Sega has Sonic and Bayonetta and Capcom has Megaman and Ryu, which means that Bandai, Konami, and Square are the only three left. If I had to guess, I'd say that the next 3 characters are going to be

Bandai is the exclusive video game publisher for the Dragon Ball franchise and they're also co-developing Smash Ultimate. With the massive popularity of FighterZ and the upcoming Switch port which was also developed due to popular demand, this is a very likely probability. There's probably some red tape with Funimation that needs to be worked out, but if Sakurai can get a David Hayter Snake from Konami in their current state then damn near anything is possible.

Also Simon Belmont is basically a guarantee in my eyes. I've said many times before, but Castlevania is the only staple Nintendo franchise left that doesn't have a playable rep. Also Geno's pretty likely considering he's one of the few characters Sakurai legitimately wants in the game, and he was almost in Brawl but due to licensing issues with (((Squeenix))) he wasn't included. But now that Cloud is in and Geno had a Mii costume in Sm4sh, I'd say his chances have drastically gone up.

Apparently it's been confirmed via a recent column Sakurai wrote that they finished up the design document, with character list, in late 2015. Not long after the ballot closed, actually. Makes me wonder if characters like K. Rool and Geno have a chance this time around.

I'm not really sure if we'll see a character reveal this soon but it's hard to say. We had about 16 months from Sm4sh's official announcement until 3DS release. For a while in there we were getting a character reveal every month or 2. This one has a way shorter time between official reveal (not that trailer that just showed silhouettes and the logo; the actual reveal at E3) and release. So I guess it's not out of the question, but it seems really soon to me. Not that anybody I want will actually get in.

The way I see it is that while Sakurai said we wouldn't be getting too many newcomers, there have to be at least SOME, it wouldn't be Smash if there weren't. The most ambitious number I've heard that still seems likely is 9: Six new characters and three echo fighters. And also, when the hell else are they gonna reveal new fighters? I mean they could do it like how they revealed Robin and Lucina back during Japan Time 2, I guess, but on that note, who the fuck knows when the next Direct will be? It could be a month from now to right before release.
I also recall hearing that Sakurai said there'd be a Smash-dedicated Direct sometime before release where he talks about new and returning modes as well as everything else that'd be in Ultimate.

I've read a plot synopsis for nuDoom out of curiosity, and it turns out that's basically exactly what the plot is about, only Doomguy is an ancient good instead of an ancient evil. It would make sense, seeing as she's the de facto 'face' of bullet hell and the Japanese doujin scene (like how Ryu is the face of fighting games and Cloud was the face of JRPGs for a while), but I almost don't want her for a couple of reasons. Part of it is due to the enormous amount of newfags the fanbase would be flooded with, and considering Touhou is pretty fuckin' hard I don't see any of them being able to beat the games despite playing them (if even that, depending on how prudish they are about pirating games), and thus becoming secondaries if they don't keep at it. Alice probably has more interesting gameplay implications too. I'd personally like Mokou, but I doubt she has enough series presence to take the slot. Then again, they gave it to Elecman, so what do I know?
Item: Mini Hakkero, if Marisa isn't the AT. If she is, Doll Swarm.
Stage: Extremely hard to pick. As wondrous as Gensokyo is, it's hard to pick a single place that stands out as the place that defines the series, short of just going with the Hakurei Shrine. Maybe something like the Fire Emblem stage where you get whisked through GapHag's portals to various locations with different gameplay elements each.
Music: This list isn't a question of what's worthy, but of what you can bear to leave out. My own top 3 would be Maiden's Cappricio, The Gensokyo the Gods Loved, and either Flawless Clothing of the Celestials or Did You See that Shadow?

I always forget to mention that. Easily one of the stages I want the most. Giving every character a "home stage" would be nice too, like a Dr. Mario stage, even though I'd prefer Dr. Mario to be a skin for Mario. I also considered a stage based off Marvelous: Another Treasure Island, a Japan Only First-Party Nintendo game, it would be the closest we'd get to having a "Goonies" stage. My #1 priority would be to include as many iconic aspects from NES to N64 era as possible before adding newer elements unless they're as if not more iconic. No more contemporary shit like Greninja and Nu-Fire Emblem. Although I would want Arvis and Ephraim added as a SNES / Villain / Magic User Rep and GBA / Lance User Rep respectively and Ike to be made an Axe User.

Sparkster and Lip would work better as Assists in my opinion. Marina from Mischief Makers would be a good Assist trophy, didn't think of her earlier until you mentioned Lip. If Nintendo still owned Rare I'd consider adding Fulgore as an Assist but I thought that might've been pushing it with Conker already there. Bubbles from Clu-Clu Land would be great too as an Assist. I keep forgetting a lot of staples.
I wish Nintendo would also provide every single game each character stars in on a Virtual Console like platform so that way people can't complain they've never heard of them or that they're too obscure.
