Terraria or Starbound are better for that, in my opinion. Minecraft is fun, but even though it allows for 3D construction there's not a whole lot one can do to furnish things. Most you can do is just decorate the surfaces. Terraria and Starbound have a huge number of blocks/backgrounds as well as decorative furnishings and the like.

I suck so much at designing homes(and characters), in every game I just use premade ones. Or edit them a little bit

Not that I want to defend minecraft, but I don't understand how a game being grid-based makes it impossible to walk about in, or how anything within a game at all would restrict your ability to play pretend.
Also if you want a frist person game where you can just dump a bunch of stuff around why not just cut the middle man and do it in blender or something? Any first person game with room editing and no grids is going to be more tedious to play than just making it from scratch yourself.

The purpose is to aid visualization and Minecraft would abstract from that too much.
>why not just cut the middle man and do it in blender or something?
I figured a game would have less of a learning curve.

There's Sketchup, about anyone can use it and provides a camera mode where you walk around first person. There's Blockscape but it's far from finished, if ever, but it allows more minute detail.

You can use an engine like unreal4 or unity and make rooms with premade assets. That's pretty fun and also kinda productive.

everything will be a square, but having the ability to use tiny squares makes it the ultimate home building game. You can create literally anything non-functional and bigger than one inch with enough autism.

Wait, WTF, I could swear I emededded a video.
Here's the mod I was talking about, it lets you "carve out" little blocks from every minecraft block, and also use them individually to build stuff(you don't have to remove/place them one by one, there's various building tools, it's almost as good as a voxel editing software). This means you can sculpture right about anything if you've enought time and autism to invest.
