Where were you when physical games became extinct?

Why the fuck do Americans always make these giant store chains, knowing fully well that if the center dies, everything will go with it? Small video game stores with different owners sounds like a better alternative.

Physical distribution has been dead on PC for a decade yet we consistently have lower prices for games than consoles. You'll be fine.

And nothing of value was lost. Really the only time they were of any value was a brief point in the middle of the PS3's lifespan when you could get PS2/GCN/GBA/DS games from them reasonably cheap and they kept the prices on the systems reasonable (nobody would try selling something for more than GS did).

I recall there was actually a lot of franchises that didn't like being forced to drop PS2 games because they were in poor areas and most of the customers didn't have a (then current) gen console. Then a few years latter they brought back older gen stuff, but online only. That reeked of mismanagement.

We have lower prices specifically because piracy is an option, and smaller margins + significantly higher sales brings in far more shekels than high margins and a huge chunk of the market giving you the finger and pirating your game. Consoles very rarely get sales on their digital only titles.

I want to be able to see the condition of the games and systems I buy; it was because of gamestop I was able to get a CFW-able vita in good condition; most online stores just send you an updated version and the return process is an absolute pain but at least with gamestop you can check that kind of shit in-store or in my case call.

I got pretty lucky with a small strip mall Gamestop in regards to amiibo collecting. Go ahead, get it out. I live out of town so they know I'm a collector instead of a scalper. So often times when scalpers overlook that store I'm often one of the first customers that find the latest amiibo and Nintendo stuff. I even found the Z-crystal bracelette and a random Pokémon Go Plus there.

Course now alot of Gamestop exclusive games are preorder online only. I remember I was stupid lucky to find the last not-pre-ordered copied of Xenoblade Chronicles for Wii after searching 3 stores because it was a limited run. I have a feeling Nintendo is going to run certain physical niche Switch games with artificial scarcity bullshit to entice digital sales which will fuck retailers even more.

Every time Nintendo releases a new game the shelf spot is is empty between two months and forever. At this point why have a brick and mortar store when all of your physical stock is pre-order exclusive? When you have nothing to put on the shelf why open the floor? Plus after the pre-order stock is sold the only way to buy those games is digital post launch. And if the game doesn't sell it's bargain bin trash.

This. Gamestop doesn't send their old generations of games to goodwills or other stores where people might still buy them. When they get the word that it's time to phase out that old generation of games, they'd just throw them in the dumpster. Combine with the factor of artificial scarcity. The fact that years back, they were so aggressive in expanding and killing the sheer bulk of their competition, means that what stores have survived can now bump prices up a good bit once Gamestop stops stocking for a system, because the amount of local options still actively stocking for it are that much fewer. Where I live, there is is only one non-Gamestop store within the city limits, even after Gamestop's actually started to cut back on the amount of stores they have (you do not need ten Gamestops in a five mile radius, much less one on either side of the same street), and that one took years for anyone to actually deign worth the risk. Thankfully, the other nearby towns didn't suffer as huge an amount of Gamestops, so they have more options and due to being gridlocked, it's about ten minutes to go from one town to another, so I've at least got some other options, but even those tend to operate off artificial scarcity price inflation for stuff Gamestop no longer stocks for.

Of course, this doesn't necessarily affect online prices directly, but it usually evens out because no one wants to feel they're making less profit than they feel they should.

The issue with stickers is that they're pretty much single use only unless you're really careful with what you put them on and how you remove it. So they get put on something or just plain don't get used at all. I got my copy about two months after it came out, back when Gamestop still had some new copies. About a month later people realized that NoA, in their infinite wisdom, had shortprinted it, which I suppose ought to have been expected since they had such little faith in the title they didn't even want it here to begin with, and when their hand was forced, they made it Gamestop exclusive because again, such little faith (even though NoE had handled the most expensive parts already).
