Can we talk about how this one fucking meme managed to ruin Doom? It started off fairly innocent, Doom, but when it comes down to it, it wasnt a good representation of what Doomguy was, it was simply him under the effects of a berserker pack. You can see it in the comics and in game that Doomguy was actually calm and collected despite what he was going through, being a silent badass. Then the normalfags who never even played the original saw this panel and the meme and starting making Doomguy out as a rampaging over the top angry tryhard, hence that edgy shitfest that was Brutal Doom getting so popular despite being a direct downgrade of the original adding only gore and SO COOL killing animations while removing all the difficulty and tension of the original. Then of course Bethesda being the uncreative jews they are capitalized off the attention Brutal Doom got to make NuDoom and made a shitton of money off of it from fucking normalfags and redditors who either didnt play the original or have enough jewcock in their asses to have the gall to say that it captures the spirit of the original. Also fuck everyone on this board who was hyped for that bullshit. You should've had the good sense to realize that anything made by Bethesda was going to be shit but you were to focused on "FLYING REVENANTS XD" to pull your head out of your ass long enough to see that there was no chance in hell it was going to be good.

NuDoom is a fun game that's fast-paced, has great weapon variety, directly incentivizes the player for being creative, and actually has a pretty good story that in no way slows down the action. Very few games nowadays and even in the past have a fairly large array of weapons that are all unique. Even fewer games can get the player to switch between them as naturally as you do in NuDoom. Personally, I'm a guy that will find one weapon he likes and use that for the rest of the game. I couldn't do that in NuDoom and the game is designed so deeply around variety in weapon usage that it didn't just force me to be creative it made me want to be creative.
/v/ hates on the game because they think it's a reboot (it's not), because they hate Bethesda (maybe rightfully so), and because /v/ likes to hate things that are popular and good.
If half of you shitters that complain to no end about NuDoom actually pirated the fucking thing and gave it 20 minutes of your time you'd realize how wrong you've been this whole time and hopefully feel a little shame for being the purposefully contrarian mooks you are.

I haven't actually played it, I've just watched gameplay videos because I'm too lazy and not really interested enough to go pirate it
But from what I've seen, I think the gameplay is good, it feels and looks like Doom, I think that overall it seems to be a pretty fun, fast-paced game with replayability, which is what Doom should be. I think glory kills are the dumbest shit ever and it's like, why are these even in the game? The environments are generic and uninspired as well. I think the snapmap feature sucks major cock. Multiplayer looks like your standard classic gameplay from what I've seen, no issues there.
Honestly if Doom Eternal goes all the way with the Hell on Earth aesthetic I might end up pirating it.
56682c No.15056768
>>15056719
I watched a couple gameplay videos before playing it too and I definitely agree that glory kills look boring as fuck. The animations are ok but they repeat themselves so many times that they lose all novelty. When you're actually playing though glory kills are like a potential earned break in the action. Sometimes you really need a half second to take a rest from the action or to evaluate what your next move is gonna be. In other games you would go find cover, in NuDoom you glory kill a demon or two.
Totally agree with you on the multiplayer and snapmap. Multiplayer is the most fucking boring thing in existence and snapmap has some really stupid bugs that ruin the experience (e.g. weapon functionality is slightly different between the campaign and in snapmaps and your custom hotkeys don't carry over between different custom maps).

The story works perfectly fine as a direct sequel to doom 64 and doesn't just throw everything out the window like shitty doom 3.

There's also other details that don't mesh, like how demons in the classic games had actual artificial tech grafted on to them, but in nuDoom all the normal demons just have natural biological mechanisms. The only ones with cyborg bits are the ones the UAC cult got their hands on. They cyber demon is only a cyber demon because some UAC tech nerds grafted a gun to its arm and a battery to its chest. Plus, if it really was thousands of years in the future of classic Doom, humanity should have been much more advanced than "we've only put one brain in a robot body, and the only other existing cyborg suffers constant extreme pain from it." - Some Faggot

You can only say this because you determine variety in Doom through the obvious different approaches Sandersen levels had because of how reliant they were on higher-level concepts and gimmickry. As in, even a pleb could tell for levels in Doom II that "this is the X level" because of how more palpable the gameplay themes are for each Sandersen level.
That said, that does not make them necessarily good. You forgo enemy/item placement and their relation to the level layout, the bread and butter to Doom level design, in favor of interesting and more stand-out memorable ideas, regardless of whether they were executed as well as they could. "Cool concept but mediocre execution" would suit a lot of levels in Doom 2. They had cool ideas, but they didn't have the detail and refinement in enemy encounter design (nor texturing) which Romero had. The end result being that though Sandersen levels stand out more, Romero levels are much more pleasant to play through.

Most of Doom 2 feels like a haze to me while most of Doom 1 is pretty vivid in my mind. I can't argue against the new guns. The super shotgun is iconic for good reason. The new enemies are a mixed bag though.
I can't quite put my finger on it but in doom 2, I feel like the levels encouraged very samey tactics. Either stop and pop or circlestrafe for day. Just about every mancubus encounter happened in some big open space where you just circle around a bunch of them.

>The Courtyard/The Suburbs
The problem with these maps is that there's no signposting going on in order to mitigate the risk of the player going off the beaten track (aside from giant blinking arrows on the floor, which is absolutely cheating), yet the progression itself is entirely linear. The non-linearity in structure would have worked better if there was a single door which required all three keys which you could find in any order you like. Instead progression is still gated on a frequent color basis, so instead of exploring until you think you got everything, you'll find yourself thinking "where do I go now" a lot.
Combat-wise these giant levels aren't suited to how Doom's combat is designed. The challenge comes from the relation between enemy placement and level layout, but if the level is so big that you can effortlessly circlestrafe around enemies, plink them from afar, or dodge their shit with ease, then that's no fun. Sometimes he tries to break this up by going into slaughterwad territory and spawning loads of enemies at once while giving you a BFG and a power-up, but these moments are often without substance once you've been through them a few times throughout other levels in the campaign.
>Barrels o' Fun
It's a level completely diverted from the typical Doom formula and one which would have been a prime candidate for a secret level, but unlike something like Dead Simple the combat setpieces are bollocks. It starts off by trying to be an obstacle course even though Doom's collision systems make weaving through barrels incredibly finnicky. Moreover, once you realize the solution to running forward, going through the first two 'barrel runs' is becomes busy work. Now, if you had Pinkies to worry about while trying to weave around barrels…
This level also shows what happens when you design your level around pistol starts but completely try to railroad the experience. Most people will, after triggering the walls on the other side of the main room with the Imps on them, run away to the bottom center to get away from the five(+one) Mancubi. And once you get back, the place is absolutely SWARMING with Lost Souls, and enemy infighting takes absolutely forever. However, the 'correct solution' is to blow up the Imps and Barons on one side prematurely with the barrels, then to run over and hit the switch and trigger the elevator behind the Mancubi, and then deactivate the wall so you can kill all Pinkies with your Berserk. What is creativity on part of the player even? This is unlike Tricks and Traps where you could tackle the rooms in any given order and the problems that arose from opening them in certain orders were largely emergent. Here you need to figure out what the designer wanted you to do or die. This first part of the level is more of a puzzle you have to figure out in order to not die or not get swarmed by the fucking Mancubi and their Lost Souls. At least they could have given you a Super Shotgun for the Pinkies to speed things up.
The parts after that are contradictorily easy because they give you a BFG and loads of rocket ammo so you can gib the Archviles and Spiderdemons without too much fuss.
>Tricks and Traps
Now here's a good level, because you're balancing ammo consumption (if you pistol start), the huge hordes of Imps in one room, hell knights in another, and pinkies in another and trying to get shit done as far as possible so you can get to the more obligatory rooms. It's very hectic and a lot of fun

I hate this shit being the only mod with any players in Zandronum's survival mode.

Tell me about it:
>enter complex lca survival server
>spectate the entire map watching two idiots fuck around
>finally enter the next map
>get instantly killed by the first legendary monster
>be forced into spectate again
>exit server after realizing it will go absolutely nowhere

Resident Evil 5 the mercenaries mode is better at all this than nu doom and it's a bonus mode for a 10 year old game. You can even take a modern shooter like rainbow six and all of these buzzwords you put down here apply aswell

This better be a fucking copypasta because it's retarded
Also just insert Devil May Cry in there or Ninja Gaiden or some shit. You could say this for fucking anything.

Memes have destroyed a lot of things, but I don't think Doom Guy is one of them. Here is the reasoning:
Doom Marine is purely the player, expression through game play, very little else. Old doom games are good because you have freedom to beat the levels how ever you like:
>Run through, killing only the ones that get in your way. Conserving ammo.
>Methodically, search the levels for secrets, and using the extra ammo to easily destroy the levels.
>Or, the best shit. Do a combination of the two above, how ever you feel like.
Also you can do really insanely tight shit if you want to, speedrunning wise.
Nu-Doom has most of the shit right. Not sure about the glorykills, sitting on the fence like a faggot on that one.

any "Press x to kill enemy" button in videogames is always shit. If they are in a stun state maybe you can do an attack that does a set amount of HP damage and has a crit percentage or some shit anything else is just shitty because Nudoom incentivizes glory kills way too much because the reward involved(it's better to glory kill everything big) this gameplay element actually limits player creativity.

The levels were mostly very good, but I've never felt compelled to play through the entire game at once, like I would with Doom 1 episodes. It was just much too long. So I ended up skipping around a lot to whatever levels I hadn't beat yet, or ones that I liked playing.

My biggest complaint with Nu-Doom is how some of the enemies look. The Cyber Demon looks like some shitty WoW monster.

What ruined Doom was a community so full of spergs that there's near constant drama no matter where you go to talk about it. I swear the christ the amount of dedicated shitposters and legitimately batshit individuals that are attracted to Doom makes me wish I never played the game.
