>The information we collect may include personal information such as your first and/or last name, e-mail address, phone number, photo, mailing address, geolocation or payment information. In addition, we may collect your age, gender, date of birth, hardware configuration, console ID, software products played, survey data, purchases, IP address, and the systems you have played on. We may combine the information with your personal information and across other computers or devices you may use.

Take-Two Interactive purchased KSP in May of last year. For any fags that use Steam and have other games from TTI installed on their system: It is advised that at minimum you check the EULA for those games. I'd recommend an outright purge.

The game was spyware from day zero.

The new EU laws demand they disclose what information they are collecting and how often.

I think it's just boilerplate lifted from GTAV that did all these things. There's nowhere in the game itself that lets them collect any of that shit.

Yea, the consensus seems to be that if the choice is "accept our terms or fuck off", then that's not GDPR compliant. You either have to completely stop offering your service to people in the EU, or you have to give them the option to opt out of data collection (beyond what's necessary).

Telling the users that they can opt out by not using the service will not fly. Claiming that the botnet is necessary because it pays for the servers will not fly either.

I was thinking they'd try to push the edutainment angle and sell it to schools. They probably have a decent lobbyist team or could put one together for this purpose. Or maybe it's a tax break thing, like Microsoft buying Mojang. They'll try to squeeze some more money out of this with DLC but that's not the reason they bought it.

>>14879359

Again, since nobody seems to be listening, this is the standard EULA they use for all their games and doesn't actually reflect the software capabilities of KSP itself. It uses the same exact verbage as their standard privacy policy: https://www.take2games.com/privacy/

I hate defending this shit because it's a terrible business practice, but there is no possible way this game is getting all this data about you. Something is not spyware because it can spy on you, it's spyware if it does spy on you. You should purchase this game either way, but you can rest assured that the pirated copies should be safe.

If you want to look at what's sent in KSP, someone on their forums has an example from his own computer. (Note that Redshell is a separate thing, apparently added by Take Two, but appears to be like the Unity analytics but more minimal.)

thank god i didnt play/buy that shit.

bf5c2f No.14879592

4948c5 No.14879829

I wrote about this on my website here:

https://spyware.neocities.org/articles/ksp.html

The goal of the website is to catalog spyware programs and rate them based on how much they violate your privacy.

d2c9a1 No.14879866

>>14879829

Why did you bother linking these sources if you completely ignored what they said? And if you are going by EULA alone, why don't you have a write-up for every other Take-Two game?

dd600b No.14879903

I don't understand. I thought they already did that and the only thing the EULA change does was force them to admit it.

4948c5 No.14879949

>>14879866

I don't know what other games they make. I Just wanted to write about this game. I didn't ignore what the sources said.

d2c9a1 No.14880116

>>14879949

>I didn't ignore what the sources said.

According to your website:

> KSP collects or attempts to collect the following information about it's users[1]:

>>First and/or last name

>>E-mail address

>>Phone number

>>Photo

>>Mailing address

>>Geolocation (physical location)

>>Payment information

>>Age

>>Gender

>>Date of birth

>>Zip code

>>Hardware configuration

>>Console ID

>>Software products played

>>Purchases

>>IP address

>>Systems you have played on

>>Other Information from integrated services

>>Other Information from social media

And that's just the beginning. Your source for this information is the EULA. However, the game's EULA, a boilerplate legal document used across all Take Two games, only states their right to collect these data. This is equivalent to saying that since an American has the right to bear arms, every last one of them is factually proven to be armed. While it may be assumed that it is possible, it is far from proof of reality.

With your other source, the forum post I pointed out, it was demonstrated that it only collects the following information:

>Anonymized user ID

>Game version

>Operating system

>Window resolution

>Whether or not the game is modded

>How fast the game loads

>The local time at which each stage of the game was loaded

You might be wondering, "why bother with these privileges if the game doesn't collect this info?" That's because this applies to more than the game itself. It also applies to other services they offer:

>Personal information is information that identifies you and that may be used to contact you online or offline. The Company collects personal information from you on a voluntary basis. When you submit personal information to the Company, it will usually take the form of:

>>Registration for Online Services, websites, jobs, products, contests, and special events;

>>Subscribing to newsletters or alerts;

>>Posting in or commenting on our message boards, forums, news blogs, chat rooms, or other Online Services;

>>Purchasing a product or services through our online stores;

>>Purchasing downloadable content, virtual items, or virtual currency for use with our software and/or Online Services;

>>Using "tell a friend," "email this page," or other E-Card features;

>>Requesting technical support;

>>Downloading demos, programs, or other software;

>>Participating in polls, surveys, and questionnaires; or

>>Otherwise through use of our software, including console products, mobile products, and personal computer products, and through the use of our online products or Online Services where personal information is required for use and/or participation.

Some of these services are required to know personal details like names, addresses, sex, et cetera. How are you going to apply for a job anonymously? How are you going to subscribe to a newsletter if they don't know your e-mail address?

Again, it hurts me to have to demonstrate this over and over again because I hate analytics and Take Two with a passion. However, I feel that if I do not defend it here, we will never be able to discuss this game on /v/ ever again without a thousand retards pushing FUD and destroying the thread. I'm about two seconds from installing Wireshark myself and demonstrating this.

>never be able to discuss this game on /v/ ever again

/v/ is a board for video games, not malware.

If a program reserves the right to collect all of this information, and is closed source, then we can only assume that it does this. You can't just assume that it doesn't do this, unless you actually check it with wireshark like you said, and I don't have KSP downloaded to check (it costs a bit of money to get the botnet version).

If you buy a drink that has a notice attached to it that the maker of the drink reserves the right to have put ten fluid drams of sarin into your drink, would you still drink it? Lets say that you don't have any testing equipment because it costs a lot of money.

But I get your point, so maybe this is a better rephrasing:

"KSP collects or attempts to collect or reserves the right to collect "

The point of the article is to catalog all of the information that the program could possibly collect, it doesn't matter if this is required for the service or not. If they wanted to say that they don't collect your personal info unless you apply for a job, then they could write a separate privacy policy for people applying for a job. Since it's all lumped together it can only be assumed that it applies to everybody.

Dual purpose, you collect data to sell it and to control people. So they'll sell shit like your phone number to spammers who collect data through bot calling, etc. Information trade is a black business.

The original is straight up cancer, holy god. MacFags actually believe their computers are foolproof despite the anti-repair culture of Apple, despite the dogshit chinese-grade build quality, despite your harddrive being literally soldered to the fucking motherboard.

My impression is that if the game has internet access not legally owning it doesn't matter. I don't see how bypassing a cd key would disable any kind of .net, unity or the developers own brand of telemetry. I'm happy to be proven wrong but I don't think pirating it means shit when it comes to your data.

Not trying to justify it, cause it's shitty that they're reserving the right to across all their games, but this really feels like it's being blown out of proportion right now. Unless anyone can provide any actual proof that they're collecting my photo, among other things.

I'm going to take a huge guess here based on how this sort of shit has gone down previously in other markets. Browser extentions and smartphone apps.

Frequently they will ask for extremely invasive permission sets and explain it away as something that was "unavoidable" due to how permissions are granted.

Rarely is that ever actually true anymore because those permissions have been split off specifically because of those edge cases but people don't ever think to fact check more than once

They'll wait a few month before some massive update that includes the ability to harvest that specific information using those permissions they got a few months before.

Nobody notices because there was no change.

That is the issue, if they're working it into their ToS/privacy policy now they plan to be able to do so "eventually".
