In OP's defense, I was actually just thinking about DKC series as a whole. I just bought Tropical Freeze for the Wii U for $25 and 100%'d it. Amazing game, the whole soundtrack is remixed from older songs, but in high quality and refitted to match the theme.

Anyways, I don't think there has been a bad DKC game. There's the main 3 for the SNES. DK64 was completely acceptable, but a long grindy slog that killed collectathons, but in and of itself, was perfectly serviceable. The spinoff games for the GB/x systems were fine, too.

because pic related surpassed the original, while the third installment killed the series for good because japs always fuck up in their series.

I don't really see anyone talk about any Pixel games but Cave Story, but pretty much all of his games are fantastic. Don't get me wrong, Cave Story is a fantastic game and the biggest one Pixel ever made, but everything he's worked on has been great and Kero Blaster is a fantastic game. I'd like to hear peoples thoughts on it if they played it.

The best part of tropical freeze was the K- levels, but once you get to the third world the game truly reveals its true colors and shows off how great of a game it really is. I think Retro went in a bit hard on making those first two worlds a bit too accessible.

One of the twelve people who actually played Kero Blaster here. It was fantastic :^). Nice diffuclty without being frustrating, interesting weapon upgrades, and with the overtime NG+ there's quite a bit of content.

That and it's just plain cute.

Every single thing this game did well was done better in the first game and every fuckup was exacerbated in the followup. It's pretty much the textbook definition of "middle of the road".

dkc3 is way better than people give it credit for. sure, kiddy is annoying and the theming is cartoony but the level design is fantastic. every new level has a new core gimmick
