Dusted this badboy off. I have FMCB on it, and wanted to play a relaxing game. Any suggestions for something a bit more laid back or exploration based?

I have Rez and Vice City (for driving around and listening to radio) ready to go. Hoping SSX 3 has as good of a soundtrack as the THPS games as well.

Any absolute favorite games? How have they held up over the years? Anyone here still emulate LAN to play online with other fags? I saw there are active communities for SOCOM and Battlefront.

Radiata Stories. It's a comfy ass RPG about a right cunt of a 16 year old boy that just wants to join the knights and talk shit to everyone. Like kicking shit? Kick the shit out of anything and everything, including NPCs. Like recruiting party members? We got like 200 hundred of those motherfuckers, and a number of them are fucking useless but that's part of the charm. And we got just about the comfiest town hub you could ever want, with individual NPC schedules. Come on, anon. Don't you want to be a HONKY TONK BOY??

There's a bunch of games these days designed entirely around how good they look, and that being their central concept.

Was there anything like that on the PS2? Something that was just good to look at? Something based entirely on exploring and looking at cool scenery? (See: Journey/Flower)

Unrelated: Did anyone ever play the Everquest Online on the PS2? I always thought the concept of console MMOs was cool since you can relax on a couch. Feel bad for everyone that played this. No private servers available, but there is a project going on right now that's trying to bring it back.

>PS2

As far as I'm aware (and after double checking RHDN for possible patches), there aren't any standard VNs or Dating Sims on the PS2 with English patches. Various games got ported to it from the PC in Japan (with nudity and sex chopped out), like To Heart 2, but none of those appear to have been fan-translated, or at least seen modified ports of the PC patches (assuming the game in question had one anyhow). If you want fan-translated VNs, the PSP has had more of an effort on that front, assuming you don't just opt for PC to begin with. Though as >>15041489 says the amount translated compared to the amount not is pretty small in the grand scheme of things. Closest you're going to find in English on the PS2 are likely to be Ar Tonelico I and II and Sakura Wars V. Incidentally, the latter is still the only entry in its series in English, and the disc format is a bit odd (one disc has English audio and more localized script, and the other is in Japanese audio with a more accurate script, as far as I've heard).

As for the PS1 though, there's a few with English patches: Suikogaiden Volumes 1 and 2, as well as an apparent dating sim called Imadoki no Vampire: Bloody Bride.

>I did try searching on VNDB myself but the way their language/platform filter works doesn't let you specify the language for the specific platform.

If you're specifically looking for non-PC ones (I want to say VNDB is much more PC oriented, but I could be wrong), consider trying RHDN, and in the translation search, you can specify by a number of things, including genre (Visual Novel and Dating Sim are listed separately) and system.

>Unless you're telling me you can patch the ISO?

You'd have to use a patch specifically coded for the medium. A patch for a PC version of a game isn't going to work as is with a console/handheld version, and has to be ported for use on the other system itself.

Look through >>15042754 . Do note that the preinstalled application pack's loaders are out of date, and as such will have compatibility issues that have since been rectified. You can use the uLaunchElf app it comes with, once you've gotten the drive and shit set up, to first install FMcB to a memory card, and then dump updated loader files onto said card.

As for compatibility, you can dig through the following if you're concerned about particular games:

>HDL: https://www.absoluteanime.com/hdloader

>OPL: http://sx.sytes.net/oplcl/games.aspx

Admittedly though I'm not sure how up to date the HDL one is. I predominantly use OPL.

I've seen some discussion on why there isn't/can't be a ps1 hdd loader. It has to do with the way ps1 hardware works. So because the PS1 had no option for HDD usage originally, the PS1 hardware mode doesn't even notice its presence? I guess that sounds about right, considering it doesn't notice PS2 memory cards for saving with in that mode either (would be nice if it did; 8 MBs is kind of small, but the PS1's card was a mere 1MB/15 slots if I remember right.) I mostly blame my roomates for not turning it off and leaving it on for extended periods of time, despite me telling them not to. Oh well, the launch models weren't built to last, I'm surprised it survived this long quite frankly. I'd like to get another one but knowing what I'll go through again, I'd rather not. It was just so convenient having a console that could do anything playstation barring the Vita and PS4.

Also, dump the root key, I forgot to do it like an idiot (should've done it after the 1st YLOD) and had to download all the games off the internal HDD again like an idiot (had a 1TB HDD) though to be fair most games were running of USB, except for the PS2 games, still a pain in the ass tho

Saw a copy of that and Return to Arms at a rather cheap price a few days back. Sounded fun, but some further research made it sound like they had some notable bug issues, and I didn't want to drop the money (even if they were comparatively cheap to what they usually go for; priced at $12 and $18 respectively) only to discover later I may not be able to progress. I assume that ISOs people have uploaded online are liable to be completable at least, or else there'd be complaints in the download comments.

>>15042963

There's only a handful listed as outright not working with OPL, but keep in mind the PS2 has a huge library, with multiple regions of games that may or may not have been tested. I'd assume that the actual games, especially the worthwhile ones, are the ones prone to have been recorded at this point compared to shovelware, but keep in mind that some titles, or at least versions for some regions, may have slipped through the cracks. And again, compatibility has improved over time. Part of why I recommend updating the loader app: when I first started playing .hack//IMOQ, Infection and Mutation had audio issues with OPL 0.9.1, and Outbreak outright froze unable to progress. Using the updated 0.9.3 version, they were beatable, and with no more audio bugs either.

>>15042977

>have experience with adding games to it after the initial install?

Yeah, I think we've talked about this before. Just to double check, you ARE taking the drive out of the system when connecting it to the PC, right? Not trying to somehow Ethernet it through the network adapter, right?

>>15043110

Given the Wii having the controller ports on the top, I personally wouldn't, because then you'd have all four ports sticking out the left, which would be a further hassle if you're into multiplayer. But then again I use mine a fair bit for Gamecube (obviously if you only use yours with the Wii Mote and only for Wii games, it would be less of an issue), and the system's small enough that vertically it doesn't take much room at all in my cabinet I use as an entertainment center. Also, you do want to keep your systems breathable, and able to disperse heat the right way, and stacking systems seems liable to reduce that. Even if the fan is meant to vent, you still get some dispersal through the top.

PS2 uses USB1.0, if you're trying to say you're attempting to load off of USB storage. While 1.0 is fine for updating files with uLaunchElf (PS2 memory cards not being big, app files have to be fairly small), it is atrocious to try to load games through the slot compared to systems that have USB 2 or 3, hence why an IDE drive (and thus fat PS2 with network adapter) is recommended if you want to load games with the console.

>Just to double check, you ARE taking the drive out of the system when connecting it to the PC, right?

yes, connecting it with an IDE to USB adapter, the same device used to format it and transfer games to it initially. I'm talking about adding more to it using WinHIIP. I've been told the process is to run WinHIIP in administrator mode, select the drive, select scan/repair, add any new games, and it should be good. If you could break down the process more precisely I would appreciate it.

214ceb No.15055492

>>15053847

Just added another game to my own hard drive as a test. Worked just fine. Though, I should say that when I was first setting mine up some months back, while I was able to get games on it the first go around, the next time after that had WinHIIP telling me it needed repair, which of course meant putting the games on it again. However, ever since I started using the "connect to power source before connect to PC" method, I haven't had any issues since. Before, I would connect the drive to the PC before powering it up, and the resulting connection would be very spotty, resulting in failed installs and (I believe) that case of having to repair the drive. So for the most part where I'm at now in my experiences, the order is to remove the drive from the PS2, get the cords attached, plug it into the wall before the PC, run WinHIIP as admin, select the drive, let it do its thing, and then you can install and delete games.

If WinHIIP continues to give you grief, consider looking into HDL Dump. I've heard some anons say it provides better utility, and that some games don't take as well to WinHIIP as they do HDL Dump (this seems command line from my research, but apparently has a GUI version for Windows called "HDL Dumb"; note the "b"), but I don't have any experience with HDL Dump yet myself. Namely because I'm not sure as of yet if it would work with my drive the way it is, or if I'd have to reformat it (and then have to reinstall everything again).

PATA IDE drives weren't made to be hot-swappable, but yeah, the power, wait, data cable method worked for me, too. I've got a PATA to SATA adapter and PATA extension cables, which make the process a wee bit easier.

Why don't ya buy a first or second Gen Playstation 3?

They cost around 80 Euros here and you can play ps1,ps2 and ps3 games.

I've been holding off getting that. I'll try booting games from the network for now.

I assumed that the slow read speed of the ports would simply affect load times, not make games unplayable all together. Thankd.

Because while it's nice having all three systems playable on one device (my dad has one I've CFWed for when I come to visit), fats aren't exactly durable due to how the thermal paste interacts with the heat given off, and are prone to giving out faster than slims. Beyond that, only particular fats are properly backwards compatible (in NTSC, that's the 20 and 60 gb models; not sure what PAL has for them), and even then I wager they use a late-era PS2 chip (PS2s themselves having slight variance in what PS1 and PS2 games they can play; mine can't do Jak X Racing, for instance). Though, maybe COBRA helps on that end as well.

Consoles with nothing on the top, and a flat surface:

PlayStation 2

Playstation 4

Xbox 360

Xbox One

Phillips CDi

Goldstar 3DO

Panasonic 3DO model FZ1

Nintendo Wii

Nintendo Wii U

Right now, my Wii is on top of my Wii U, and my SNES is on top of my PS2. My NES is off to the side, standing upright, along with my Atari 7800. Everything else is sort of put away, but easy to get to should I get the craving to play or record something for it. Biggest pain in the ass to drag out is the Neo Geo, as it's in its retail box, rather than just being in a cardboard box from the grocery store.

I agree. Also, the combat system was excellent and I liked how tutorials could get skipped if playing through for the second time.
