Why are UFO/Alien easter eggs always the absolute best kind of easter eggs? They're always the most fun to hunt for, especially in games with big maps where there's a lot of places they could be hidden in. Stuff like hidden UFOs, off-limit Area 51/Site 4-esque locations and references, secret government equipment and weapons that you can use, actual aliens, etc. that you can find in the most remote places of the map/level are always intriguing. Even if they're just there for shits and giggles, the feeling of mystery and curiosity that comes with extraterrestrial stuff that's clearly out of place, especially in games that never even hint at their existence, makes it all the more enjoyable. It gets even better when they become an active part of the game once found.

Unlike other kinds of easter eggs, the sole fact that they're often hidden in such a secretive manner that you're really not supposed to find them so easily is what puts them above all the others. Sure some might like the usual big foot, ghosts, hidden boss, pop culture reference easter egg, but nothing beats a good old well-hidden flying saucer crash site.

X-Files and Art Bell were hugely culturally relevant in the 90s, which is why there are so many flying saucer/ayylmao easter eggs.

True, but I find that they're still around even today. I suppose they're still well liked.

I don't have GTA V but I like its easter eggs, especially the underwater UFO, but I'm a bit concerned. It got a lot of people interested in going around the map hunting for clues. I hope they don't end up overdoing the easter egg.

Do you know what's better than easter eggs? Easter eggs that are part of an ARG of some kind.

Easter eggs that eventually become part of the game (like in mortal kombat) is pretty nice, shows the devs care.

What's interesting is that including aliens as an easter egg should, strictly speaking, mean that you're indirectly including a whole new world with its own civilizations, struggles, and gameplay mechanics as an easter egg. It's all just white space as far as what's actually implemented in your game goes, but that's still a lot of stuff you've suddenly just included in your game by way of that white space.

Exactly. I forgot to make that point. The insinuation that alien civilizations exist in the game's canon just by adding an easter egg with this theme adds a whole new layer of fascination on it that can be expanded upon.
