What are your games that you can always go back to? Games that don't get old, don't stop being fun and you can start again as soon as the credits stop. Games that when the industry is shit, you know you can always go back to. I gotta say, for me, it's these classics
Images reflect the platform I own the games for, because why not?

Every few weeks I boot up pokemon crystal on my gbc and replay through the first hour or so, retracing my steps as closely I've done the first (and last several hundred times), and it always manages to make me feel like I'm a kid. Everything about it is amazing, like the sparkly, unique case that makes it LOOK like a magical adventure to a six year old kid
>Try to leave the town
>Get stopped by the girl
>I can't read English very well at this point
>Eventually make it to town
>Pick Cyndaquil
>Misread "Fight" for "Fire" because it's on fire
>Level it up to 10 before the rival fight
>Steamroll him
>Buy two pokeballs
>Catch a level 2 Geodude without harming it
>Train him to level 11, so he gets rock throw
>Clear bellsprout tower
>Shitstomp the flying gym
>Shut off the game
I still have my original file because I never actually save, and just shut it off when I'm done. If I really want to mix things up I grab a Totodile and play until my battery dies, like my dad let me do once. I never actually go all the way to Azalea, as it reminds me of day care and the darned timer and I don't want to be forced to play in 25 minute increments. For anyone wondering, yes, my full game has a level 99 graveler

>The Godfather
The story mode did a great job showing the film's material from the henchmen's perspective, and you have your own stories to go about. Very rich in detail and the gameplay of shooting, looting, and extorting is still so much fun. Lots of little secret cash drops if you're an experienced player, too.
>Pac-Man World
I usually don't go in for "nostalgia" trips because I don't believe games age, I just think if there's fun there is fun. The reason I say this is because this game was the first one I ever played back when it came out, since we weren't a technologically apt family at the time. Still to this day: Great soundtrack, platforming, aesthetic, and an all-around comfy game for any time.
>Crash Bandicoot: Warped
I stuck with platforming on the playstation for a while after that, I guess, because Warped is one of my favourite games ever. The Dingodile boss fight, despite being a little easy nowadays, is in my opinion one of the best crafted boss fights I've ever played. Also the soundtrack is fucking ace. Remaster wasn't that good
>Metal Gear Solid
It was honestly a while before I ever got to playing this. It was only a few years ago in fact but when a friend showed it to me I was enamoured with it. I somehow managed to stay spoiler free for like, 14 years and I was blown away by some of it. The boss fights especially. Excellent all around. I'm a big PS1 guy, and I couldn't believe that such a game could even be possible for when it came out. I only wish I could've played it sooner.
>The Sims
Get all the expansion packs, pop in rosebud;: 12 or so times, have a big house party, fill the house with rugs, light the fireplace, make a community graveyard. I think it's fun to try playing The Sims the way "you're supposed to" maybe once or twice, if you enjoy management sims, but there is much more fun to be had having ridiculous mansions, playing God, and all around just messing with the world. I pick the first one because of the comfy-ass isometric aesthetic and absolutely beautiful soundtrack. Sims 3 is good too if you ignore the EA bullshit and just make psychotic characters.

My introduction to the series was when I bought a used Vita off Amazon that included a 4GB memory card and Touch My katamari for just $200 (This was in 2013 so this was a steal). I know you can set custom music for the radio in the Sims 3 files, so it shouldn't be too hard to swap out the build themes for the classic ones. I think it works better in YotD than in Ripto's Rage because it feels like the context in most of them (save for the skate park) is about the mission at hand.
In YotD you take down a Rhinoc militia installment with a rebellion armed with TNT and manage to liberate a stolen dragon egg.
In Ripto's Rage you catch some crystals to get an orb because Hunter is a sociopath that keeps them from you.
But yeah, comfiest part in the game is where you find the egg in the whale at Evening Lake. That's treasure-behind-the-waterfall tier.

I can play this game for months, years on end and never quite master all of its intricacies and content, and I still like it less than its predecessor since it was much more arcadeish, but no matter when or how, I boot up this game, I have a great time. It's just so fucking good. Half the meta is just exploits and there is 0 bans (at least when the online was active) so playing as 3 boos + DK was a viable strategy and not cheesy at all, especially since some German kid could very well find an exploit with any other character combination the next week and change the entire tier list overnight.
