I've seen this shit trashed on a daily basis, and to be frank, I didn't get hooked to the idea of "you die in the game, you die for real" because I think it makes the idea of the world being a "game" useless, and it just returns to your usual fantasy manga, except with people talking about status effects on weapons.

I think it's because it's just about an ordinary person people can relate to who is sent into an unfamiliar world. The concept itself is okay, but the execution is more than enough poor, because they always make the MC overpowered and without personal quirks straight at the beginning instead of the end game, not to mention it's almost always a fucking lanky jap teen who's the MC, so when you read one, you read them all. Frustrating.
I might have started (and then stopped entirely) to read 2-3 isekais, and I only found one that was just half bad instead of complete shit, because the MC wasn't OP straight at the first-second chapter and sometimes gets bamboozled, and he only got OP not because fate decided that he would be OP, but because of his knowledge from the world before, that he used to get even with most opponents Granted, it was gun knowledge, and I wished he's start from the very beginning crafting flintlocks and shit instead of going straight with a S&W M10 and an AK using "magical metal", but still, there was an attempt, I guess.
