Now tell me the name of 3 other locations that aren't Diamond City. You can't, can you. I remember Goodsprings, Primm, the NCR outpost, Nipton, Novac, Vegas and all the neat little side areas dotted in between. Nellis Air Force Base, Sharecropper Farms, NCR Correctional Facility, the Ranger outpost on the way to Nipton. New Vegas is a fucking masterclass in open world design and making the world feel like a living, breathing organism.
Fallout 4 is a forgettable mess of a game world, nothing stands out because you're bombarded with cluttered copy pasted bullshit everywhere you go. There isn't a single area in the game where there isn't 5,000,000 things on screen at once.

The only part of the game I remember is that giant skyscraper furnished like a 1950s diner for no particular reason they showed during one of the original trailers. I never actually played it because it looked terrible.

The Ironworks are used by the Forged to make metal for sale, but you are forced to kill them like regular raiders so what's the point? Same with Beantown Brewery and Poseidon Energy Plant, more raiders you can't interact with beyond spraying them with bullets.

FO4 has better graphics, gunplay, inventory system, character interactions, and visual storytelling than Borderlands. It's basically Borderlands done right. I like the new direction they took with FO76 which combines Borderlands and Rust with dedicated server, private server support, and modding. This is the best direction Bethesda Fallout can take.

I think there's a mod that guts out the story, changes the environment, and turns it into a survival game.
The only good things in the game are the gunplay and thr building, but it's only when the building is functional and not hassling you at every step.

I'm really surprised that you don't hear the comparison between Fallout 4 and Borderlands more often, actually. Remember how in the very earliest press release for Borderlands, back in 2005 or 2006, they announced that it would have weapon crafting and settlement building? Then Bethesda of all companies are the ones to make this game just like Borderlands that actually has all the features Borderlands was originally announced as having.

Not remembering names != forgettable. I remember plenty of locations/quests. For example, the ship full of robots stuck in a building. The untouched super-fortified mansion in the middle of the city owned by pre-war immortals, the radioactive crater wasteland to the west where part of the main quest takes place, the airport the BOS take over, the comic book store with the barbarian axe and costume.
I don't do names, but I've listed 5 locations with specific enough descriptions that you should know exactly what I'm talking about each time. Names are meaningless
