Nuking civvies edition. How's the battle coming along Commander?

Playing x-piratez and it's pretty fun but I can't seem to get a better airship. I've unlocked aircars but they get pummeled by everything.

Also been playing Xenonauts with the community patch and it's ok.

Same here, Xenonauts was a decent experience but with it being essentially a spiritual successor to X-Com, I'd much rather play the original. Especially since the modding community for Xenonauts is so dead, there's no psionics, and the art style is pretty unattractive (why is everything beautiful except for the models and soldier art? They were so close). Hopefully the sequel is better.

This thread reminds me that I have a campaign in OpenX-COM I've been completely ignoring. It might be time to pick it up again.

How do you guys deal with psionics early game? Is any mission to capture a live sectoid commander doomed to end with half the squad dead and the other half in the medbay?

Open apocalypse when?

>vs. early game psionics

Kill 'em all. As soon as they see one of your units, you're fucked, so you better have some bombs and decent cover to hide behind.

Don't worry about getting psi until later game unless you get stupid lucky with a stray shot that knocks some sectoid leader/commander faggot unconscious.

They usually focus on the ones who have low psi-strength so you can use that to your advantage if you notice some soldiers are particularly weak. I would then strip them and put him in the corner if they are being repeatedly attacked, then would fire them the moment I would get back to base.

Hey anons I need some advice for ufo defense. Is it better to rush for plasma weapons+aircraft to get the aircraft plasma weapon+firestorm, or should I try going for a strong economy first?

902744 No.15020898

>>15020871

if it's vanilla by experience it's better to rush to plasma so you can deal safely aganist cyberdisks, but most people research lasers first in order to sell them and have an steady income

8d07dd No.15020913

>>15020871

Go for lasers so that you can massproduce laser canons and sell them.

In fact, you should have (by the late game) atleast 1 base dedicated to manufacturing.

I always get bored of Xenonauts halfway through, never managed to finish a game. I guess it just lacks the charm of X-Com.

>>15020871

Plasma beams are very important, but firestorms can wait. An interceptor with plasma beams can kill everything except battleships if you wait for them to slow down enough, which they have to do when turning or landing.

And as others have said, laser cannons are the most profitable item you can manufacture. But I often find that selling the tons of heavy plasma you get off ayys in the late game brings in enough cash.

This, xenonauts is a strong game on its own, but when im playing it i start missing the 90s feel x-com had and go back to playing x-com.

I find what makes X-com perfect is the time units, the stats and the importance of squad tactics.

Other games aim for the 3rd aspect however with out the other 2 you lack customization, specialization and flexibility the TU give you.

Xpiratz is fun but he seems more interested in padding out the game with useless research than finishing it. I stored playing when you had to research a meeting room or something like that. It was so you could unlock the ability to research, I kid you not.

It doesn't even feel like you are a pirate anymore. At least I could get a shota harem for my gals.
