Serious Sam 3 always felt like uncanny valley to me. It looks like a serious game but then Serious Sam's humor was off-putting, as if he was tacked on. Guess that image explains it.

I hope the new Serious Sam game returns to it's roots. I thought Serious Sam 2 was awesome, I want something like that again but with the wackiness dialed down just a little. Not sure why it received so much hate.
