Story is very important, they promise. Has to live up to the expectations people have of BioWare, so they made certain to build the game around this consideration.

They end up putting a great big wall between the actual story, as told inside of the player's own isolated town, and the game, which is done out on four player co-op missions.

It's telling when the demo is full of cuts that the gameplay is so boring that they can't even show it to us. I don't see how so many fuck up the looter shooter, it's got to be the easiest genre to get right and they fail on the basics so frequently. I guess all effort is spent on monetization techniques and they forget to make the actual game. Warfarm keeps winning by doing nothing it seems.

The problem is that Anthem seems to borrow rather a bit from MEA spiritually, hell the whole "fucked up world that you have to wear a suit to survive on" is something you see from the fucking start of MEA. If you added in MMO crap to MEA and got rid of some of the exploration (such as it was), while also tweaking the aesthetic to look less Mass Effect-like, I daresay it'd start looking a bit like Anthem to the casual observer.

The concept of romances isn't inherently flawed. "Romances" is also a shitty term for what is a system that allows the player to continuously unlock a character of their choice. This is nice because you're able to learn about the character you're interested in in an interactive way suited to medium instead of only learning about the characters the author chooses to develop over the course of a linear tale, as you get in a movie or book. It only breaks down when executed by NuBioware because their pozzed writers can't write worth shit and there is nothing to reveal about their shallow self-inserts. This is why they've fallen back on fucking the companions, there's no payoff for getting to know these characters. So instead of meaningful character development that is rewarding in itself they beat you over the head with the humping of their unimpressive polygons.

We should be lamenting the lack of actual power armor gameplay and not just jetpacks. What reason was there to render and make such a big deal out of climbing into the suit when the gameplay offers none of the bonuses such armor would provide. Your correlation between Anthem and other jetpack games illustrates exactly this. The suit provides no unique abilities a plainclothes avatar from any other third-person shooter doesn't enjoy except flight. Increased durability is nothing because our reference for damage will be based on in-suit gameplay, without experiencing a secondary rate of damage such durability doesn't exist. Even if they did include a short mission outside of the suit in order for the player to judge the scale of durability it wouldn't matter, the game would have to be built entirely around both suited and naked gameplay for a player to actually appreciate and yearn for the durability of the armor. As Anthem is surely built around suited gameplay any naked missions would feel like the pre-armor opening of Mass Effect 3, and would likely be just as terrible – or worse due to lack of flight. Increased strength? Can you lift the big enemy type and toss him on his ass? Doubtful. Any displays of strength will be burdensome QTEs or context sensitive actions where you slide a boulder to reveal a path or lift heavy doors. So, jetpacks, that's the extent of Biowares creativity when it comes to designing power armor gameplay.

I think it's inspired by ME:A because it allowed them to recycle some assets. You have the same "streamlined" gameplay (only 3 powers per class). The armor suits design reminds me of what they did for every non-humanoid species in ME:A (I don't know if I'm the only one to have noticed this in ME:A but the Turians, Salarians, Angarans and Kett all have the same height and morphology because they share the same skeleton for the animation. The studio was that lazy).

The aesthetic of Anthem is so uninspired. Based on the artworks, it looks like a mix of Halo 4 and Destiny. There's also that annoying AI companion who speaks like a millenial/Whedon character and who can't shut up for more than 10 sec (just like in ME:A).

I've been watching the bit of gameplay that's available, and so far I'm not impressed. It's pretty, the game is fast, and the characters are "interesting".

It's probably going to be shit, since there happens to be only three, very limited environments to explore so far. Some online have speculated that the majority of this game's budget has been spent on advertising and, due to the failure of both Mass Effect and Dragon's Age, will probably not get updated with missions or any substantial DLC post-launch. That means once you finish the game, that's it. No PVP, no special events, nothing.

Even Destiny does stuff to reward it's players and allows you to utilize it in pvp.

This won't be an SJW game, it'll be a shit game. That's overhyped and overrated. Even fucking No Man's Sky has been getting frequent updates and even is now getting a multiplayer mode.
