The reason you start playing soccer is because you grandfather was the best goalkeeper in the world, but he went ahead and ruined the career of a Japanese rep, whose son grew bitter against him and who rose through the ranks as a coach until he flat out murders your gramps and ruins what was supposed to become the greatest youth football team ever, but then he's actually been funded by a weapons dealer whose son was killed by a politician who got away scot free, so he disguises his attempts of revenge against the Japanese government by masking a bunch of orphans as aliens and using a stolen meteorite and classified weaponry to make it all more convincing, except he's also just a pawn in the hands of a Brazilian Jew who wants to rule the world with an iron fist by brainwashing people into becoming stronger, also it turns out that your actions will be detrimental to the future of the world as a hundred years from the events of the first three games a military megastate is established but they can't pursue any further goal of space colonization because their decadent society was influenced by your actions, so they send a bunch of mercenaries to humiliate and defeat you, but your great grandson comes back in time and helps you out, which changes the timeline and now they're using the Brazilian Jew's tech and biotech enhancements to create super soldiers in a Nuveau Spanish Empire but incidentally they also become emotionally unstable and prone to dying in their twenties so they use the same time travel tech to try and remove you, your apprentice, soccer and even historical figures like Joan of Arc from the timeline, and THEN real aliens come out anyways and they masquerade an interplanetary soccer tournament as a way for you to get distracted long enough so that a subrace of Alien Armenians can reenact the ultimate revenge on a Star Warsesque people who (and this is actually mentioned in game) literally blew up their home planet and genocided them to the last 16 of their species.

There's multiple timeliness, and there's explicitly infinite parallel worlds, but most of them still get pruned and eradicated out of existence. Except the ones that survive anyhow and become super tough, and threaten to overtake the canon world-lines. Which still come in multiple flavors; the Moon is a huge alien computer in one and in another a Nazi stole the holy grail and set up shop in Romania. And sometimes multiple world-lines coalesce into one and continue on as if nothing happened, except everyone is alive again.

But then you also have the worlds which are separate but not threatening the canon worlds, where the vampires are running around and are plotting to resurrect their primordial daddy, who got taken out by a guy who punched out the moon when it nearly crashed into the Earth. Which also come in a dozen flavors, pretty much too.

And then there's the worlds where everything's already died and humanity has evolved into these weird creatures with weapons growing out of their bones and they go around punching alien gods so hard that entire continents shatter.

Oh yeah and there is a God but he doesn't give a fuck, other gods are just something shit that popped up either out of worship by humans or as avatars of concepts and celestial objects and shit. And they got their shit handed to them 14,000 years ago by an Ayy Lmao, who also destroyed the pre-end of the Ice Age civilizations of humanity who had been making spaceships and shit.

Inazuma is not a series for the sane of mind. Describing any of the games or even sub sections thereof makes one sound absolutely psychotic, but the games are really good - don't pick up the anime, it follows the main story but does shit that kind of ruin the atmosphere of the game, like the fact you can completely skip on finding out that your American-Japanese player had a secret friend that was MERELY PRETENDING to have died, win the tournament and find out in the next game that there's a new character you're supposed to have already met but forgot to do so. All of this across almost 10 years of maps and games and Optional ma pack DLC. Oh and to unlock this story content you need to do hyper autistic rub Goldberg tier sequences of events while dealing with endless waves of enemies that can effortlessly two shot your character.
