With paper mario on one hand I'm glad nintendo finally understood no one fucking liked sticker star and color splash because it didn't have any of the charm or gameplay mechanics of the original and TTYD, but on the other keeping the character limitations from those two games just killed off whatever excitement I had for the series. Don't care for all of the activision bullshit, nor sega's shit. Metroid 4 prime though could be nice but we'll have to see the trailer first. Assuming this leak does is real, then I'd honestly say that this would be worse than the 2015 E3. The only truly positive announcement from this I can take away is the Prime 4 gameplay reveal, but I'm honestly not even sure if it would be a good game at all. Crash and Spyro possibly being in Smash is interesting, but in the end its just going to be Activision shilling and it doesn't make up for the fact that smash would get another goddamn Mario character. However Smash 5 hype has felt completely artificial to me and if it does somehow release on time in September then it seems that it could possibly have a bigger focus on DLC regarding characters. Overall I still can't understand why Nintendo dick sucking grew exponentially after the bullshit they pulled leading up to its reveal.

3DS, particularly in Pre-amiibo games, was enjoyable. While it didn't live all the way up to the DS' legacy (Which is a high legacy that let's be honest, would take a miracle to surpass since the DS is one of the greatest libraries out there), I still think the 3DS had a lot of interesting innovations system wise and fun games on it. I still think the 3D is legitimately cool and I hate that I seem to be the only person in the world who thinks that.
If you can get a hacked 3DS I do highly recommend it, it's plenty of fun.

Don't forget Link, a character that's been in every single smash game and only just now got a game where he can jump if you exclude back flips, sidesteps, and the cape item and the Villager, who is from a game where you don't even fight. Captain Toad's defining characteristic is that he can't jump. I'm sure you can make a moveset where he can still get airborne without actually "jumping" if you can get the Villager to stand toe to toe with Ganondorf, I just find Captain Toad to be a very unlikely character for smash. Of course, there's no evidence that this is false, other than perhaps the fact that Nintendo said they're only showing games coming out in 2018, and the gamefaqsfag mentioned MP4 for 2019; either way, not really evidence one way or the other.
For my own predictions, I think they'll shelf Paper Mario, deciding that appeasing fans is impossible (after all, the reactions to the last three games were poor, so clearly fans are sick of the series.) I think out of the three, Captain Toad is the one with most personality (and of course Smash is a big advertisement for all their series, so advertising CT would make sense).
Toadsworth doesn't really do much in the games he appears in. I suppose you could give him a moveset based on his cane, but if that's what you want, I think Cranky Kong based on his Freeze Dong appearance would be more likely.
And while Toad is a character as well as a species, sort of like Yoshi, the appearance of Toad in Peach's moveset kinda makes it unlikely that just a generic toad would become a character. And while you could absolutely give Toad a Mario 2-themed moveset, Captain Toad already has plenty references TO Mario 2, so once again, kind of a point against that.

Alternatively, Captain Toad may be based on Toads in general, primarily pulling from Captain Toad, but other playable Toads filling in where C.Toad has nothing (such as jumping).
