So any decent shooters that allow you to use the mouse as a movement/fire input? I've tried Shikhondo, Crimson Clover, and a few others - but none of them let you control like that from what I've seen. The only ones I've got which do are Raptor: Call of the Shadows which I already played a ton of as a kid - and Deep Space Waifu.

A scoring system you can't ignore would be something like rank in Raizing games where you have to regularly suicide and keep up your medal chain to keep getting new extends so you can manage the rank before it gets out of hand. At no point are you required to score to survive in Ikaruga. Like, novice players won't be able to chain the stage 2 intro at all, but they can pull through it just fine.

You're thinking of Silvergun. In Ikaruga you can safely ignore the scoring system if all you care about is a 1cc. Also, any shmup with elaborate scoring could be considered a puzzle game, since you have to plan out the 'puzzle' of how to make your score better. Calling a shmup a puzzler isn't really a valid criticism, tbf.

>red turrets are pretty dumb and you can sit in these "lanes", hard to describe but basically, since they're so retarded and rotate in a static way, you have plenty of safe spots despite being flooded with garbage information of a lot of red bullets
>after that you have to deal with the huge blue purple ring and + and x shot pattern that is almost stealthy with tons of missiles shat out for no reason
>luckily its almost ez once you got it down and time around the +x shot pattern and fuck around with the homing blue purple rings to be smaller hitboxes
>after dealing with all that garbage you have to deal with the "last" screen that has a bunch of turrets that pop up which you can hover over (mind the screen moving up), along with the x shooting turrets down the middle of the screen
>you can kill the back turrets without touching the laser cannons
>the right side is easier to kill than the left side due to the spiral-like angle of the spread during it's "1st" phase
>the shots down the middle switch back and forth every * shots, i'm assuming it affects every other bullets so it deviates between two angles back and forth
>killing the laser spawns more shit and also aggros the fucking back turrets (what the fuck)
>back turrets can be activated by destroying one part
>your ship is so small you can actually fit right next to the hitbox of the first spread angle shot and the hueg laser at the left and not get hit, not hard to line up as well with a few lines you can line up with.
>all bosses actually lose health over time, so you could spend all day trying to kill the back turrets and then try to feel the health of the laser turrets
>then the game goes full retarded once the back turrets are activated AND you destroy the head?turret part thats been shooting the red shots, except you have to make sure you have enough space since its kinda hard with a laser shooting on left/right

Ubuntu flavors are the easiest way to get into loonix or being comfortable using it because there are tons of documentation and utilities as well as better support.
However if you want to use lanix because you believe in principles, you will want to move out of Ubuntu and all main distros once you get enough knowledge.
Xubuntu is great for minimal resource usage while maintaining good, clean looks, and the ubuntu support, i like it a lot because i love minimalism, i do not know how proficient you are at computers but let me suggest you an easy way to get the real minimalist xubuntu experience:
Download and install Xubuntu using

It is a ready to install version of Xubuntu stripped of all the bloat they usually include as part of the desktop package, well actually it is fully stripped of everything, as all you have is the desktop environment installed.
Once you get into the desktop you can proceed to build over it to your heart's content, usually installing a file manager, archive manager, 7zip and rar support, ALSA or pulse audio, web browser, and media players of your choice is what you do as first steps. Then just basically add or delete as needed.
