Gonna go with the Driver series.
Driver 1
>absolutely cool 70s setting
>funk soundtrack
>day/night cycle and you can choose whether to drive at day or at night
>realistic muscle car handling
>damage modelling
>impressive AI for it's era
>cars based on real muscle cars
>levels based on classic patrician choice 70s police crime / poliziotteschi movies
>still runs on 64 bit windows perfectly, albeit without the music
>requires a lot of skill to play
<shitty damage system due to technical constraints of being made in 1999
<cops ram you instead of trying to spin you out of control
<requires A LOT of skill and patience to play
Driving around in SF is my favorite.
Driver 2
>basically Driver 1 with bigger world and more balanced difficulty
>can get in/out of any car like GTA
>even better soundtrack and atmosphere
<is only on PS1
<horrible framerate due to PS1's inadequate hardware
<worse graphics than Driver 1
Driv3r
>day/night cycle
>impressively realistic car handling and damage modelling
>great soundtrack
>great looking cutscenes and cinematography
>three cities around the world: miami, nice, and istanbul, with their own selection of cars
<buggy and very difficult missions, but for driving around purposes it should be perfectly okay, the missions themselves aren't bad at all though, just really really really fucking hard
>graphics sometimes look janky and unfinished, this game was prematurely released
Driver Parallel Lines
>unironically one of the best GTA clones ever made
>great looking and unique art direction
>still keeping the 70's atmosphere, only there's a more blaxploitation/cheesy B-movie feel to this one
>can travel between the 70's and the 2000's, each era has their own different looks, cars, and music selection
<would be a perfect game if they didn't dumb down the car handling
<can't play your own music, but that's fine to me coz it may potentially ruin the atmosphere
Driver San Francisco
>pretty impressive graphics for it's time, not Crysis level but the city looks beautiful and the cars are somewhat a kind of photorealistic
>can move from one car to another car swiftly anytime anywhere because you're literally a ghost
>can do really sick things inside and outside missions using this sickeningly innovative ability, it's seriously a fucking great all decade GOTY deserving feature that isn't found in any other driving game whatsoever
>pretty great selection of licensed car, both old and new
>lots of mods that add new cars
>bonus missions are homages to classic police movies and even blues brothers
>first person view feels very good
<car handling isn't terrible, but still watered down and boring compared to the original Driver trilogy
<not much atmosphere and unique feel compared to the previous games
<can't play your own music, now this really is a nuisance this time around
