>Has there ever been a decent open world adventure game?
>like Zelda
Only three of the Zelda game are "open-world". The remaining 14 games in the series are linear in their progression.
>Most open world games tend to be RPGs but with arbitrary leveling that gates off areas.
What about Batman: Arkham, Spider-Man, Metroid, Assassin's Creed, Deadly Premonition, numerous Lego games since '97 , nuStrider, every GTA/Driver and their "clones"…wait, what is the difference between "sandbox" games and "open-world" games?
>The Witcher 3 was terrible for this, because the leveling didn't change anything but the amount of damage dealt/receivedThe Witcher 3 was terrible for this, because the leveling didn't change anything but the amount of damage dealt/received, which simply cordoned off some areas because they were fucking tedious rather than containing enemies that were an actual threat.
That's…every RPG.
>Aside from BOTW I can't think of an open-world game that doesn't use a leveling system
To continue on my list from earlier: Sonic '06/Adventure/Unleashed (On 360/PS3 for the last one), No More Heroes, Red Steel 2, the Tony Hawk and Skate series, Monster Hunter, Shovel Knight, Homefront: The Revolution, Lost Planet 3, Shenmue, Yakuza, Castlevania, Gravity Rush, inFamous, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.…question from earlier still applies.
