I recently set up a private Wrath server on my own machine for just myself…It's pretty fun. From just before the world went to shit due to cata, weapon skills were removed, and talent trees were gay-ified. Also, nights are actually dark. The only thing I miss is AoE looting.

Champions Online Launch: When you first spawn in as your custom character coming into Millennium City under attack from an alien invasion and find out it was caused by one of the greatest villains' minions in preparation for his return. There you find out there are simultaneous attacks, one in the Nevada desert where they used to test nukes and now contains the world's version of Hulk (except evil) code named Project Greenskin which is being overrun by irradiates. You have to find the source and stop it from getting out of control. Alternatively, you can go to the Canada wastes where a mysterious blizzard has taken down all communications and you have to find the source of the problems before Project Hammerhead is wiped out. Once you make your choice between these two places, theres no going back and develops your character's interactions with NPC's. But once you complete them and get to level 15 you can go to Millenium City and it feels like not only have you earned it, but your hero made a real difference.
Champions Online Current: Champion's Ravenwood Academy, universe equivalent to Xavier Institute, now just handles every single superhero and not just mutants because reasons and now has a place in Millennium City where it's used to advertise vehicles. The Millennium City Crisis is just a simulation now, you don't get the Key to the City anymore, you get a shitty badge you'll never wear. Nothing of what you've done matters because now you're just dumped in Millennium City. You can go do both Desert and Canada crisis set pieces any time you want except it doesn't matter now, you can just do both of them, NPC won't comment on your achievement there anymore. Or you can just skip them and go straight to post-crisis versions of the maps because fuck it.

I remember playing through that with a party of friends when it was still a very grindy game doing every side quest we could find, meeting up in town before going off to quest, meeting other players and interacting with them, spamming the dance emote. At the time I thought it looked great too since I was playing it on a laptop.
I went back to try and play it many times to get that same feeling again, even getting other people to play it just for them to drop out about half way through, was there when /v/ had a guild on it too and then that shut down.
EU servers got (((p2w))) and then US servers had connection issues and then the chat vulnerability.
Not reinstalled since.
