So now that the dust has settled over the G/S '97 Spaceworld leaks, is any one else a little disappointed, ultimately? It was fun seeing unused Pokemon designs, yet…
While I think each of the actual designs for Cleffa, Noctowl, Heracross, Delibird, Murkrow, Elekid, Remoraid and Octillery are decent or even good(In Heracross and Octillery's cases) now that I know these exist I'm disappointed they weren't used.
They're much better and similar enough that they could have swapped the design and the Pokemon would be essentially the same.
If you could replace 5 Pokemon, including their evolutions/baby forms with the leaked beta versions, which would you pick? Personally Murkrow looks like a fucking god with the witch hat, Cleffa actually looks like an alien from the moon, Elekid looks cute and interesting, Noctowl looks more menacing and streamlined, and Heracross looks downright menacing with its mask, so those are what I would replace.

The noctowl one would've been a great second stage with Noktowl as the third. Cleffa and Elekid look like shit. Murkrow's could've been an alternate form, a baby pre-evo or a gender difference. Delibird actually looking like Santa Claus is an improvement. Remoraid and Octillery look more like weapons which is good. And it looks like Heracross was supposed to be an evolved form of Pinsir? Other than that I would've loved to have seen the other unused babies and especially the unused Farfetch'd evo. So many good baby mon and evos for Gen 1 mon wasted. I also like how Leafeon had roots for feet. Among other things.

Really, my biggest reaction to seeing some of the Pokemon that were cut and haven't been reused is that I hate Stantler more. It's not creative (It's a fucking deer!), interesting (It's a fucking deer!), useful (early game stats, not obtainable till latter. no unique abilities), yet it was added after this beta despite clearly better options. The twin ghost thing, the anchor shark (which is a perfect pun in Nipponese and there "anchorage" is a pretty cool pun.) or the zombie panda would all have been much better.
Given where you first find Stantler, right before a ghost gym that needed more ghosts, the zombie panda would have fit in perfectly.

Maybe, but that's way too exclusive. Look at Megas and Z-Moves.
Megas are like a 4th evolution in some cases, but it was disliked because it was exclusive to a very small handful of pokemon. Z-Moves are like a 5th move, either an extra boost or a nuke button that everyone can use.
Plenty of items are already like 2nd abilities, now we need a 3rd-type item. We have multiple moves that can alter the target's type already, so the games can handle triple or even quadruple typing as it is.

There is no defensive equivalent of STAB, there is no STDB to make it so having more types widens defensive options. The mere existence of STAB only existing on the offensive side of the spectrum makes it so that the more types a pokemon has, the more coverage it can hit with, and can hit with very very hard. It would push the entire meta into an even more hyper offensive focus.

Greninja is water/dark, which gives it 5 weaknesses to common types, how does that stop him? Landorus-t has a 4x ice weakness and it's destroying OU. Ferrothorn has a 4x weakness. It turns out that the defensive bonuses these types have vastly outweights a weakness to a single type. Pinsir-mega is 4x weak to rock. Scizor/mega is 4x weak to fire. Tyranitar is 4x weak to fighting. Swampert-mega is 4x weak to grass, pelliper is 4x weak to electric. Magnezone and heat tranny is 4x weak to ground. Kartana 31 base SpD and a 4x weakness to fire. It means nothing.
A bunch of resistances and a single 4x or 8x weakness is a buff

I know Gen 1 has been disassembled, and I'm pretty sure Gen 2 has been too, so how hard can it be to disassemble a game that's in between the two of them.
