I never understood how people keep calling it strategy RPGs over tactical RPGs.

Try Tactics Ogre, Disgaea or Luminous Arc, where the latter has shit story but okay gameplay.

There's also Stella Glow on the 3DS if you want something more modern. It's okay.

What do you mean by slow? If you're talking about the animations and speed of combat then just play it on an emulator and bump up the speed to 4x or whatever you like. If you mean the battles lasting too long then you're a big gay, tactics orge and FFT has nice decently long battles that makes planning every move fun and stragetic, as it should be

Langrisser is good and pretty quick. Preparing for battle can take awhile, though, since you have decide what kind of troops and how many of them your characters hire.

Battle for Wesnoth is very fast. Years of refinement has made the FOSS community realize nobody wants to deal with bullshit, they just want the game to do what they tell it to.

I honestly struggled with getting into Front Mission because after a while you get into crazy long battles where you can get completely screwed by RNG and it's all beyond your control for the most part.

You gotta spam chaff everywhere and grind that dodge stat. Also invest in melee and missiles since those are a lot more likely to take out limbs.

Front Mission isn't even an RPG, there is no character growth. You just buy and upgrade your mechs.

Your characters gain experience in weapon types as they use them, have levels, and learn skills. You are confused.

Disgaea strategy rpg?! The only strategy on Disgaea is grinding to a stupidly high level, learn what witch specialist do what, get a lot of them, get the best gear, rape through all with only one stupidly ultra overpowered char… A strategy RPG is one such as Radiant dawn where you have to be mindfull of enemy reach, look for best location to bottleneck, be aware of weapon durability, be aware of weapon triangle, protect weak but important chars that don't take the front but are important for your army, decide who needs xp, have to think before buying because the money is very limited, decides who goes with who for better support, decide who actually goes into each battle because of the skills needed…

It's the complete opposite

The further you go in the easier the game becomes as your specialized mech pilots get 99 levels in short before half the game is over and can shred any enemy unit in a single turn.

Melee is a noob trap as it starts out awful and stays awful while long ranged is busted as you can swipe torsos from miles away.

You don't really need any advanced tactics until the second campaign where you are always outnumbered and out gunned

In Disgaea all you need to do is throw enemies on top of each other to double their levels and kill them to reap the experience to build levels up like crazy and cheese the game.

You do know that Disgaea usually has several endings and only the easiest ending can be achieved without ridiculous grinding right?

I have Tactics Ogre on PSP but never got past chapter 1 because I get bored of it everytime, does it get better? I just find it so slow since you have so many units and it takes like 2/3 turns for characters to even reach the enemies.

Until certain level that is possible but without staticians it will take a huge amount of time to become the ultimate being. Only with 65k staticians you can kill only one lv 9999 char and reach i think it was lv 6000 from lv 1 in one go but it will take a huge amount o time to get all those staticians anyway with those stupidly high amount of staticians then yes you can go to prinny god for example on DS1 and do a couple of runs to be able to reincarnate and do again…and again to get a insane amount of bonus points…It is beautiful when you get to that level I agree but being stupidly super powerful is not strategically challenging imo

Huffman Island is the game's setting
