Microsoft doesn't really give a fuck. That's what's wrong. And its mostly because they literally don't need to give a fuck. The Xbone probably costs a small fraction to produce vs what Microsoft gets back from its consumer base of drones paying for their services every month. Microsoft was ALWAYS a services company. That's why they never gave a fuck about people pirating Windows (with the exception of people who openly distribute unlicensed copies but that's a different animal) fuck they gave out their OS' for free to consumers.
Most of Microsofts revenue comes from selling OEM and business licenses for their products, selling hosting space on DA CLOUD, and selling entertainment subscriptions with Xbox. That's their business, services, not products

This is incorrect. Microsoft cares. It's just that most people are under the assumption that the Xbox One isn't a game console. It is not. It is a portal to the "Microsoft Ecosystem" - a support pillar to a much broader corporate initiative.
Microsoft doesn't seem competetive to Sony or Nintendo, because they are not competing with Sony or Nintendo. Microsoft is trying to compete with Apple and Google - both companies who develop and maintain competing Operating Systems which are far more popular for mass-market generalized computing (iOS and Android). If Microsoft loses the console race, it'll hurt financially - sure, but it's not a fatal blow to them by any means. If Microsoft loses the OS race - it guts the core of their business.
Microsoft is willing to throw the Xbox under the bus, if it means saving - or at least extending - the life of their operating systems. The end-goal for Microsoft has always been to have a set-top multimedia box in every living room running a variant of windows. The only reason Microsoft is even in the game business is because they thought that Sony was trying to position the PS2 as a home computer for the masses (which they were, but in a half-assed way only for the purposes of import tax evasion). It's always been about the Windows OS - and if it weren't for Seamus Blackly and a few of the Xbox engineers who turned it into a game console behind Bill's back and without his permission - it would have died over a decade ago as a WebTV 2.0 box. Just like it's dying now as a "TV, TV, TV, Sports, Sports, TV, Call of Duty" box.

Market share doesn't even tell the whole story, its not indicative of a total install base. There's more Android devices because a single person tends to have more than one, usually a tablet and sometimes a phone+backup whereas the same person may only have a single PC in their home
And Microsoft doesn't seem to give a fuck about their core OS' anymore and just see Windows as a vehicle to deliver their services like Xbox. As their pajeet CEO said, Microsoft needs to maintain permanence. They're a services company first and foremost. That's why they're working with Linux for shit like Azure Cloud, its about delivering services.
