A lot of fantasy used to have science fiction elements in it, back in the day. Mostly that's because fantasy fell within the science fiction section of most libraries before Tolkien came along and popularized the shit out of not!European medieval fantasy. Kind of reminds me how many Final Fantasy games had scifi stuff in them, now that I think about it.
