Me personally I think you're okay. I'm sure you may not feel that way, and me just complimenting you isn't going to make you feel any better, but I think you can pick something up from this experience. I think you're feeling worse and dissatisfied regarding your skill level is because you're getting to a point where something is missing in you're drawings and you don't exactly know what nor what to do about it. I think its one of two things. Either you need to study a little bit on whatever you're trying to accomplish until you're comfortable doing it or you're in a "rut" which I will explain more of. If you need to study something just go and grind it. Yes it can be a pain in the ass sometimes to deliberately git gud when it's not fun. I'm just starting to learn to draw and I really want to jump to what I want to draw, but if I do not go through some basics required for my subject matter I will either get frustrated and give up or go on ignoring how shit I am. Depending on how long you feel you have been satisfied with your level it can be even harder to feel "bad" at something you're familiar with. For the "rut" I mentioned earlier, you need to realize humans go through cycles with everything. We may be generally slowly improving all the time, but we have bad days where you under perform for a multitude of various reasons. Usually during those times it is a good period to reflect or take a break for a bit. I hope this made some sense. Who knows, I could just be jabbering acting like I know more than I do.

i see mostly anime artists using sai, krita is nice because i like its customizability more and it works on linux (which i prefer using over windows for art) and out of the 3 its the only one that does
that being said, krita crashes a fuckton when switching brushes, trying to use text tools, etc. its autosave function likes to quit working and make you lose 8 hours or so of work if you forgot to save, and the team behind it is really, really shitty with customer assistance / service ,especially on twitter
also you can animate in it which is cool
photoshop is more company based / workforces use, so its not a bad idea to get it under your belt as well but i just never could adapt / get into it.

I tried using Krita. The brushes and effects were amazing and beautiful, I liked that way better than Photoshop's, but it took ages to save anything. After working with Photoshop and Illustrator, I've become a sort of compulsive saver, saving after every two or three major changes/advances in the piece, and it's an automatic action already, don't even notice when I do it anymore, which made Krita an insufferable hell. It was beyond frustrating and nowhere, no one, had a fix for that, I looked it up many times. Then the suprise crashes when you least expected it and… I just gave up. Did you take a JPEG of a PNG and a JPEG and save it as a PNG?
Because PNG will perfectly preserve all the JPEG garbage, losslessly, and saving all those small defects will blow up the file size.

To make that image, I opened the jpeg in paint, cut out the closeup, then opened the png in paint and pasted it in then cropped 'em both and saved as png.
Since I'm new at this, I don't know where the artifacts might've happened in there, unless they're somehow in the raw photoshop file?
Actually, looking closer that's how it looks in photoshop too. Maybe it's my settings somehow?

RGB means red-green-blue.
The 8-bits per channel means you're working with a 24-bit (8-bits for each colour) colour palette, which is 16,777,216 colours.

I wasn't expecting that to be the case, but I'm happy we got to the root of the matter.
There's nothing wrong with flattening out, but that's still something you probably want to do in either the raw format (there's probably at least two layers worth keeping separate, like the entirety of the background and your main subjects) or at least a lossless one. If you use a lossy format for that and ever decide to, say, use a simple fill tool or something that would work perfectly well with clean edges, you'll find yourself doing extra work to get it going right, and there's no going back.
Also, if you do it again, you'll get progressively more artifacts until your work looks like it came straight outta Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff.

"jpg is smaller and png is for solid shapes" isn't a bad rule of thumb for webhosts, who are more concerned about bandwidth and user experience. The people who want to cut down on unnecessary traffic on things like little button graphics and making separate JPG thumbnails and smaller previews for galleries rather than having the user always download the whole image in full quality only to shrink it down in the browser. Maybe they're not interested in 95% of the images in said gallery, and having to do that would be a burden on both the host and the user.
The "png is for solid shapes" comes from the way its compression works. Instead of always describing an images individual pixels or fixed-size blocks, it can describe large contiguous blotches of the same color as "X pixels of color Y", which is extremely compact. Well, there's some more math going on behind the scenes and some other cases where it's very efficient, but that is its forte.
The other half of the subject is what the compression does to the data. Lossless formats will give you exactly what was written, lossy ones will give you a close approximation by smoothing out some extremes and lumping very similar data together to allow it to be represented in a more compact form. If detail is paramount, you can't have that sort of smoothing. If you just wanted a picture, you got a picture.
As an artist, you'd be better served considering how any format serves and restricts you.
Your editor's native format facilitates the most control, and you want to hang onto that. This is especially true if you're working with vector graphics. You don't want to redo all the linework just to get a larger version that's clean if it'd be a three click operation for perfect results on the raws.
