely on focusing in front of them. Autostereograms, particularly random dot "magic eye" images are also computer generated, not "meticulously crafted". Go be an ignorant dumbass elsewhere.

I passively ignore "cross your eyes" when it comes to stereogram instructions. I always put on the thousand yard stare and then adjust my eyes to match any clear shapes. Then the whole image is read as 3D with no depth differences.

ac420f No.15171097

It's possible to merge cross-eye images and display them on a 3DS.

There are also those pseudo VR phone sets, but that's retarded

That will not work with these particular stereograms unless you swap the images. The downside to this is that it's very difficult to converge larger images this way, so you have to resize them down.

Here are some images where you can focus into the distance. Pardon the black bar in the middle. These were the first I ever did with UT2004 and I somehow thought it was a good idea. Crossing your eyes won't work with these, so focus past the image.
