I dropped it after reaching gran soren and seeing the city was bland as fuck and the story didn't get any better. What's the hook for you guys? I fully accept it just might not be for me but is it worth sticking out the shit story for the later on gameplay or is what I saw pretty much it? My bad I meant to say that this was my first hard mode playthrough in the op on top of really enjoying the music but I got a little ahead of myself and posted early. Im really enjoying hard mode and the amount of gold the enemies drop from time to time, it's also made some of the tougher enemies in the game more enjoyable to fight too.

OPs veiled attempt at a weak discussion thread I bought this game twice I know, colour me a fucking idiot, first after it came out for my ps3 and then I got the port when it came out on pc because I'd lost the ps3 box somewhere and anons convinced me to get it. The change in fps was definitely worth it but that didn't affect how I felt in the long run too much. The Repetitive soundbytes, the music that plays over and over a-fucking-gain just creates a kind of weak experience in all honesty. Yea, the gameplay is fucking great, but in games I autistically focus in on music and sounds, and whilst the music and sounds are generally good, the Repetition is not. It's fucking boring, and seriously, the soundbytes are just endless. Who wants to enjoy groundhog day but in a videogame format? I don't know how anyone can fucking complete it with that stupid shit going on in it. Also the erratic saving basically means that if you go too far off the beaten path to do some exploring you could lose all that time spent if some lame asshole kills you.

I bought it five times Once the original DD on Xbox360, once the Dark Arisen version, another Xbox360 version after my disk got fucked by a faulty console, pawned off that console, once Dark Arisen on my PS3, and then once on PC. On the bright side none of those copies were bought at full price.

The game has a ton of great things going for it as well as a slew of problems. It's a flawed gem. If you like the good parts and aren't annoyed by the not-so-good parts, you'll love the game.

How the hell do I get my Mage pawn to spend more time casting High Grapnel? Even if I take off every spell other than Grapnel, the dumb bitch just auto attacks. I tried various combinations of Scather, Utillitarian and Challenger to no effect. I just want the dumb bitch to spam Grapnel on big mobs since it's stupid strong when combined with Torpor. At least she casts Spellscreen fairly reliably, god damn I love that spell.

Be a mage yourself and spam grapnel. Are you a class that depends on auto-attacks alot? Pawns seem programmed to mirror your playstyle and thats why people recommend you make a pawn that is the same class as you rather one that compliments yours. I know at the very least, there's a value stored for how often a pawn will use abilities and it seems in your case that value is low.

Is it normal for pawns to be so fucking stupid? None of my pawns ever seem to use the best spells for any given situation. Case in point, a griffin - I KNOW that my main pawn has High Ingle, Fire Affinity and Comestion and another one has High Ingle, so when we get attacked by a griffin what do they do? My main pawn casts dark boon and starts warming up Anodyne and my other rando mage pawn starts spamming High Levin.

I feel like I'm leading around a group of idiot children.

The way pawns work is they randomly select actions they can take(casting different spells in this case). The more knowledgeable a pawn is about a foe, the more likely they'll choose a spell the enemy is weak to and less likely they'll choose a bad action, to the point that they will always choose effective magic. For pawns to gain knowledge against a foe, you have to allow them to witness various actions by or against that foe as well as killing a certain number of them. There is a wiki that lists all these actions and the number of kills you need. Knowledge is rated out of 3 stars and you can check your own pawns knowledge in their status. You can also check pawns you are recruiting if you happen to need them for a certain enemy type.

The pawn training meme is an old one that never quite died but it was pretty debunked playing PC and fucking around with cheat engine. It seems to work to some extent though. Pawns seem to pick up how to avoid attacks with Exodus Slash so I'm guessing there's flags for specific skills that they pick up.

As for that hidden ability use value, it doesn't really seem to do anything. I remember fucking around with it on PS3 save editing and couldn't really notice a difference. A filled out beastiary seems to be the best things for pawns to not be fucking stupid but the only people with one of those are: save editors, autists, people with extremely popular pawns or people compounding their pawn knowledge from save to save

The difference between a knowledgeable pawn with the right inclinations and an ignorant pawn is night and day. Hired a Strider pawn once that would jump up on any large monster and start stabbing it to death, and he'd continue to do so relentlessly. That pawn was able to solo a golem in less than a minute. And I've seen pawns that try to use fire against Drakes, Sorcerers that climb and Rangers that don't use their bows.

I was playing as a strider, and had a mage pawn that, even though I went full autist with the "personality potions" to make so she stayed in the backline, saw me climbing big monsters and eventually started climbing them too and getting OHKO.

My suggestion? Make it so your pawn has the same class as yours, and rotate the other two pawns so they have fresh personality states and won't try to do retarded things.

I played the whole game pirated without a connection and never noticed an impact from a system like that. The fights just happened naturally.

I never used generics as healers because I had one for my main pawn, and I never used them as sorcerers either because sorcerer's spells are too slow for pawns not to cancel them for no reason or get hit.

You can have a healslut. Just make her a mage and buy her Medicant/Utilitarian elixirs and she'll spend all her time buffing and healing. Having inclinations set properly will help mitigate your pawn doing stuff you don't want it to do.

Dragons Dogma is casual as fuck you don't need any planning or big strategies, unless you try stupid shit like going full melee to caster, you won't run into any problems. Just fucking stock up on healing items that are actually better than healers since they have no instant and heal actual lost HP and save before encounters then the game is easy as fuck.

To stop the endless cycle your character kill himself once he attains the position of Seneschal. By doing so there is no god to control humanity's will nor a Dragon to seek more Arisen. Now humanity must continue to exists following their own will, what will happen to the world is uncertain as you just fucked up the rules of reality, but it seems your character was the only one with big enough balls to erase himself form existence to end the cycle. As you know, pawn become more and more similar to their Arisen as time passes. Seems that whatever your character did accelerated the process and your pawn became a full fleshed human by becoming you.

Game is really amazing, and I put almost 200 hours onto it. If Crapcom hadn't screwed the game development, we would have already the game but with multiplayer aspects, and more polished content. So even with the Dark Arisen content, the game is still incomplete. And even with its succes, it doesnt looks like Crapcom will release a DD2 in the not very far future….Sad.

It's stat based, that's why is best to focus on either physical OR magical vocations. Unless you're going for Mystic Knight or Magick Archer. Outside of BBI, the only enemy that should have a high damage threshold is the drake in Devilfire. If you want to kill it at low lvls, just buy some periapts.

So I tried the training thing. Swapped to Mage (from Strider) and ran around casting Grapnel on undeads two nights in a row. Then I went and killed stuff in the Everfall as Strider and found out that my Mage pawn was now casting Grapnel on undead every now and then, but she still didn't cast it on anything else.
