Stilted, their attempt to bring out Starcraft Ghost failed and by the time the company was able to buy its freedom, its strength had left it and it was taken over by the kind of socially active douchebags who apply to popular game companies at their zenith. Mostly desperate fans and your typical feminist parasites.

For years the company has coasted by with Pixars sloppy seconds exploiting smart art design to allow potatoes to play their games and a rabid fanbase that refused to let themselves see what was happening. The company was only barely able to put out new content and bare bones games that are frankly insulting to any objective measurement. Instead it thrived on being popular, the Kardashians of Game Development. The sjw parasite is at this point the only thing keeping the company alive, but the rot has finally begun to set. The company is finally grinding its bloated corpse to a halt while it desperately tries to cover up its gaping losses with positive articles about diversity and wokeness.

When Phinney left after SC, Metzen was solely responsible for Brood War. Brood War was a steaming pile of shit, story-wise.

What /v/ never talks about is Blizzards anti-fun campaign. I closely followed World of Warcraft from Mists of Pandaria onward. What I noticed was a regression in the amount of fun happening. As time passed, more fun was taken out of the game. They pruned classes, they pruned raids, they pruned difficulties and they pruned options. Holiday items can't be transmogged, certain pets were nerfed to the point where you couldn't have them out, classes were butchered. The game was turned into not just a casual game, but an unfun and boring game. It's safe and dry.

This continued with Overwatch. Overwatch is a game with legitimately no risks. It's as casual as it gets and easy to play. Diablo 3 is the same way. Blizzard games are, above all, soulless and unfun. Fun was taken out. Instead, Blizzard expects you to find fun in the social experience. The issue with that is, Blizzard games cultivated an absolute shit playerbase. When you have a company based around safe games, the communities around those games become safespaces for the most degenerate of people. Women, gays, trannies, all sorts of things start to make up the populations for these games. Absolute lowest common denominator normalfags. There are a lot of factors at work here, I don't think diversity can be blamed for the floundering popularity of Blizzard titles. I was also a hardcore fan, even competing on the Korean ladders in BroodWar. I was really turned off by the overly-centralized, networked nature of the SC2 game client (though I know this has become pretty standard). They also release updates that make it impossible to watch your old replays (my BroodWar replays are precious to me, and I still watched them sometimes up until a few years ago).

The number one thing that killed SC2: they keep trying to "rebalance" the game, thereby preventing an organic meta from developing. It's like they have this objective to keep winrates 33%-33%-33% split between Terran, Protoss, and Zerg. But that's not what happened in BroodWar; there were clear periods of dominance until a player or build emerged from the unwashed masses which could defeat the current "imba" techniques. They also completely shit the bed by tripling the starting worker count, entirely removing the first phase of the game, and preventing the creative early game harass that made Lim Yo Hwan, the first professional SC gamer, so famous. It's just TURBO mode now, and games are typically 8 minutes long. It's low attention span popcorn. Also the constantly shifting unit attributes and abilities render online guides and build orders obsolete, raising the barrier of entry to new players. I can't stress enough how terrible SC2 is compared to BroodWar, and I think RTS was Blizz's bread and butter. By the way, it's a bunch of balding soyboy white faggots doing this shit.

Anyway, OW isn't strictly better than TF2, or at least it wasn't when TF2 was still new. TF2 has degraded over time thanks to the obnoxious amount of stupid items you can equip shitting up the game and turning every class into a multirole fuck fest. It all took an extreme fucking nosedive when the Demoman update came out that added the stupid shield and axe. Which was dumb because Demoman has always been easy as fuck to play, and now they added another role and made it just as easy to play. If you can play TF2 with all vanilla items, it's still an enjoyable game. The thing is, OW limits characters to their predefined abilities, so a modicum of actual teamwork is required to succeed because you can't just play any class and do whatever you fucking want. That and the extremely marketable character designs (cute girls) is what propelled them to success, I think.

Valve are insanely incompetent. I can't even play TF2 these days without just getting incredibly pissed off at the stupid decisions the company has made with the game over the years. It's one thing to make controversial buffs and nerfs but Valve often do things that indicate that they are lacking in even basic common sense.

As much as it might trigger /v/ to say this Blizzard have been a hell of a lot more competent with their handling of Overwatch. It helps that for them any new content is built around new heroes instead of new weapons, meaning they have to put in a lot more effort and therefore thought into whatever they implement. As opposed to Valve who would very frequently just throw out some half-assed weapon models, giving it some poorly thought out stats and then throw in into the clutter.

Was going to post this. There is no stock on the market that I'm more interested in shorting. This is going to crash like a rock in the coming years. Blizzard can't make good games anymore.
