Arma Cold War Assault is actually Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis. But Bohemia didn't have the rights to the name, so they had to rename it when they wanted to continue the series.

Arma 3's official campaigns and scenarios are a dumpster fire. Look for community-made content or learn the basics of the editor and make your own fun.

If you want multiplayer/co-op, look for a group with their own private servers. The general Arma community (post DayZ) makes CoD fans look mature and sophisticated.

I kinda liked OF, but gave up in the mission where you get full control of the whole unit for the first time, load them into truck and get them into village to fend of enemy attack. I couldn't manage to control them, so we got all killed every time I tried. Guess trying to control my character AND the rest of the soldiers in real time is beyond my capacity.

In Arma 2 I have only played the first two missions, because after that my computer at the time (P4 3.2GHz, 2GB RAM, ATI 4670HD) couldn't handle more complex scenarios.

While we're on topic, what are some good single player mods for Flashpoint, Arma 1 or Arma 2?

Don't buy Arma 3. Arma 2 has more content and is more stable.

The trend of recent patches for Arma 3 is to remove features and break mods. Most recently they fucked up AI settings, breaking something that worked before for no gain. The devs just laughed about it and said "just wait for Arma 4".

Any AI land-vehicle told to drive across the map has a 75% of being stuck on an object, flipped over or the wheels wrecked within 5 minutes.

The only DLC worth paying for is Tanoa, everything else is utter garbage (unless you are a cunt that likes Life mods).

The devs have said they are almost done with Arma 3, so the chance of all the major gamebreaking stuff being fixed is basically zero. And it is still an unoptimized piece of shit. But be sure to pre-order Arma 4, goy!

They are also planning on going the paid mods route. In the past they stole community mods to sell as part of a product they were selling to the military.

Single player Arma 3 is completely unviable and you will spend all of your time fighting the game, not the enemy.

It hurts. It hurts more that I actually bought Arma 3 before all that shit started happening. The singleplayer is so broken I didn't even bother finishing it. The only campaign I beat was Laws of War, but that was a fucking walking simulator most of the time.

This. Most groups are actually quite chill and they lack underageb&. Finding non-redditors is a bit harder, but only a bit. Last time I checked, there were more groups for Arma 2 rather than 3. I don't know about OFP, really, I'm just going to assume that only slavs are currently actively playing it. Steer clear from anyone who's mostly playing DayZ and RP. Unless you want autism-tier milsim (and by that I mean really autistic), stay away from them as well since they could be "no fun allowed" sort of asshats. Groups who host their own servers are usually the best.

There is also the theory that Bohemia intentionally hamstrings Arma to ensure that VBS is a superior milsim so they can charge major shekels. This explains things like releasing patches that break Pook's SAMs.
