How do you force yourself to focus on completing one single game without getting bored? How to force yourself to get good at it too, without dropping it?

91ebbe No.15069554

I don't play video games.

e1049e No.15069560

>>15069543

Well anon, first you must figure out, why do you want to finish the game, if you don't have any reasons, then you are better off dropping it and playing something else. is there any game you have in mind, or is it a general question?

Because i want to pretend i actually have hobby that i enjoy and want to get into that. Its different with games requiring completing and tactical thought. Like Baldur's Gate or Planescape Torment.

I can play quake world all day as long as servers are populated, but i have to force myself to finish rpgs.

I also have workout schedule that i don't want to interrupt with video games, and i even consider stopping working out at all to have more time to play video games.

If you don;t like RPGs, just play other games like racing, puzzles, fps, mmos or whatever. Or pick some other hobby, like playing an instrument, or drawing, or miniature kits, like this https://www.artesanialatina.net/en/advanced/430-naval-modeling-san-juan-galleon-wooden-model.html there are cheaper ones as well, if you are new, try plastic ones, since they are not a huge money investment

Sorry anon. I have ADD but it is nowhere near that bad. If a game grabs me it grabs me. I enjoy completing it. If it doesn't grab me enough to complete it then it doesn't. Maybe you just don't like games that much.

79c3f8 No.15069679

I like to start with games I enjoy enough to continue playing in the first place. Shitposting aside, even good games have some dips in quality or slogs. Best way to power through is trying to understand the game's level progression and pushing yourself to make it through that one bad part. Don't focus on the finish, just making it past that bad spot alone.

>How do you force yourself to focus on completing one single game without getting bored?

If you are "forcing" yourself to complete a game it means that the game you are playing isn't that good to begin with, same with "getting good at it" if there's no enjoyment on your part you shouldn't even try, it's escapism, entertainment, not a fucking job.

I don't. Video games are a hobby, so if I'm having fun, I keep coming back. If it tickles my autism enough, I'll get gud naturally or by doing some extra-gaming research or think things through in notes or a spreadsheet.

In fact, my gaming spreadsheet has a whole column dedicated to "BEAT" games, and if I've made it through your game that's a good sign of quality.

meditation is also kick ass

a3866b No.15070198

Depression kills your motivation to start anything, or finish it if you overcome the hurdle of starting it in the first place. To combat depression, do as much as you can that isn't related to the source of your misery. Work out, study, go hiking, bake cookies, anything that will give you a positive memory for that day. You should do this as often as you can. When depression gets serious, you'll be down to just sleeping and drinking water in your free time. It takes exponentially more willpower to unfuck yourself from that state.

I finish games if they don't irritate me by making a wasteland of COLLECT THE WIDGETS TO ADVANCE THE PLOT NOW session right before the endgame.

The last game I played was Subnautica. About 30 hours back in Jaunary/February. I still read /v/ sometimes to see what's going on in a hobby I used to be excited about but the truth is I don't think anything will rekindle the childhood passion I had for games. I can't identify any games on the horizon that interest me, but I keep hoping. I'm thinking about getting into flight sims with a HMD, but even then, doing FPV on a RC plane seems way more interesting to me.

Choose a game that doesn't suck and it'll draw you in and you won't want to play anything else until you've played it through. If you get bored with a game, it's not entertaining you, it's not doing the one thing that a game is supposed to do.

Is this bait or do you genuinely have autism? If you are getting bored by a game, then it means it's boring, so why force yourself to keep playing it? You are not getting paid to play games, it won't improve your health and it won't get you laid. Do you just want to fit in with all the other people who agree that the game is the best game ever? Fuck that. I think Ocarina of Time is boring and I haven't beaten it to this day and probably never will.

Life is too short to waste it on entertainment that doesn't entertain you. Maybe some genre like RPG just isn't your cup of tea, nothing wrong with that. If you only care about the story just go watch the cutscenes on YouTube or something and save yourself the time. The same goes for completionism like trying to get 100% of all items, quests, unlocks, whatever, it's just pointless padding.

Well anon, for me I like to find some sort of glitch or dev mistake to make me have some sort of advantage on the game. For example I am replaying FE Awakening, only played at launch but didn't have anything better to do and thought What the hell and hitted again with all the dlcs this time using a cia file. Then i discovered that Galeforce + armstrift + Lifetaker are completely broken, any character that can have at least 2 of these skills should not be used by someone looking for a challenge but I want is to bend the rules of the game, I just want to break stuff, then I learned that on one of the dlcs all the enemies are all op and they swarm you, you don't even need to move from the place, the major problem are the sages, then i thought: What if i get luck till 50 points at least with crom pairing +armsthrift +a forged superior jolt+ lifetaker+limit breaker+ allstats+2, put the game to skip everything, wouldn't I be able to cap everything on a char in a matter of minutes? Yes i could… And so i start to research chars who could give or reclass to get said skills and mate them and all to make even more broken kids…Been doing shit for +30 hours now without ending because the ending is completely pointless since i Can 1hk the last boss with at least 6 different chars by now… But I had my fun…

If you're bored then stop playing the game, delete the fucker and move on to something that can hold your attention and if nothing can then gaming isn't for you, something more practical with appreciable results that pays might be more your thing.
