Its not even the fixed, latest gitgud build of pizza; we still get client-side microcrashes. That's when everything on your screen seems to freeze and be unable to update to accurately display what is happening. There's just a coder drought in general because SS13 is extreme spaghetti.

I stopped playing on the CM Serb after that. It's usually a cycle, I play 2-3 games and as soon as they perceive that I'm "stepping out of line," they go full retard with their rules and I'm reminded why I stopped playing in the first place. It's ironic since on their forums they say that the rules men what they mean and that twisting them around to fit you excuse will not be tolerated but mods and admins alike sure as hell love twisting their own rules around.

It's a shame it's the only one around and since they won't release their code anytime soon there won't be another CM Serb until the game itself dies. There was a WWII around that was pretty but it went away and wasn't as populated as it should have been, even though it was super fun.

On a side note about CM Serb, about a year ago someone managed to hack/get into one of the admin's account and stole a piece of their code and they went full damage control, it was a huge deal apparently. It was hilarious to read about what happened, shame they didn't steal the entire code, 8/v/ could have run a nicer CM without all the faggotry and kike tier rules. Speaking of rules as well here's one of them that is open-ended as fuck.

I got into SS13 real late, but I always heard about lizard racism and the wikis I read even had notes about lizards not being people, or getting shafted by higher-ups just for being lizards. When I actually got to playing, nobody even bothered the lizards about anything. Nobody would join in on anti-lizard sentiment, lizards were allowed free reign to behave like any other, and even nude liggers who just roamed the halls for hours on end wouldn't receive any ire. If I can, I will also include a day/night cycle so that cave-adapted dwarves who want to practice their outdoor skills can still go outside without being nauseated by the sun. Alcohol dependence is planned, with potency of the ingredients determining how much alcohol is in a particular brew.

I also want to have a skill system in place so that the job you pick when you join affects what you can do better than other jobs can. I plan to have an activity-based skill gain system, after which I can begin work on strange moods since I will then have a variable that can max the skill tied to whatever artifact is created.

While it would be great to have folks who can help me code all this, I will do it by myself if I have to, even in my limited experience with BYOND.

If you've never worked with Byond before, I'm going to tell you you're biting off way more than you can chew. It'll take weeks, months to get it all working correctly and there's a good chance you'll burn out.

I've worked with Byond before, and I know how I want to do most of the things I intend to do. Back when Sierra was hosting a server, I was working on making a dwarf subrace. I originally was coding it as its own race, but making it a subrace turned out to be way less of a hassle. I planned for it to be a subrace you could become by overindulging in alcohol to the point you develop cirrhosis, and surviving until the disease progresses to a new final stage, curing itself and engorging your liver. The subrace would be granting you increased toughness, knockdown resistance, resistance to damage from cold and passive health regeneration from brute, burn, and toxin but leaving you with a dependency on alcohol for your own survival and a weakness to damage from excessive heat (such as being set on fire)

Believe it or not, I could actually make some sense of the spaghetti code.

It would have been better if I could run a local of my codebase for testing so that Sierra didnt have to do it. Honestly, I burned myself out trying to make it possible in his fork of Zaers' codebase already, but I played on various baycode servers and saw that it handles Zlevels almost exactly like dorf fort and my interest was renewed. I still have my old subrace code on github, I just need to sift through my fork of baycode and figure out how they handle organs and if porting will be copypasta simple or if I need to rewrite it. I hope, if anything, that the file structuring makes more sense in Baycode rather than being just as strung out and scattered as pizzacode. Not that I can't work with spaghetti code, I just prefer to not have to.

The good news is that species are pretty easy to understand in terms of file structure. Baycode seems decently well-organized, all things considered. I already have Dwarves and their monkeyfied equivalent, gnomes, coded into the species. Now I just need sprites for them, for proof of concept if nothing else.

This is far too restrictive. If Greyshirt McShitface says "Hey BITCH open up EVA for me I'mma go to space" I feel fully justified in saying "Do you have clearance? Extra-vehicular activity is an extremely dangerous task and should only be undertaken by qualified crewmembers."

But if a tator guns down three people and says "lol borg uncuff me and get me my stuff", you shouldn't have to give him free reign until other humans step in. Your mind is defined by your laws, yes, but you aren't roleplaying a retarded child. You can make logical conclusions and decide not to let the violent psychopath have free run of the station and access to all his unsearched bags because you can make a reasonable conclusion about what contraband he might still have and what he's going to do with it.

All of these things are subjective, of course and you can't refuse to let hurt people into medbay because there are saws in there, or come up with extravagant reasons for possible human harm. But clearly dangerous people or situations you should be able to act on. The whole point of the laws is that they're imperfect and impossible for even a robot to predict because the interpretations are endless. Saying all of this is against the rules strips out half of the roleplaying possibility from silicons, because instead of having to make choices and forcing people to roleplay with you to manipulate your laws, you just do whatever they want unless the tator is actively murderboning because you don't want to be banned.
