Splatoons 1 and 2 introduced Agents 1, 2, 3, and 4. Then, for some reason, Octo Expansion introduced Agent 8 and skipped numbers 5, 6, and 7. I didn't really understand why at first, but then my slow brain finally figured it out last night. Octopuses have 8 legs. The cute playable Octoling girl is based on octopuses. The "octo-" prefix means eight. I feel so retarded now because it took me days to figure this out.
Even so, I hope Agents 5, 6, and 7 do make an appearance in future installments. Wouldn't make sense to have such a huge gap there between 4 and 8.
Also, if there's ever a "Pearl vs Marina" final Splatfest like there was for Callie and Marie, I'll choose the wigger over the nigger.

So, building on the discussion of octoling invasion, I decided to see how often I saw an octoling. From the various matches I got 2/5 being a male octoling. So that means instead of 50/50 matchup like the inkling have, we have more females than males. Taking into account that an eighth to a fourth of the male octolings are fags as studied from the lobby art, the addition to the potential dating market is 30 males and 60 females. So with that addition to the 50/50 in place, the new ratio is 80/110 or 42/58. Getting a girl should be easy as pie now.

There's not much to know from the first game, really. Here's the skinny:
>the Great Zapfish, a giant fish that powers all of Inkopolis is missing
>an old squid named Cap'n Cuttlefish, who is the oldest squid alive and was part of The Great Turf Wars(actual wars, unlike in the games) summons your squid to retrieve the Great Zapfish
>the other two agents in Cap'n Cuttlefish's team are his grand daughters, Callie and Marie, who happen to be really popular idols in Inkopolis, who host battles and Splatfests
>your kid/squid hybrid fights through Octo Valley, which is a giant garbage heap of the remains of human civilization to retrieve the Great Zapfish
>your kid/squid hybrid encounters the Octarians, a militant octopus-like race and defeats their leader, DJ Octavio with the help of Callie and Marie using the power of friendship and sick beats
>your kid/squid hybrid brings the Great Zapfish back and Inkopolis is saved
That's the basic premise of the story mode. There are other details, like what happened to the humans, some background on the Octarians, mannerisms of the inklings, and whatnot, but they're largely unimportant to the story unless you're really deep into the lore. More information can be found on Inkipedia if you're interested.
It's worth noting that the overall style and feel of Splatoon 1 is different from Splatoon 2. Splatoon 1 has a late 90s/early 2000s Japanese mix and match hip hop style with surf rock and ska music, whereas Splatoon 2 apes slightly more Americanized hip hop themes and incorporates a wider variety of music, but not exactly the same feel as the first game.

The game mentioned sea levels flooding out land in one of the Sunken Scrolls. I'm calling bullshit on that being a natural occurence though, but the l o r e of this game isn't supposed to be overanalyzed.
With the whole global warming shit, even if the environmentalists' wet dreams came true and every single ice cap on Earth melted, a gradual process which would take thousands of years, the sea level would only rise by at most about 250 feet (75 meters for you yuropoors). This means, if such a process actually happened, you won't drown unless you live in Florida, by the Amazon River Basin, in some obscure Mediterranean town, or on the coast of an island, and manage to live that long while staying in the same spot. It would make sense that the game's background focuses on sea level, though, considering it is meant to take place in Japan and a significant proportion of its current population lives on the coastline. Even then, the Sunken Scrolls seem to resemble scriptures, and if anything they're just supposed to be a bible for the Inklings.

Smokeyard is pretty bad too (Namely for it's impossible high tide waves) but Lost Outpost, this map is bad no matter what wave. Regular waves, you got hardly any workspace, especially that grated area. Low tide waves, still got fuckall for moving space. The whole map just favors the bosses as you got hardly any room to maneuver.
Nintendo, rework the map, or remove it entirely, because I've had it with this shitty map!

Customizations on playable Inklings/Octolings is probably just a video-game'y thing. The skin colors of story-based characters like Marie/Callie/Pearl/Marina always remains the same color. But then again, who knows? Maybe you're right. Maybe those superstars secretly can change their skin color at will, but choose not to in order to maintain their popular brand image. If your face is gonna be plastered on billboards, magazines, and other promotional material, it wouldn't make sense for a celebrity's skin color to look radically different between photo shoots, right?
But then again, I don't think characters in the manga have this controllable skin pigmentation either. For now, I don't think there is a conclusive answer at the moment.

Lost Outpost is probably my second favorite map for Salmon Run, next to Marooner's Bay. I understand why new players have troubles with Salmonid Smokeyard. High tide is only a pain in the ass because a lot of inexperienced players don't know to stick to the basket side of the map at all times unless there's a Stinger or Flyfish to take care of. They tend to split their numbers and there's always some dumb asshole who tries to guard eggs.
I won't give you shit for using stick controls, but I do highly recommend you consider motion controls. With a proper jump shot with motion controls, you could have made that flyfish shot while still able to see the ground, and not have fallen into the water in the first place. I'm not trying to be a dick about it, but you truly made a poor move in that situation and motion controls would have helped you.

I tried motion. Didn't work out for me because you can't look up and down with stick while motion is on. That's fucking retarded and I'm shocked Nintendo still hasn't patched this as an option yet. Plus, I can't do Motion for I use a wired Pro Controller, and those don't have gyros.
Besides, I do fine with stick, and have good gamesense. I even outperform a lot of motion users because of my more steady aim and positioning. -Your blaster made the first shot on the flyfish. Good on him. He made it with a jump shot, mind you. This is important.
-Meanwhile, you were sweeping the chums to get in closer to take out the other side of the flyfish. You missed one. The lack of precision made it hard to hit. You ignored it anyway.
-Your blaster missed their second shot on the flyfish, again they used a jump shot, and farther away than where you were advancing to.
-You used the stick to aim upward, making it near impossible to make a jump shot, since your right thumb was occupied with camera controls. The ground underneath you was completely out of sight, and you walked forward even after you loosed your bomb and fell into the water. It's worth mentioning again that your blaster made that shot much farther away from the water with a jump shot.
-Your blaster walked into the water for some unknown reason. That was dumb on their part.
-Your charger was hanging back, ready to revive you immediately, but the chum you missed and ignored doubled back and bumped you immediately after you got revived.
-The charger, now alone, since two allies are dead in the water and his last ally off in the distance, gets splatted by a cohock because he's a charge ill suited for that situation.
-You last teammate was died due to a stinger. Your blaster should have taken that out after loosing his second bomb on the flyfish and missing.

Another Splatfest = Another Shifty Station review.
This Splatfest, the Shifty Station is a layout similar to Saltspray Rig. The layout this time is an arena style layout, where both team sides are separated by a big glass wall. The gimmick this time: Ink Switches, which make it's first debut in NA and EU, first appearing in the JP only Unknown Creatures vs. Advanced Technology Splatfest.
The map has platforms that can be raised using two Ink Switches in the very back of the map. These platforms are how you can get into the two team's areas, but can also be used as high ground for team fights. The Ink Switch arena is where most fighting is gonna be, as teams battle for control of the Ink Switches. Besides the two Ink Switches in the back, there is one at mid that if shot, will raise a wall. The wall closes off mid from the Switch Arena, and makes both friends and foe take the long way back to the middle.
So how does the map hold up? Pretty well actually. After four months of shitty Shifty Station layouts, it's nice to finally have a good one that isn't overshadowed by a single player gimmick and is actually fun. Both teams have an equal chance to comeback on this map, and if one team gets the high ground it's not the end of the world as the team area also has a lot of high ground to fight from, so you have to always be on your toes. If the enemy infiltrates your team's area, there's lots of high ground there to help you fight them and beat back intruders.
There is one major complaint I do have about this map: The wall. It doesn't add anything to the map and for the most part can be ignored. Why? Because the mid area is very very small and in the Turf War, insignificant and ignorable. Every team fight I'm in, everyone just ignores it and goes for the platforms, or are more focused on inking the bigger areas since the mid hardly offers any points, and tactically is a bad place to be in. The wall doesn't stop or slow anyone down, and is more annoying then helpful. The map would be a lot better if A. It removed the wall entirely, or B. The wall was replaced with a platform that has inkable walls to climb up. Make it a third high ground to fight from.
Still, it's a great layout, and makes me miss Saltspray Rig a lot.

Seems we need another banwave. This Splatfest is really bringing out the cheaters. Found this video where some guy instantly died from two hits from the Inkbrush at full health.
There was an instant with me where I was in a match with this guy using the Tri-Slosher Nouveau, but he had Point Sensors. (And I know he did because I saw him throw it during 1v1s.) What's more is his Tri-Slosher had the range of the vanilla Slosher. But the weirdest thing is, after the match, I went into the Online App to report him, and the match was gone. It wasn't there. It was as if it never happened. The fact hackers can no delete match histories so they can't get reported, that's scary as fuck.
Nintendo, for the love of Christ, fix the Online. Get a proper anti-cheat, get the basic online features out of the app and into the console itself. DO SOMETHING!

Someone who performs well solo is obviously going to help a team effort more than someone who is poor solo. I'm not denying that there are cheaters in the game. I saw early octolings and somebody using the Grizzco Charger in a turf war match before, but you were hit four times in that clip. There's also connectivity fuckery like getting killed by a graze from a Sting Ray straight from a respawn and getting killed by an indirect shot from a clash blaster, despite being at full health.

I already addressed that. You see, the issue is, for every mirror match the popular team has, that's two entire teams not fighting against the opposing side. And those teams could have really good players being locked into not contributing to their own cause. And, even when one of those teams gets lucky and matched against their enemy, there's still a chance something like a disconnect could happen, meaning they still won't contribute, and they have to enter the roulette of "will I face against my own side again?" again. Meanwhile, if the less popular side suffers from a disconnect, they've got a lot less of a chance that their next match will be against their own team, meaning they get back to contributing more quickly and consistently.

The boss is fine. Autobombs are the problem. They've been a problem ever since they were introduced in this fucking game.
Seekers were a problem back in Splatoon 1, but not to the extent Autobombs are. Autobombs follow the target, have a big blast radius, and when combined with sub weapon gear abilities, easily spammable.
They're great for weeding out campers yes, however for the most part they're just cheap and easy kills. Throw them into a team fight and you'll get one or two of them because who the hell would pay attention to the Autobombs? They're gonna be more focused on ==THE SQUID OR OCTO SHOOTING AT THEM!==
Reminds me of back when Martyrdom was a problem back in Call of Duty 4. That's what Autobombs are. Pure spam for quick and easy kills. And then Nintendo decided to make a fucking Bomb Launcher special for it.
Autobombs are an easy fix though. Just nerf them so they're no longer invulnerable. Change them so you can destroy one that's following you. That way, they're no longer cheap and in team fights they're still effective. Plus they'll still be able to weed out campers, they just won't be cheap little shits anymore.
Just please Nintendo, do something about them. They need a nerf and they need it now.

Anyways, I just had the weirdest game of rainmaker ever. The game started, I'm not thinking, kinda distracted by tv. Nobody goes after the rainmaker, I'm used to people swarming that thing as soon as possible. I then see some of the opposite team on the other side of the map, doing whatever it is that they're doing. I kill a few, wondering where the fuck the rainmaker is. At about the 1:30-1:00 minute mark I realize I'm playing turf war. I panic a little, but the enemy has pretty consistently been in the "danger" phase throughout the game. I do my best to help, even though we're practically on their spawn. I ended the match with what is my lowest turf war stat, but I still got ten kills, I guess? Easily the most confusing matches I've had in a long time.

My only argument is that I'm consistently against Nips and Spics with shit connectivity during league, resulting in my splattershot taking 5 or 6 hits to splat. Compound that with the fact they're they're often times teleporting all over the place and getting one hit kills with shooters and from indirects from a clash blaster. The secret boss in the DLC was a breeze because it was more or less what I deal with regularly in league. I'd argue it's easier because at least the kelping squidhead isn't using a blaster or a clash blaster. Is the fight unfair? Yes, but a large chunk of the DLC is unfair. It's manageable despite this, however.

Team Pulp here. We had an 80% victory rate and were a power level 2350 team. Almost all of the No-Pulp teams at our level were squidiots. The Splatfest was not rigged. It's not just a popularity contest. Besides, the popular team not winning is legitimately the majority of Splatfests. It happened in Mayo vs. Ketchup, Flight vs. Invisibility, Action vs. Comedy, Chicken vs. Egg, Baseball vs. Soccer, Raph vs. Leo, Mikey vs. Donnie, Raph vs. Donnie, and now Pulp vs. No-Pulp.
Why is this Splatfest any different from the others and why are people so salty over a 3 snail difference? I would gladly give 3 snails to somebody if it meant that much to them. I have plenty to spare. Besides, just have three less rerolls, three less slots unlocked, or simply gain three more levels. I've lost more Splatfests than I've won, and I didn't make a big deal out of those. I was grateful I was able to play with my friends and have a good time. I really hope this competition that ultimately means nothing isn't seriously eating people up as poorly as the internet seems to suggest. Granted, I play Splatoon primarily to get salty and I love it

Eh, sort of.
Spoilered for off-topic, but here are my thoughts on counterpressure suits: It's fairly obvious that they went for that design for sex appeal rather than actual realism (if they were going for actual realism their gloves and boots would be WAY bulkier). To be fair, I can't think of any sci-fi of any media that actually addresses it, but counterpressure suits have a few significant flaws that prevent them from being quite as useful as current gas-filled suits. For one, cooling is still a significant issue for extended usage. The need for pressure to be applied evenly and directly to all parts of the body prevent the traditional liquid cooling method from being used, so something new will need to be invented that's just as efficient. The human body's own sweat would actually be adequate for short periods, but would lead to eventual dehydration and the salt depositing on the suit could lead to mechanical failure. On top of this, certain areas of the body are incredibly difficult to maintain pressure on, and as far as I can tell the Biosuit team still hasn't been able to work that one out fully. The hands, head, and feet are the obvious difficulties, but they're non-issues compared to the difficulties of applying even pressure to the groin. Naturally, the nether regions have a lot of folds in them which are specific to the individual, and each and every fold presents a problem for a counterpressure suit, because there absolutely can't be any empty or open spaces within them. At the very least this will lead to fluids pooling in the area, leading to bruising, and at worst you'll be exposing it to the full effects of hard vacuum. This problem was addressed in the Apollo-era SAS design by stuffing foam around the astronauts shiny brass balls, leading to a smoother overall shape, however this needs to be tailored to the individual and is impractical for future suits which need to be at least as general-purpose and modular as the current EMU suit. There are more issues than just this, but do keep in mind that they're all solvable problems. Counterpressure suits just might overtake gas-filled suits one day, but expect a Mars colony before that happens.
If you like realism in your space anime, I highly recommend Planetes if you haven't watched/read it already. It does beat our Rocket Girls in realism, but I feel like it's an unfair comparison since they're completely different in theme and tone.
