Buddy, I have more faith in Nintendo collaborating a spin-off stand alone Geno game than a true sequel to SMRPG.
I'd be down for an 2D run and gun Metroid-style action RPG in Toyland made by Warioland and ex-Treasure devs where all the friendly characters are based clockwork toys and the enemies are based on Final Fantasy and Mario enemies fused with medieval-rennaisaunce.

Fuck you for suggesting having to buy two switches for a Mario and Luigi game, /soyv/! Couch co-op can be a given with one brother per joycon but that's as far as I'm going for a primarily single player game.
As for controls, instead of command blocks I'm going with SMRPG's hotkey commands. Reason is you can delay a faster brother's turn by having them defend until their slower brother's turn. Then when their turns are synced you use the analog sticks to move Mario or Luigi on that turn together. Each brother has a range noted by a circle how far they can move. You pick a command with a hotkey using the joycon buttons (for pro-controller it's D-pad for left joycon). The jump, hammer, and two new actions are face buttons symmetrical to the position of the joycons. For example, jump on left joycon is up while on right joycon it's B. Items and tactics are bumper and trigger.
Now, Bros. Moves don't activate normally with commands. They activate however the brothers are positioned on the map relative to their target. You'll know the move is available before you execute it on a synced turn.
The battlefield will be a 3D render but the sprites will be hand drawn cartoons. Reason is so you can split up and jump to left, right, center, top, or bottom fields depending on if you want to corner flank or pincer attack your foes. Also keep in mind Mario and Luigi can be flanked on their own too and enemies can sync up and coordinate. Regular Goombas when together will jump on each other's heads and form a stack. If they stack too high you can't jump on them. So you'll have to build damage another way since you can't take advantage of that jump weakness.
