I've never liked Dark Souls because the port is horrendous and requires a controller, this game is basically a clone and it's so faithful that it is a shitty port with clunky controls and UI clearly not designed for PC as well. The art style is similarly shitty and derivative, with bland colours and cliche bosses and enemies. That said, it's still relatively playable since it's hard to fuck up 2D combat and they follow the Dark Souls formula well enough so the combat is relatively skill bases and enjoyable.
For anons that have played it, what are the best builds and strats? Currently I'm thinking of Will/Str build with a halberd and I follow Devara.

You should try dishwasher samurai if you like their games. It got ported to pc recently I think, and I really enjoyed it on the xbox. Reminds me of a 2D devil may cry made in flash.

Two handed swords are king and their upgrade, greatscissors, fuck everything up. Heavy armors are rarely worth the trouble.
Also you might want to think of S&S less as a dark souls clone than as a metroidvania with dark souls combat.

Keyboard plus mouse works perfectly well for platforming and combat in the game. The problem is that in their cashgrab they couldn't implement some minor tweaks to make the game more playable for normal PC input. The Syrim-tier UI is cancer, the FPS is locked at 60, and you can't aim ranged weapons unless you enable an obnoxious mouse cursor on screen all the time.

if you want broken get flame barrage and lightning barrage and swap between using them to counter the overload mechanic (something unbalanced magic or whatever youll see it).
they do ridiculous dmg and you can permanently bombard all the enemies with it. get some magic refill items, they are very cheap and invest in the magic tree.

Greatshields are fucking busted, since facing doesn't matter, it's piss-easy to get shields that block everything but lightning, and only a single boss actually has a grab attack. Nothing in the game is going to do enough damage to get through your stamina bar either, even when you fight 2-3 man boss teams. Pair it with greatswords or one-handed maces and casually walk through everything except 2 areas and one boss.
