On one hand I like the idea of Octarians finally breaking free and re-assessing some free will to make it to Inkopolis on their own to start a new life. It seems more like it was rushed, but at the same time they wanted to be more generous with the hero weapons this time around, and that unfortunately morphed into the god awful mess of beat these 27 stages 9 times each, and I could be wrong but the weapon selection seems pretty bad for introductory stages past world 2.

The campaign (aside from the fact now stages are DESIGNED for charger range, jesus christ fuck those stages) is way more enjoyable with just the hero shot.

They're good for the same reason that a mouse or a trackball are good. With skill and practice, you can very quickly make a specific motion to get exactly the angle of turn that you want. We've had this discussion tons of times. If playing without motion works for you, do it however you like, but the gyro controls are objectively more precise and allow for far greater control in your motion if you have the skill for it. Motion is objectively better, and I'd recommend getting used to it.

Nintendo actually managed to do it right this time. Try playing ranked with motion controls off. You'll get slaughtered. It takes some getting used to, but you can get accuracy and precision comparable to a mouse and keyboard once you get it.

I've never spent time there, but that's exactly why I would never go there. Even in the last Splatoon thread, there was discussion of cars, music, politics, and occasionally about playing the game, and it was pretty fun to follow the thread.

About the game, how do I more effectively use charger weapons? They're easily what I'm worst at next to rollers/brushes. Whenever there's a Salmon run and I get a scope, I almost know I'll let everyone down by usually dying through stupid means, or fucking missing every shot because the steelhead I twitched.

lube up and git gud. In general, remember that chargers can hold a charge while you're a squid 1sec default, 5sec for the fire hose, bamboozler doesn't hold one and at full charge ink a great path for you. Ninja Squid comes to mind to quickly relocate.

If you have a scope, keep the zoom in mind and keep your distance. Imo scopes suck, but they do add a bit more range than their unscoped counterparts.

For salmon run, the distance part is the most important thing. Get used to the range your weapon has. Also stay behind your team. Chances are you're better off not even collecting eggs, if there are any reasonable targets. Look at where enemies are so you don't get attacked while zoomed. You do need some protection from your team when you're focusing on bosses.

As for the actual aiming, well… git gut. I use max sensitivity for both motion and stick control and it helps.

Call me a scrub as much as you want but I never could fucking stomach dual stick aiming in FPS games. I always played keyboard and mouse with FPS games when I could up until Xbox came out. Granted dual sticks were better than whatever the fuck Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, and Metroid Prime had at the time. I was so trained to fine tuning my aiming precisely and quickly while moving that console shooters became my least favorite genre of last gen.

Splatoon and motion controls for me were a blessing because they combined analog movement of 3D platformers with precise mouse aiming I was accustomed to with keyboard and mouse. I wanted to get into Wii FPS games more because of the motion aiming but never could find the games.

To me gyro aiming feels natural and responsive. And I'm much more natural with gyro aiming on than off. Even with chargers. One thing I learned to do with chargers while tubing is hold charge, snap-aim (keeping the laser at my feet then quickly look at the target before they react), and shoot. If the target splats, I hit. If I missed, then I get the hell out or die. I have shit gear, but it's a strategy that aside from laser baiting I can't do with stick.

If anything, grind out as many abilities on as many pieces of gear as you can. Later on, you can scrub them for chunks or get more chunks from Salmon Run. After you figure out the game better, you can worry about gear abilities. Turf War and low level ranked are nothing, and nobody has good gear anyway. Pearl herself owns a fleet of helicopters, and formerly owned a luxury yacht. Also Marina owns a motorcycle if I recall correctly. Never understood plebs complaining about lack of vertical stick, it's like they didn't bother to get used to it. The reason horizontal is there is for long movements and the lack of the need to constantly keep re-centering as you turn into yourself.
